Default Stock turbo boost capabilities

What is the most boost pressure that the stock turbo's can handle before they start to fail/blowup?

Can a reworked turbo handle more?

What is the stock boost pressure of the stock turbo?

How much hp/torque gain is there 1,2,3 psi gain in boost pressure?

I think the sensor is capped out at 22.8 PSI, I've ran this before.

A reworked turbo can handle more boost more efficently.

Stock boost is 15.6 PSI

it depends on the mods you have, there is no set PSI gain.

The stock turbo is pretty limited. You can turn it up a bit but it is already getting hotter and hotter as you go. Everyone seems to run about 18psi. The turbo is too small for this motor.

it's also a factor of just how reworked you go - there are some folks out there now doing completely different guts to the k04 housings (for a price in between what you pay for pg's and a whole new garrett gt series) - with a total rebuild like that you may actually enter the situation where you can make more hp with less amounts of boost because the air is being moved and shaped in a whole new way

Probably greater than 30psi, provided that there is enough restriction.

Probably greater than 40psi, provided that there is enough restriction.

15psi

For what size pipe diameter, air temp, humidity, intercooler efficiency, a/f ratio, compression ratio, intercooler pressure drop, exhaust manifold to dp pressure differential, and rpm? Actually the answer is not much hp is gained for the wear and tear added. The engine produces around 120hp n/a at a absolute pressure of 14.7psi, 120/14.7= ~8 * 3psi = 24 crank hp * .8 correction factor for drivetrain loss = ~20whp for 3psi. Assuming all the above factors stay the same, which they dont.

Try this link, PT-Performance.com
they claim efficiency to 24psi.

i have a reworked PG turbo I run at 20-21psi with no problems for 17k miles.
Never dynoed it but seat on the pants says 20 pulls harder than 18psi.

All of the reworked stockers are of the same idea. Efficient to 25.x psi, larger wheel, stock housing, P&P, 270* bearing instead of a 90*.

They want $1100 for this turbo and it still has the shity Ko4 oil seals and not a bearing type.If I was going to spend $1100 I would go for a GT28 or GT30 and have good seals.

actually i talked to bryan at bnr that is building these - it will remain a journal bearing and not a ball bearing if that's what you mean but he will be using a totally different type of seal then what the stock setup or pg uses - so even if someone didn't get the pcv fix that's coming (which is the real source of the oil leaking problem) they could still use this turbo and hopefully not leak - all the other internal parts will be upgraded - not just the compressor wheel - as this price point is really in between pg's rework and a gt2871 (don't forget your inlet doesn't fit a gt2817) you are really getting what you are paying for - i am looking forward to the results of the first few folks who get one of these as he plans to do even bigger power later on - vw's use and build the k series turbos with great results - the big reason a lot of folks bailed on them in the mazda community is b/c of the leaking oil seal issue
