Default Stock turbo flange to T3/T4

so im wondering if anyone can point me in the rite direction. im trying to find a way to adapt the stock manifold to accept a t3 flange, while not messing up the down pipe angle to much. I can weld and have no problem fabing somthing up, just interested to see if anyone else has done somthing similar. or if its even possible. im doing this on a buget and dont want to buy a manifold rite now. ive been looking for pictures but can even find the manifold to turbo flange so it probally means im gona have to make one. any help would be great.

turbo is a T3 50 trim .63ar fully rebuilt internaly gated with ATP ultimate internal gate adpter to 3" v-band, and turbosmart internal wastegate. turbo housing is Port Polished. turbo should be good for 350-400hp. but we will see lol.

Thanks

I will try revive the old files... I have them on my laptop at work. Also I should note that using a mitsu / subaru turbo is the best for this. The water ports are identical placement and thread. The oil drain is identical and the oil feed is the same size with just a different thread pitch so only needs a new bolt.

Fab a custom downpipe and you are in business.

Mazdaspeed to t3. Now i remember why i never made these. It requires the turbo compressor side to be rotated away from the block 7 degrees and the hole does not line up well.

The hole on the bottom left is shared by both the turbo and manifold using a bolt. The smaller 3 holes are for m8 x 1.25 studs on the bottom side to bolt to the t3. The remaining big 3 holes are threaded for m10x1.25 studs on the top and bolt to the manifold. The turbine housing on your t3 should be port matched to this flange with some carbide bits and sand paper rolls.

Also stock mazdaspeed gaskets won't work as the port is oversized. Use Stove and gasket cement.

Is your car a daily? You are going to need to be down as this is going to take more than one flange adapter to get perfect(unless you get lucky). The easiest way to go about this is buy a cheap manifold with a stock mzr flange and cut it off and weld a t3 back in its place.

Couldn't agree more, although the op says he doesn't have the funds for a manifold.

I think the big challenge is going to be all the oil and coolant lines.

IMO, time is money. You could buy said manifold for 450-500 shipped(new) then convert to a t3.

Around here it would cost about 60 to 80 bucks to machine one flange. If you get lucky you will have it drivable by the 3 flange. so around 250 buck(give or take) is what you will have in machine work then the time it has taken to pull the manifold, turbo, dp, and coolant lines.

Well I happend to find these cast top mount manifolds for extremely cheap. So I will probably got that route. ther should be no probs running my turbo as a top mount rite? I know the lines and shit are different but the turbo should work top mounted or traditionally mounted. They also make a cast turbo that fits your subaru ihi flange u should check it out. I know it's fleabay shit but a couple people have them on here with no complaints besides a little porting of the runners.

Cost of a manifold, custom intake, custom downpipe, custom lines... It adds up fast.

I would agree that just about any manifold should be better than an adapter flange. Especially how crappy the stock manifold flows.

Also do you already have supporting mods for big turbo. Boost controller(manual or 3 port electric) Cobb ap, injector seals, fuel pump internals, and a bigger maf?

Why not sell that turbo and buy a atp bolt on turbo?????? if you going for cheap. Hell even that turbo in the for sale section, stock manifold(ewg), turbo etc.. for 1000 shipped.

Ap, internals, meth, e85, freek tune, dp, test pipe, CS tip/Sri. I would need a good intercooler setup as well. At this point I'm having second thoughts lol maybe for now get a wilwood bbk some springs, sway bar, whiteline anti lift kit lol until I can afford to do it the rite way and not have to cheap out on shit

I saw on your other thread that you were looking at the possibility of being able to Mounting an IHI or a Mitsubishi turbo. that would interest me more as like you said it would be pretty much a direct swap over with a few odd and ends. I'm sure there's a few little things that you have to button up and buy parts for but that would be a better alternative than trying to go to top mount on a budget

Next spring I am hoping to have direct bolt on Mitsu based turbos for the mazdaspeed.

Td05 20g and td06 20g hopefully for sale at a $900 price point.

Lets just say I had a td06 20g Subaru turbo with the 3 bolt ihi flange, correct downpipe and manifold. Would it be a almost direct swap.

The placement would be different with the cast ebay manifold. The ic/piping and intake would be off, so would the oil / coolant lines need to be modified. But the oil/coolant fitting are all the same fittings as the k04 except the thread pitch on the oil feed.

It has never been done before that I know of but it is possible.
