I'm running (over 2 years & 20k miles) a highly bolted car with my own ECU tune first via Xede piggyback EMS and more recently via ATR ECU reflash and the OEM BPV (still) works perfectly at 20+psi. I've run several aftermarket BPVs and NONE work as well as the stock BPV. In fact, I think the cheezy aftermarket BPVs may be a contributor to early turbo seal failures(smoking...) due to the shock of the pressure spikes at throttle close when shifting at high boost levels. The big pressure hit bounces the compressor wheel against the thrust bearing which MAY contribute to the oil leakage into the intake manifold/intercooler, etc.

Even worse if your aftermarket valve is not serviced regularly and properly. I for one, have experienced the negative effects of a poorly lubricated Forge valve. Stumble logged, appears timing related. Stock is best. It works, it is reliable and it doesn't need servicing. It either works, or it is broken and should be replaced with another, it is that simple.

| Not Ranked : 0 score TurboSmart Compact Dual Port. I don't have any hard evidence that suggest it's a lot better than the stock bpv but in my opinion it performs a little better and definitely sounds / looks better. When I say it performs better I’m mostly referring to how quickly it recovers / holds boost. Response and drivability is somewhat improved. Is it worth 300+ bucks? Probably not unless your stocker is fucked and or you place a strong value on looks / sound. |

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Thanks everyone. I think i might stick with my stock BPV and put the money to a different part. Any suggestions? I have a CPE CAI, CPE MM, TWM SS, CPE TIP. I thought about removing one of my resonators, i heard other people doing it and it sounds a lot better |

| Not Ranked : 0 score i have had both the forge and hks. i don't get why people like the forge, it is annoying as hell and made very cheaply. If you like metal clanging sounds then this is the one for you. The HKS i had when i had a FMIC, SRI, TBE, AP and i found it held boost much better than the stock BPV did. for an OEM car i agree the best is the one from the factory, even though the HKS in recirc is a nice touch from a sound perspective. when you are running more boost pressure because of less loss in the FMIC, and more from tunning the OEM in most cases doesn't seem to hold it well and then an aftermarket one makes sense. I would only consider a recirc valve, not a blow off or even a hybrid of both which is why i liked the hks unit. here is a video of it so you get an idea of what it sounded like with the SRI (which has a more distinct sound than the cai i had before it)

| Not Ranked : 0 score I have the Turbo XS Hybrid BPV and i love it! It performs well, and sounds mean. It has a deeper tone, not to loud and not to quiet. I haven't tried any other BPV or BOV on this car so im not gonna say its the best one out there, but i think its great imo. I have tried others on different cars and some of them were nasty sounding and way to loud. And make sure you get a BPV, either full recirclated or hybrid. BOV vent to atmosphere will make your car run like shit. Hope my oppinion helps ya out a little!

| Not Ranked : 0 score I'm back on the stock BPV for shits and giggles. Personally, I like it better than the Forge Gen 1 after living with the ching ching for ver a year now. The stock BPV also seems to be smoother between shifts and seems to hold my stage 2 boost just fine. Maybe I'll go back to an aftermarket valve one day, but personally I think your $150 would be better spent on a test pipe or intake FIRST and worry about replacing the OE BPV after you start pushing most boost.

A STOCK MS3 will peak to ~17.5-18 PSI A STOCK MS3 should hold ~13.5 psi (1-4th gear) A STOCK MS3 should hold ~14.5-15psi (5-6h gear) P.S. These values may vary up to +/- 1.5 PSI depending on conditions. An intake will increase the boost roughly 1.5 -2PSI over stock Stock RIM offset is: 52.5 Lug pattern ? I'm sure someone knows this off the top of their heads?? | |

| Not Ranked : 0 score IMO everyone will have a different opinion. id say the SU 50/50 is probably one of the better ones but no one can really say for sure.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Why? Replacing it is not likely to improve performance.

| Not Ranked : 0 score I truly believe the aftermarket BOV/BPV world has flourished off peoples' need to hear the "ppffffftttttttttttt" sound everytime they shift (or the "ching" if you have the Forge) and not from any hard evidence that they increase performance or enhance drivability. For a stock valve, the OE unit does a good job and I know it's not my imagination that it is a lot smooth to drive than my 1st Gen Forge valve. The Forge had way too much flutter and made the car jerky sometimes. Granted, I may have had it tuned wrong with (blue spring with 1 shim for 18-19psi), but I'm happy using the stock valve again. The stock valves are cheap the replace too.

| Not Ranked : 0 score By the way, I'm not disputing the quality of the OEM BPV on those it works for, but on the CX-7 many owners have found the stock BPV leaks boost (they used Dashawks to show the improvement with an aftermarket BPV). Maybe it's just a few bad apples, but I know with mine I noticed a decent improvement in boost when I switched to the Forge... |

| Not Ranked : 0 score my stock BOV sucked. that bitch started to leak so i got an HKS and now i dont worry about it. if mine wasn't leaking i would have probably stayed with the stock one. i don't care about the sound at all.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Don't know how a BPV would blow into pieces at 22 psi. But I can see how a K04 turbo would blow into pieces if run every day at 22 psi. Little 5mm inconel coated center shaft overheats, pushing 1600+ degrees, shaft sags, internal clearance is lost and blades crash into housing. I could see the compressor side blade pieces even get sucked into the intake and zoom, zoom, boom. Must be an exaggeration, or just a matter of time.
