(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Yes I know, insanely long title. I have some some searching, read a few threads and some googling. My battery is an AGM, I plan to put it in the trunk passenger side. I have 3 questions: 1. Has anyone had any problems grounding to chassis in the trunk versus running a return ground line? I see the battery grounds to chassis anyways and don't see this being a problem. 2. I plan to take my old battery positive cable and take off the terminal clamp, I'm going to then clean up the wire and feed it into a 0/2 single ring eye terminal and fill it 1/2 way with solder. After I feed my positive cable through the cabin to this location I want to take my incoming positive wire and double it up to the ring eye terminal I just described and run a bolt through it with a nut and then electrical tape it for insulation. Does anyone see a problem with this configuration? 3. I've seen some people use battery boxes, and some use a metal bracket for securing the battery. I was wondering if anyone else has some insight on the best means of securing the battery in the trunk? I appreciate all your responses and input!

| Not Ranked : 0 score This is something I have been considering doing, although I haven't done a bunch of research on it yet. Please do some research on your battery. There are AGM batteries that still do have/require a vent. I have even seem Optima's outgas before when they were cooked too long, even though they don't have a vent. For #1 . You shouldn't have a problem grounding the battery right to the chassis, as long as the connection is of good quality and clean. You may want to consider running a separate ground to the engine, or at least beef up the grounds for the engine to chassis. #2 . I personally wouldn't even use the factory battery cable at all. You're going to have to run a new cable from the battery in the back all the way to the firewall. Why make a hoaky connection that will run the risk of corroding, arcing, and/or creating higher resistance. Don't take the semi easier way out. Just run a brand new cable from the battery into the engine bay to your distribution point. Do it once and do it right. Just be sure to insulate the hole in the fire wall/insulate the wire where it goes through. You don't want the wire to chafe. #3 . Honestly, this is really just up to you. It really just depends on how well you want to hide the battery and how clean you want it to look. If you are going for "because racecar" then just mount a bracket set up and bolt her down. If you want something clean, and you want a conversation starter, go with a nice box to house the battery in. Also, it doesn't happen hardly at all, but if your battery did pop for whatever reason, it might be nice to have it in a box so it doesn't get all over the place. With that being said, I still say its personal preference and totally up to you. Hope this helps. |
