(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Well long story short I found an na miata 1990 turboed with a cartech/ bell engineering setup on it running 8psi w/ about 103k miles on it. It also has a stage 2 clutch and some other accompanying mods. My plans for this car are not certain yet, at the moment I am just getting used to having such a light car that outhandles my ms3 on roads I frequently drove spirited on. I am probably going to start with coils and save money for a 1.7l build or 1.8 swap and a new rear diff. Its a 20 yr old car so I am going to take my time and make sure everything is done up to snuff. but my first check is going to a honda civic beater so I can have this car down for the build etc. pics coming soon, its raining outside right now. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Went through the same thing last couple of months, was talking with a couple of turbo miata sellers. Nearly did it, but chose to keep playing with the MS3. I decided for me, it is more fun to go fast at the track with a big hatchback FWD. Partially because there are a lot of miatas at the track, (because they are damn good at it and cheap to run) and rarely if ever do I see speed3's there. It's fun to run with fast sports cars in the speed3. Congrats, should be a blast. I might change my mind for a LS1 Miata though. FCUK! |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Depends on your use of it. LS1 swap costs more up front but is cheaper in the long run. The guys I know that run boosted miatas have an assload of problems at the track. Yes they are fast as hell when they are working right. But it takes a lot of dedicated work and MONEY to make it work well and work reliably. If you're just running on the street, then yeah turbo is the way to go for the money. At the track...not so much. Better off staying with the stock engine, low power and working on grip mods. Will spend more time on the track and less in the garage trying to figure out what broke now. As far as the weight....it's not as much as you would think. LS1 is a compact engine and all aluminum. You add a turbo system to a iron 1.8 miata engine and you get even closer to the weight of a LS1. I'm pulling this out of my ass but I'd wager it's less than 100lbs difference. Sorry for the off topic.... |

My old 1.8 BP from escort gt was sold. with 165,000 miles. Guy that bought it running 12psi stock GTX turbo. motor now has 220k. all stock internals. Suprisingly mazda 1.6 and 1.8 dohc motors were pretty strong, (something that didnt carry over to the 2.0 motors. BUT 6k, is alot for a built 1.8? stock 1.6 is good for around 250 tops on stock bottom end. roughly. | |

| Not Ranked : 0 score If you want to be in the LS vs FI 1.8 argument you need a built motor and over 300whp. 270-280 is a cake walk.... but won't give you an 11 second car like an LS will. For the record... hate LS swaps.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Bob got ya there, true, expensive build if wanting to run against a ls1. plus LS1 pretty damn light. But i have seen some V8 swapped Miatas, yeah autotragic, and the clutch pedal assembly is still there. not even a true automatic brake pedal. But Monster Miata has said, they havent busted a 1.6 rear end yet, or i think the lower cost LSd or rear end for the NA. another option KL-ZE, seen a few miatas with that, prett damn fast, I have seen escort 4 door cars, somewhere from low 13, to high 11, with just that v6 swap. but also 1.8 bp in mid to low 12. and thats FWD heavier than a miata. KL-ZE is a neat motor but the cost vs. benefit isn't there when you can just build up a 1.8. The nice thing about a ls1 swap is that 300whp is easy. 400whp is easy. You've got a lot more little things to worry about to make a 1.8bp track day reliable at these power levels. | |

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I wanted to take some good pics.. they have some good photographers in town that come to our meets and I was trying to get them to take some good pics. Also, I got to experience severe oversteer last night when i was gunning through second gear, went wot from 3k and when it hit 5k traction became an ordeal especially with the roads still slick from the rain but I didnt kill myself or anyone else but the car snapped a good 45* more than i needed for the turn. Sorry I have been so busy guys I rarely even log on lately, because I am fixing all this crap thats breaking in my house.. also after walking on my roof I realize i need a new one, fml. |
