Default Connection Issues NOT logging

So I just had Autotech Internals installed and went to plug in my AP to monitor fuel pressure and the AP would not connect to my ECU? Never had this issue before. Unplugged the cable from the car and AP numerous times and nothing?? So lucky it was at a NATOR AZ meet and I used someone else's cable. It connected just fine so I thought no big deal I will call COBB and get them to send me a new cable because my AP is not even a month old. So they did send me a new one no trouble and received it today. So now when I plug in the AP it connects but if I move the part of the cable closest to the OBD II port on the car the AP loses connection. So I tried wiggling it where the cable connects to the AP and it stays connected just fine? But again I move it very slightly close to the OBD II connector it loses connection. Is this normal? Another bad cable? bad AP? Bad OBD II connector in the car? Please help!

Check the pins on the obdII port and make sure they are not bent. I remember edge auto sport putting up a thread talking about how cobb had a large batch of cords go bad. Might be that you got some bad luck and got screwed twice.

Ok huge thanks to @az_jayc for let try his AP and cable. Wierd shit it did the same thing so I took it to a mazda dealership and they said there is nothing wrong with the car or the OBD II connector port. WTF?!? Well I am going to send the AP back to COBB and start there.

I was having some strange issues with mine just yesterday. i went to reflash and after it said loading maps...it would go blank. So i was like WTF? Unmarried it. That worked. Went to reinstall same issue..So im like WTF IM STUCK WITH STOCK MAP!? I went back inside loaded up the map i just tweaked. Reclicked u0073 copied it. Went back to the car and it flashed just fine. Pulled codes once and it said lost comms with pcm so i almost had a heart attack.

@SofaKingAwesome why the groan?

I was Stating that a lot of people say that the OTS maps suck and that you don't feel a difference and I was stating that I could tell a huge difference.

ok sorry everyone

yes back on track I have read that this started happen more after the last firmware update on the AP. I havent had mine more than a few weeks so I didnt get to do a lot of logging. so I didnt see it lose comms during logging. It would just happen to me when monitoring Fuel pressure or even pluggin the AP to the car for the first time

I will update this thread when I hear back from COBB

Well no good news. Cobb sent the AP back saying it was a cracked grommet and fixed supposedly. But my AP is still doing the same thing. Connects then if you move the cable all so slightly or even touch the cable it is loses comms. So I called Cobb again and they insist that it is my OBD2 port on my car. OK I took it to Berge Mazda the first time Cobb said that and Berge Mazda said there was nothing wrong with the port at all. They connected their scanner wiggled the cable and even pulled on it and it was fine. So I said fine I will take the car to Cardinal Way Mazda and they had a tech plug in his scanner and every thing worked fine. he moved it around and pulled on the cable and it stayed connected. The tech said if there was anything wrong with the port it would of lost comms. He even did a visual check and said he didn't see anything wrong. He also said the AP cable was bad or the pins on the cable are bent, broken or too thin and not making contact. So I called Cobb and they said that it is not the cable because they have sent me two that did the same thing. So after arguing with 3 people they are taking it back to try to flash some ms3 with it. I hope they just send me a new one.

@David@COBB hope you guys can help me and figure it out. I will do my part just let me know.

Chances are, you are experiencing the datalogging disconnect issue that I've been trying to hunt down. I implemented a faster way of datalogging in all year models, and it seems that the timing to sync the command is finicky with the processor load on the ECU. If you can flash the car without an issue, it's not your cable.

Sorry you are experiencing it. It's one of my top priorities right now.

I am the cable lender from the OP.

If memory serves, the AP wouldn't even connect to the car for him to attempt any logging. Plug AP in, it powers up, failed to talk to ecu.

That's indicating something is wrong with the Comm lines to the ECU. If you've ruled out the cable, I'd check the OBD port, or see if the AP connects with another car.

I did try that with @az_jayc car and had the same issue. I did think it was the cable because what happened with @Enki but you guys COBB sent out another cable and it did the same thing? 2 bad cables? This is a weird issue and makes no sense.

I'm not sure if this will help you narrow down the logging issue, but there are noticeably less instances of logging errors if logs are done from the data log option vs. the live data option.

I tried this as well, however, seems to be just as apparent. I also find a loss in connection to be more evident if doing multiple logs.

I'll tell you dumbbutts exactly how i fixed this. If you own or have driven a mazdaspeed6 you know the placement is one of the worst fucking placements for an obd 2 port you can imagine.

I got tons of disconnects anytime i turned the car while logging and my leg hit it all the time.

Reach under the car and unclip the port from the plastic frame. Buy an obd2 cable splitter and ziptie that connector to the splitter tight. Get one split end and connect AP with a looong usb cable attached. Ziptie those together as well. If you have a dashhawk, do the same to the other end.

Here is the main trick: you need to secure the AP dongle either under the steering column or into the small space inside the plastic kick-covering near the AC controls. Thats where i put mine.

Trick #2. You cannot run AP and dashhawk at same time. Dashhawk is a bully and will always win logging abilities. When you want to log, slightly disconnect the port behind the DH until it turns off, then run the AP logging.

Done! Solid connection and no more crap in your way!

@David@COBB they told they would not make a better cable with longer and thicker pins like the cable I bought off ebay that works great!
