Default How-to save your coolant line!

Myself and others included have come across a problem with the MS3 (not sure if the genpu or MS6 applies) where the coolant line gets detached from it's clip and falls down in the way of the radiator fan.
The fan slices the line open and causes coolant to spew everywhere and ruins the line.

Here's my story.
So about 4 days ago I was out gathering logs and on my way home I decided to get squirrely on the pedal leaving a stop light. When I got to the next stop I was basking in the sweet sweet smell of burning coolant, accompanied by a nice amount of white smoke.

So I pull over and pop the hood:

You can see the line in question:

I wrapped it with this, with advice from @ROKUSEK 7CM

and zip tied it in place how it currently sits while I wait for my replacement.

As far as local guys go, @paulwalll and @ROKUSEK 7CM have both had the same thing happen to them.

Also from my wtb thread found here, I quote:

Took me a minute to figure out what the hell was the matter. $45 from the stealership and needless to say that fucker is zip tied as well. I still get a whiff of coolant from the radiator being completely soaked through from time to time.... At least it's an easy fix....

Out of nowhere... white smoke from my hood.

Parked... notice coolant was low... something dripping onto undertray...

Had it towed to dealer.

Apparently it looked like someone had bumped me (the theory) and the radiator had pivotted back vertically a bit. Radiator shroud showed damage too.

coolant hose was rubbing against the belt and cut open.

The part in question is labeled #9

SOLUTION
This can all be easily avoided with ONE zip tie. Place a single zip tie where mine is located in the picture, and you will be golden. I also placed one on the passenger side clip for peace of mind.

I hope this can prevent you guys from having to deal with the hassle of finding a new line or getting raped by the stealership! Thanks for reading.

that's funny. i bought mine used 2 years ago and wondered why that line was zipped tied to the frame and why the fuck it wouldn't stay in the clip.

I had exactly the same thing happened to me. House fall of the clips and got cut by the fan.

Sucks that only the dealer is selling the house.

The cheapest one I found around Fort Lauderdale, FL was at Lou Bachrodt Mazda:
House - L33X-15-381C - $61.86.

Since my coolant leaked out completely I had to get a gallon as well. Should have got two. Apparently the factory coolant is the best option for the car.
1 gal of coolant (0000-77-508E-20) - $29.24

Zip tied the shit of the new house

this happened to me on a road, trip last the whole 18 hrs then on near the end it decided to cut and start smoking, in rush hour traffic haha. Pretty embarrassing. Got it all replaced under warranty and had to deal with the smell of burning coolant for a good year.
