Default ETS Top Mount Intercoolers at EdgeAutosport

Extreme Turbo Systems is very much defined by their name. ETS specializes in all things turbocharged including exhaust manifolds, downpipes, intercoolers, exhaust systems, intake systems, and full turbo kits. Everything they do screams quality and high performance.

The ETS Top Mount Intercooler for the Mazdaspeed 3 and 6 is no different than the rest of their high quality/high performance lineup.

The first thing that comes to mind when I see this intercooler in person is beautiful. Beautiful welds, beautiful fit, and beautiful finish.

This direct bolt on, easy to install intercooler is second to none and with this simple modification you can expect to see some very significant gains in power and torque. It is made with a bar and plate core that is 3.25" thick and will cool the air coming from your stock or upgraded turbo much more efficiently than the factory intercooler or even some lesser quality FMIC's that are on the market.

For an extra $100 you can have your ETS Intercooler anodized in one of many colors, including Black, Blue, Red, and Gold. Never before have form and function come together so perfectly!

ETS TMIC 06-07 MS6 07-09 MS3 - $565
ETS TMIC 10-13 MS3 - $565

Especially when it doesn't offer significantly better performance than the other TMICs out there.

My only issue is, as you can see in 1 of the pictures. Their idea on how to mount the shroud to the IC.

Example: You bring your car in for service and they need to remove your TMIC, they un-screw the top screws and what happens? They blindly drop a nut/washer into the abyss of the engine bay. A friend of mine had mentioned the idea of just JB Welding or some other means of just keeping the nut/washer combo stuck to the bottom of the shroud. If anyone has other ideas feel free to voice them!

Agreed, all it takes to fix that is to tack the nut to the flange. I'm running a Gen1 ETS on my Gen2 and I used a bolt going from the bottom into a coupling and used loctite to help lock it in place and then I can just attach the mount from he top with another bolt.

The ETS unit looks a lot better in terms of aesthetics and quality than every other TMIC readily available. Is it worth the extra $$$, you'll have to decide because hind sight is always 20/20.

Here's the solution if you let others wrench on your car....tamper proof hardware.

Heck you think it's hard managing bolts that are exposed, taking mine off requires hand contortions as I adapted my stock cover to the ETS to cover the ugliness of the fuel pump etc.

i literally never remove the shroud from the intercooler, because it's not blocking any of the mounting hardware.

So are there any discounts on this TMIC, like a sale or something?

I diid noot, I wish I did hehe. Bought the ETS here and the previous owner had made that shroud to cover the snake nest, and he just wrapped it in carbon fiber vinyl.

For anyone that has issues with their painted/anodized shroud having marks from the rubber ducting. This stands up pretty well. Doesn't peel from engine heat either like I thought might happen.

Well we have some good looking ETS setups getting posted up! So, including the guys that have already posted, if you want an Edge sticker (or if even if you don't), just post up a picture of your ETS TMIC installed in here and I'll send you one

We have a Gen 1 TMIC left over from our last stocking order. But more will be coming soon. These are the best TMIC's on the market.

Ive got the ETS TMIC and I LOVE IT. I bought it second hand (originally bought from Edge lol) and with 20k miles on it. It still looks brand new and the workmanship is incredible.

If you're looking for a TMIC there's no better way to go than ETS & Edge.

Powder coating is thick and will likely hurt the cooling ability of the tmic.

Anodizing actually aids in heat dissipation and can actually improve cooling ability.

Powder coating the shroud won't hurt but you don't want to powder the core or tanks for reasons mentioned above (heat retention).

Are you wanting to powder the shroud for aesthetic reasons or to prevent the rub marks from the shroud?

I'm not sure anodizing aids in the cooling abilities but it will help prevent corrosion to the aluminum.

pretty much for both those reasons, I don't like excessive chrome/polish in an engine bay and I've seen anodizing fade over time (fwiw cheap ebay stub antennae). a professional anodizing job probably wouldn't fade, especially sitting under the hood.

It difficult to see in my pic but I applied 3M anti-chafe tape to the top side if the shroud to prevent the shroud from getting scratched up from the seal. It can usually be found at body shops and I'm sure it can be had on eBay because its the same type material as head and hood masks.

A professional anodizing job would do the trick if you don't purchase one already dipped, just be aware if you purchase a IC used that has helicoils they will have to be removed before dipping.

Yeah you don't have to worry about powder-coating the shroud. That is definitely okay to do and won't effect performance at all. Like stated above, just don't coat the core!

Here's my TR6. I'm quite familiar with anodize and yes, improved heat dissipation can improve cooling ability.

Also, UV rays kill the dye which is why anodize will fade over time. Most dyes are organic and will do this no matter what. The anodize is still there and will still have corrosion protection, but it will not look pretty. If It's under the hood or behind the grille the color will last much much longer.

There Is architectural anodizing which is sealed using a different method with co-Deposits a different type of metal to prevent the fade. You often see this done on window frames and such.

I have seen aforementioned TR6 and it looks a lot better than that picture leads you to believe.
