95 Flyin Miata thread

Well, I picked up the replacement for my speed over the weekend. It's a 1995 Miata with pretty much everything I could want on it. 1.8L crate motor with 14,000 miles, Flyin Miata hydra kit with a road course (conservative) dyno tune (11psi 220rwhp), FM Radiator and Fans, FM stage 2 clutch, light flywheel, Racing Beat exhaust, Team Dynamics 15x7 wheels, BFG Rival 205/50's, Fat cat motorsports shocks / adj. springs / bumpstops, Racing beat sway bar, FM frame rail braces, SS brake lines, Goodwin racing Wilwood 4 wheel BBK, roll bar with harness bracket, TDR racing seat/harness, and a hardtop.

Couldn't be happier with the car, the handling is out of this world, and it has pretty damn good power for a 2500lb car. FM recommends staying at / below the 265rwhp # for the stock bottom end, so I'll likely be getting a slightly more aggressive tune for the street, 250ish to the wheels.

Yes sir. Flew down and drove it back up. Got 29mpg doing 80 the whole way

Small world haha. Yea I've wanted a turbo miata for a while and once the speed sold I couldn't find a reason to pass on this one. Most are built by some kid off ebay. This one was built by a 65 year old engineer with deep pockets = no brainer.

I'd say it's tuned speed3 quick, not quite e85 quick, but in the corners it's not even a comparison.

I know -- it's exactly what I've been looking for too; you couldn't build it for what he was asking for it. I found a couple of videos of him running it at Atlanta and a recent one at VIR (not a stalker). Have you checked out the E-85 fuel conversion kit at FM; that thing would be a real rocket on full E! I'm glad it went to a good home -- I'll be on the look out for updates.

I believe it has everything needed for E85...it's nowhere near tapped out at 220hp, but I want to keep it reliable. The turbo on there can run 15psi all day and put it near 280rwhp, but it would only be a matter of time before zzb on stock rods.

However...forged rods are like $400 for the 1.8L, so I'll go that route eventually

Might look for a set of fatter tires for the street. For auto X I think these rivals have plenty of grip (plus they're cheap), gotta get the driver mod first

We got tired of our naturally aspirated NB and are picking up a gtx2867 built motor NB this week. Woot woot.
When I mentioned our new NB to an autox buddy in Atlanta he asked if it was this one. Apparently you picked up a ride with a great reputation.

Yea George is a driving instructor down there and one of the nicest guys I've met. Very upfront about the car, and seems to have taken great care of it.

I've added a catch can to the pcv side and vta'd the driver side vent on the cc (with a filter). The home depot air compressor occ works great for this little 1.8L

Trying to tune / log / just work with this Hydra Nemesis ECU has made me see how amazing and easy the AP and ATR really are...

Edit: Simple green followed by Iron-X made short work of the crazy amount of brake dust on the TD wheels, I definitely recommend it.

Congrats on your purchase, I love the BRG, I'm debating a paint or dip in that color for my car.


Thankfully not much to update, other than driving the cars and loving it. The tune could use some adjustments in the cold start / idle area, runs a touch lean but I haven't had any time to mess with it yet. I love the MBC, I turn it down to around 6-8psi for autox to get traction, then just click it back up for the street.

Mufflers are over rated. Not even that loud thanks to the turbo / hiflow cat / res. Sounds great and saved ~20lbs

Took the hard top off for the first time. Much more chassis flex which sucks, but it looks badass. Quick interior shot with my @maisonvi; knob as well

The chassis flex is pretty noticeable without the hardtop on, and even more-so when you pull the rollbar.

Nice to hear that you noticed it. I mentioned my car felt stiffer when I did the roll bar, same when I did the hardtop and I often mention the car feels different with a passenger, and a lot of people laugh at me like I'm just saying that to try to impress them and I can't really tell a difference. Lol. I think they are the same people who I'll tell, your car sure sounds like it has an exhaust leak, or your cars clutch is totally slipping, and they just laugh and say "no way, it don't notice anything different, it's been like this since I bought it" ha. I think some of us are just more in tune with cars.

So true.
My times are always quicker with a passenger, usually my wife/ codriver. More so in the Miata than in the ms3. My times around the track prove it consistently. Most are confused and figure it would slow me down , added weight and all ( no honey you're not fat). But I always just feel its more balanced. To each his own I guess.

Yea it was very noticeable. Of course I have the brace kit for the hard top. So it's 8 bolts at 4 point on the chassis. No denying that it helps alot haha.

What do you mean brace kit? You mean just the two extra brackets near the seatbelt towers instead of just the rear frankenstein bolts and front window bolts?

I've had 3 miatas and the second one I owned had the side brackets that the latch attaches to (the bottom half) so I stole them for future use. When I bought my hardtop it came with the side brackets... but I haven't taken the time to cut the holes and bolt it in. Excited to see the difference in stiffness/reduction in noise.

Close but mine are literally just brackets with two more bolts on each side. Not latches

Plans for this upcoming summer / track season: 15x8 or 9's, upgrade to 225 BFG rivals, and try to figure out the slight stumble I get WOT in 4th on occasion.

Kicking off the season with a nice 2 day event at Autobahn country club. Including some night track time, very excited for that.

Phil's has them for $108 with free shipping. Can't beat that deal. I was almost set on some advanti storm's, but a few pounds a wheel isn't worth an extra $160+shipping for a weekend warrior like myself.
