Default Manley Pistons, arrived with not much fanfare

Manley Platinum Series Pistons Mazdaspeed 3 2007-2013 / Mazdaspeed 6 2006-2007

Any info on what they are like with oil squirter clearance etc, can't find any info if these have been tested on our platform..Seen Bryce has a set ready for war on his FB. Interested between any advantages with these v CPE stage 2 and Speed performance custom pistons.

We were waiting till they have been ran for a bit on a few cars before we start slinging them. Don't want to get a ton out there and find out that there is an oil squirter issue (though I'm pretty sure there won't be).

As far as comparisons are concerned, they have the Gen 2 style dish like the cp-e pistons and they are about $100 less expensive.

I believe these will be an excellent option for anyone looking to build their motor for mild power or big power.

Interesting. I think these are promising. Manley makes awesome stuff. I had manley pistons in my mustang build and not a single problem. Looks like these will put a dent into wiseco piston sales if they work out well.

Can anyone post better pictures of the piston skirts and maybe measure the distance from the top of the piston to the bottom of the skirt at the middle and edge?

I have a set of cp-e stage 2 pistons I can measure to compare for oil squirter clearance.

If I end up needing to go oversized I think I would sell the cp-e pistons and give these a shot.

I have an engine build coming up in a little under a year so if these check out i will most likely be buying them.

Default Manley Pistons, arrived with not much fanfare

I spent some good time on the phone with Manley direct before ordering these Pistons as well as time talking with Justin.

These are Manley's highest model import Pistons. The lightweight platinum series. Manley rates them in stock fashion to about 800 crank before needing to upgrade the wrist pins. Unfortunately Manley doesn't sell those direct because of our awkward stock size wrist pin, they were king enough to inform me of a company they trust and recommended for upgraded pins. With the material and wall diameter I chose Manley confidently said those Pistons will take a 1000whp. The side skirts are very very beefy which is what you want. They use a full steel ring set which is ideal for big power. @atvfreek; might be able to chime in a little more as I know he's got a set as well for a build.

Pic below is my upgraded H13 Tool Steel .260" wall wrist pin vs the .150" wall chromoly stock pin.

i assume that means that anyone who isnt going for 800HP will be fine with the wrist pins they come with, but i think we are all still wanting to see if these resolve the silly oil squirter clearance issue

1-2-1 will fix the exhaust valve cutouts.

That is correct. Our stock cams actually don't require valve relief pockets on the exhaust side. Even some mild after market cams like the CS spec cams don't require valve relief pockets.

I normally use cp-e pistons in all the builds I do, as I have had excellent success with them. However they have been on back order forever so I couldn't wait any longer. After talking with Alan at edge he talked about these and I'm willing to give them a shot. These are similar to the cp- and pu pistons, have oil squirter cutouts (I will confirm they clear after xmas) and they have long skirts which will help reduce piston slap heard on cold start. I have two motors going together as we speak with these, and then they will also go into Bryce's motor.

Standard wiseco's don't either. No issues unless of course you over rev to the moon and float some valves

As far as comparisons are concerned, they have the Gen 2 style dish like the cp-e pistons and they are about $100 less expensive.

I believe these will be an excellent option for anyone looking to build their motor for mild power or big power.
Do they also make them in 40 over?

They are only made in 87.5mm and 88mm. I would not bore a stock sleeve over 88mm

Everybody is afraid to go first, but Manley's rep for all the other platforms is pretty shiny.

Yeah I don't imagine we'll have any problems with these pistons...

Speedperformance have done a few engines with them and haven't had a problem.Looks like CPE missed out on some business with slow restocking of their pistons

So no reason not to feel confident with the wrist pins the come with for a 500whp (tops) build?
