Default CDFP Question

My CDFP isn't covered by your warranty since I'm not the original owner, but I have a question about disassembly. My pump is dirty on the inside and needs to be cleaned, but when I went to use an 18mm socket to remove the internals it didn't fit. So I was wondering if you could let me know the socket size needed to remove the internals.

I tried different metric sockets that I have, but I don't have a 20mm. From the looks of it, it appears to be a 20mm socket but I want to get confirmation before I order the socket (20mm isn't readily available).

How-to: Install your Autotech fuel pump internals

Says 18mm in that How to. Maybe your socket wasn't deep enough to clear the spring inside of it.

That's what I thought too after reading all the how to's, but 18mm doesn't work. I also went to the autoparts store and tried varying heights of 18mm and non worm. I then tried 13/16 by hand and it fits over but too loose for me to want to even try it. When I checked wrench sizing charts, the next step down is 20mm.

I believe cpe uses a larger nut in there pumps not 100 percent on that . The how to is for installing internals in a stock pump not a cpe pump. 20mm sounds right just get a deep socket that is 20mm all the way not one that reduced diameter to a stud size hole inside.

5doors is prolly right because it's a CPe pump which I didn't notice in your signature, do you have any measuring calipers to get an exact size on the nut because that would conclude this mystery lol.

I had a caliper, but can't recall where it is. I was using it in school last semester for my engineering design class but don't know it's whereabouts.... Lol

Sounds like something that happens to me all the time... lol.

I still can't find my work headset that I was using less than a month ago... and now I'm working on a computer and making calls so it would be perfect. Fuck murphy's law...

I don't think have a 20mm deep socket either otherwise I would just let you use it lol. I will check when I get home but as you said it's an odd size to get in a set. I know my normal set jumps from 19mm to 22mm but my other set might have it with any luck.

I'll let you know if I do.

Put 2 flat thooth pics on eather side of the nut and use a ruler to measure the nut diameter and convert to mm useing google. If u want to be anal u can subtract out the thickness of the thoothpics but u get the idea. Good luck dude.

Haha, love it. I'll see if CPE can confirm before I finish my classes today, if not I'll do that.

First time I ever did it, I forgot to compress the spring (by just pushing on it with whatever you're using, impact gun/ratchet). I thought the same thing: "The fuck? My 18mm deep well isn't deep enough?". It is a spring, and it does compress lol

Yes I admit to being a noob once upon a time.

LMAO, oh I know. I was just hoping since they won't warranty my fuel pump with their "Lifetime Warranty", that they would at least help me out by saying the nut size.

Decided to just buy a new caliper today and measured the nut. The caliper said it's 19.8mm, which means I indeed need a 20mm socket.

Thought I'd post it here since cpe is the least bit helpful and other users could potentially benefit from this.
