Default PTP SST?

I'm trying to find out more information about this turbo. Is anyone on here running one? Wondering how it'll do on a stock motor. Can it be safely tuned with an accessport? What kind of numbers are people seeing from this turbo?

Tried searching and nothing comes up....

Here's some technical specs on the turbo if no one knows about it:

PT-Performance.com

"Super Stock Turbo". Anyone running one?

"sst turbo" in quotation marks. It comes up with a bunch of crap if you dont use the quotes.

^^^ Well, I'm not built and I'm not planning on building the motor (Unless it blows and I have to). My seal is leaking and I hate replacing when I can upgrade.... Just looking for a slightly better turbo.

GT2871r... more expensive but a much better designed turbo than a reworked stocker... if you buy an ss it will just have the same problem again after a period of time, I havent heard of any GT's running around with leaking seals to date, mine included

I've seen those PTP turbo's grenade on a speed6 before. The compressor wheel spun down the DP and the compressor side disappeared to nothingness. That was at 20lbs. I really don't think the exhaust flange for the k04 on our car is really worth much.

The same turbo on an audi can push 24 psi efficiently, ours are about 19. I'm just throwing that out there. If you go with a BT that doesn't mean u have to push the same psi, if you look at the volume of air instead of the psi you'll see that something like a gt28 running 14lbs is gunna be similar in volume of air to our cheesy ko4 running 18lbs.

I'll leave it at that, but I've seen nothing but positive running a BT setup at lower psi levels and making the same if not more power.

BT are the way to go if u have time and money but if u really are just looking for a direct swap then the sst is the way to go. The sst is also efficiant up to 26 psi and i had a 24 psi tune with mine.

I do remember seeing pics of a reworked K04 killing itself. I think it was on 6 club. The turbine wheel came off the shaft, shed its blades and went for a ride in the downpipe.

I also remember that he got it replaced under warranty.

the turbo itself is more expensive, but that leads to a lot of other expenses to consider also.

manifold
DP
inlet

wastegate

how much more is all that?

I agree, The additional expenses get a little silly. W/ the 28 u have to run a EWG, right? If u dont u get crazy boost creep
Then u've got to have alot of custom work done to make a safe setup.

Right now for me It make more sense to go w/ and SST(Or similiar) and make 330-340whp for a fraction of the cost of making 350-380whp with GT28.

And since I already have a Mani(No EWG) and DP, this is the route I will be going

Dont get me wrong If I had access to unlimited funds and time I would go bigger, and all out, but I dont, And I dont have the skillz to do work like that myself. I go back and fourth on my goals for this car and think my mind is set........ I think

Or you can have the best of both worlds with BNR's Stage III rebuild. 2871 CHRA and upgraded turbo inlet housing that utilizes all stock mounting points and flanges. You also get to keep your IWG and not go EWG like the GTs force you to do.

GT's will get leaky seals if you don't use restrictors in them.....

I bet if u do the bnoon restrictor bolt on a new stock turbo it won't leak from the seals....

Don't the ATP's get boost creep? I havent to many good thinga about that turbo. Not to mention going BT is useless unless you get cp-e wall flash, which means getting a SB if you dont have one.

That's why I'm doing what I'm doing. See above (BNR)

The ATP IWG is garbage and creeps terribly.

No, it's a modified KO4 that utilizes a 2871 CHRA and upgraded inlet housing.

Basically a hybrid between the stock K04 and a GT2871 turbo using the best from each. The site hasn't been updated yet, but I already put a deposit on my Stage III and should get it in the next month or two. I can't wait!

POOR RELIABILITY??? Considering there are cummins guys that run these at 30+ psi for 100s of thousands of miles with only rebuilds (which are easy as pie) i think you may be throwing that statement out there without much knowlege of the turbo itself...and btw ive spent ohhh around 1200 or less on the setup so far and ive got everything but a wastegate ready to go...this includes dp mani intake etc..

Interesting, although the Hs aren't built to withstand the kind of heat we build on gasoline engines. I wish you the best man, but there's a reason why the rebuilds are so cheap.

Again a satment without research.

DSM have been beating the crap out of these things for a while now, and the turbo keeps coming back for more.

EDIT: search around and you'll find them on Nissans, hondas, and skylines.

I stand corrected guys... I still don't like the "Custom" route, but if it works for you guys then rock n roll.

I would go here Turbo Repair and get one of Bryans hybrid turbos. I have a stage 3 on the way to me. I'm going to try it before the 3071 Garrette ATP version. Bryan guarantess bolt-on and uses the CHRA from the famous "disco potoato" which is a bullet-proof plain bearing housing with a larger shaft. Nothing but good results so far. There is a thread over on 6club for more details.

Are u doing all the work urself ? cuz if u are u have more experince than I do. I know just enough to get me trouble.........

1200 is an awesome # for the setup that u've got for sure, but how long have u been working on it. This car isnt my Project car its my DD, and while I do have another car to drive when working on bigger projects( 2-3 Days), I dont want my car out of commission for a long time

FW, I cnat wait to see ur setup when ur done

Ive been talking Bryan via email and he said that he could only do a stg 2 w/ a GT2860 not the 2871. Stg3 is not available yet. I would like to see the results from urs aswell. Since I just picked up a stocker and havnt decided what to do w/ it yet
