I updated the spreadsheet. Published as a web page at this link, but you can still edit it with the link above. Added a few rows down to 450g/s for the big dogs, but you will still have to change the pipe diameter to whatever your MAF dia is, and the effective dia to whatever size honeycomb you use.

so if im reading this sheet correctly, for 400 g/s, i will need approx. 4.5" between honeycomb and maf?

That would be best. Though I would measure it from the front edge of the honeycomb, but it wont be a disaster if you can only reasonably get 3.5" in front of the MAF. Like AZ said, the equation we are using is a "rule of thumb" equation so it is a conservative ballpark figure.

Heres a few pics of my 3.5" blowthrough setup with a honeycomb air straightener. Fuel trims are perfect at idle and cruise. Wot afrs are almost perfect. Just have a small spot when I hit 3 volts I need to lean out a bit.

where did you get your honeycomb? can you tell us a little more about the hole diameter/width of the honeycomb and how far away from the MAF you placed it?

I got it from treadstone, its a little over 3.5" in diameter making it fit nice and tight inside my maf housing. Its probably 2-3" away from the actual sensor. I used some epoxy to hold it in but I wish I would have used jb weld instead

PRELIMINARY RESULTS!!!!!

ok so i finally got around to installing this puppy today. i went with the aluminum one because i diddent have anything to cut the plastic one nicely.

i first put the MAF housing over this and traced a circle inside using a sharpie. then i used an air cutoff wheel which worked surprisingly well.

rich gave me the idea to wrap it in a layer of electrical tape to make sure the sides did not flake any metal pieces off.

fitment was really tight and i diddent need to use anything to keep it in place.

i took some idle logs and things looked a little smoother but not much different. cruising and normal driving is dramatically improved. no more backfiring, WOT pulls are smooth as hell and over all driveability is just better. i did notice my AFR's came down about 1/2 a point but im also pegging my FP sensor so i will know later this week if its really the honeycomb doing it.

i also need to note that i have a CEL for IAT circuit high which im not sure about. nothing seems to be out of the ordinary on logs or anything and i have another maf i can try out to see if thats it.

First mod on a 2nd gen DSM was pull 1 honeycomb and throw it in the trash. Check idle, if fine, pull 2nd honeycomb, leaving only the one in front of the MAF. If still idles ok, go haul ass. Here we are 15 years later adding in honeycombs. FML.

I've got one of these on that way. Hopefully it'll smooth out my erratic MAF readings between 4.0v ~ 4.12v.

Perhaps try putting one in front of the compressor? Easier for the impeller to grab the air if its straight. A bit like stator blade effect on jet engines.

hmmm couldnt you epoxy it so you would have to worry about it getting sucked in and or the edges ripping off?

cant you shape the honey comb edge to a taper so it suppresses in and dont fully push it in leave a very very small lip not compressed in so it literally cannot go in. thats what im gonna try to do.

I could machine a cage to hold the honeycomb and have spokes radiating from the center to support it.

i used a cutoff wheel to trim the edges on mine and i think just the way i was holding it made the outside cuts somewhat tapered like your describing. when i pushed it into the pipe it def took some serious force.

what of honeycombs in other places?

as was said earlier bends cause issues....im thinking after your FMIC before you enter the throttle body....would removing the eddies from this flow help at all? or is it really only beneficial at the maf because we are actually trying to read something from that flow?

also....is the fact that there are o2 sensor issues after a cat removal have anything to do with the cat being of a honey comb design? similar to the flow needing to be of a specific nature like for the maf?

no the o2 sensor is supposed to see a change in the gas characteristics not flow

Hmm, I have a Sure aeros coming, I might put one of these infront of the air straightener.

Just got mine installed, cold idle now shows a steady 4.43~4.5g/s, without it was 4~6g/s.. Seems promising.

Unfortunately while I was doing the install, I noticed I have a slight exhaust leak at the turbo flange, and my damn oil return is seeping oil from the upper fittings. Looks like I'll be pulling the turbo again in the near future.

This is exactly what we are using to make my blow through set up to work.

Seems like a few of you are using this in blow through, is it not recommended for pull through?

Took some logs last night, I'm now .3~.6 rich just about everywhere above 3.0v. My weird region around 4.0v seems to behave better, and I see much less reversion as the maf voltage rises. I like the new behavior, but it sucks to lose 40-50gs resolution off the top to accommodate the airflow straightener.

I also actually saw a little KR, which is funny considering I was much richer than normal for the entire pull...

Mines in pull through right now, but will soon switch to blow through..

Also, in case anyone didn't notice you can request your part cut to any size you want(at no charge). I had them cut mine to 3.25", and all I had to do when I got it was pick off any little slivers I saw and install it..

Why did it lose so much g/s up top?

I'm still running the small filter CP-E sends with the big maf housing, I think that coupled with the maf straightener is creating significant vacuum in the compressor at WOT lowering efficiency as the vacuum rises... I will rectify this problem when I go blow through...will be running a full 4" intake with this filter.

I haven't finished the map revisions yet, but it looks like it will be closer to 20~30g/s...so even on my current setup it's not that big of a restriction..
