Default GI: Custom MS6 Short Shift Plate

so after a good interest in the plate i made for my regular 3, i have decided to go ahead and make a short shift plate for the MS6. I already have the TWM which i will be basing my design off of (rather then the JBarone design).

here is my original thread i made for the plate i made for my 3:

DIY: Short Throw Shifter for mazda 3

the pricing for this plate will be as follows:

$60 for the plate and all hardware needed.
$10 extra if you want it powder coated (will be done by dustin btw so know the money is going to a good cause!!!)

the plate will be professionally CNC'd and then welded together by dustin.

here are the people that have already purchased!

Here is my first impression review. Install only took 15 minutes! There is a noticeable reduction in throw and shifter play/slop. Feels very solid and tight! I'd highly recommend this product

I already have the TWM one, is this going to be the same reduction in throw or is it going to be more?

the twm also requires drilling the same hole.........

its one small hole in the side of the shifter that you will never see once its installed. you dont even need to take the shifter out of the console to drill either.

and considering my plate is less than HALF the price of TWM, i would say a tiny hole is hardly something to make a stink about.

oh def man, had you mad this before I bought mine forever ago I would have bought it in a heart beat. It just a piece of metal for gods sake, I got mine used so I didn't pay much more than what you're charging.

It's stupid easy to install once you look at things and this is a good price and decent reduction in throw. Once you get it on you'll be so suprised at how long the stock throw really is.

after i took off my jbarone ssp, i thought my shifter was loose/broken from how far it was moving. if you ever experienced the fun that is the shift cable popping/breaking off, youll know what i mean.

i dunno whats involved with the SSP but for this one you simply bolt it to the shifter using the stock hole on the bottom and then you use the predrilled hole in the plate to guide a 1/4" drill bit through the stock shifter. then slide the included bolt and nut through and your all done. all you need to remove is the cup holders and the next section with the boot which both pop out. instructions will be included but they are the same as the TWM ones essentially.

The whole reason I started making these was because I hated how hard it was to shift when I was the jbarone ssp on my 3. This plate makes it infinately easier

So wait, this is installed inside the cabin, like where the TWM installs? I don't have any problems with effort with my Jbarone, but I also have a heavy shift knob. If it goes in the same place as the TWM, couldn't they be used in conjunction?

So I'm sure you guys have addressed all the issues that people were running into with the first two versions of the TWM's, but are you going to be offering any warranty with these? What happens when a shift cable breaks?

I'm just curious if its worth the savings for no warranty, etc. Not trying to bash the idea or anything, because I do love cheap parts.

which issues are these? ive had my TWM for almost 3 years without a single problem.

and theres no way anyones shifter cable broke because of a STS. the mounting location difference is no wheres near far enough away to cause any problems.

oh yea.. my shift cable broke from installing the JB ssp.. but that was from my ratchet extension breaking the plastic cable guide when installing the bracket spacers... shortcutting and not popping off the cable caused me 6 months of headache

this is a pm correspondence between me and jb.. simple question about the shift cable location

also is this a reason for increased effort, loading the cable against the plastic guide? (other than reduced mech advantage)

is there a way to rotate the L bracket slightly counter clockwise to get the cable out straight?

I don't remember what exactly the issues were with the TWM, but I remember them having to go through 2 more revisions to get it "working", which is why I stayed away from the TWM in the first place.

the only thing i can remember about it is that there was 3 different versions of the stock shifter. you can see in my pict theres a little divot just before that vertical screw. the TWM has a hole in the plate to basically alllow for that divot and i dont think every car even had that divot and some diddent have a pre drilled hole in the bottom of the shifter either. so it was prob hard for them to make something all while considering every revision mazda did.

Hm. Well you can throw me on the interested list as this has undoubtedly peaked my interest. As for a warranty/disclaimer...am I on my own completely with this?

warranty ill back 100% as long as you dont fuck it up yourself. if something happens like the weld breaks or it snaps or the ball becomes loose ill 100% warranty it.

if your being an idiot and fuck up the piece while your installing it i obviously wont take it back.

im also not responsible for anything that happens to your car as a result of using this short throw shifter.

i completely missed adding my point... that person that broke their shift cable with the ssp probably did the same thing.

when i approached jb, immediately accepted this as my own fault and just informed him of the possible pitfall

for all we know this guy couldve just been angry to cover up his mistake...

And my point was that Jamie still paid for him to get a new shift cable installed.

The TWM doesn't work the RHD cars (not without pretty much cutting it in half among other mods), any chance this will.

Can provide shifter assembly pics if required
