Default Flat Foot Shift Issues

When i first tuned the FFS and LC my FFS worked like a charm every time. now about a month later it is messing up every time. i get blocked then end up grinding. is this my driving style or do i just need to retune. i have the limiter set at 5900 should i drop/raise if i aim to shift at 6k????

Chris,

This sounds like you may have a synchro wear issue. Does it help if you try to slow down your shifts? Have you changed your gear oil recently?

You do know that the gear oil requires replacement at 24k mile intervals, right? Check the maint sched...

Actually, changing the gear is oil isn't on the regular maintenance schedule. Under normal driving the original gear oil should last the life of the car (normal life). Now, for guys that constantly do FFS and launching, thats a different story...

That's what I just put in for MTX fluid. Don't you have to use GL5 for the PTO and rear diff? Oh...you don't have a rear diff...ignore that part of the question.

More frequently used on intakes or tailpipes. Sometimes on stick shifters.

Oh, maybe you're looking at the Speed3 sched? For the Speed6 the trans itself isn't listed in the maint sched, only the rear differential oil and transfer case oil which are also "gear oil". It's been a while since I looked at it and the mileage is actualy 29,100. You can do whatever you want with a Speed3, but I'll just go ahead and change the trans gear oil while I'm at it.

Some have actually changed the tranny oil with KY or any "special lube" and there shifting had improved. Might be something to look at if all else fails.

Haha.. is this a cruel joke on the guy who might actually try it, or did someone actually say that? You said it van damn style serious, so just incase.. KY being mostly water would perform terribly under heat, and not last long at all leaving you with a bunch of goop after the water evaporated..

On a serious note, Redline MT-90 is the shit for your tranny.

Try setting your FFS limit down a bit. Try 5.5k. Your really close to your shift point and could be banging off of the FFS rev limit in mid gear change. making it hard for your synchros to....well sync.

I've found, with FFS, you want the tach needle to "fall" toward the starting rpm in the next gear. A setting thats to close or to far from the shift point seem to prove problematic.

I have to agree. I changed all my oils to amsoil severe gear and the car shifts felt noticeably better. The rear diff oil was black when it poured out. The other oil in the tranny and pto were clear. Whatever that was all about.

If you are going to be using FFS/LC on a regular basis, a high-quality transmission fluid is a must. If you notice that shifting is getting difficult, it's time to swap fluid at the very least. Lighweight shockproof by Redline is what we use in lots of cars. It really improves shifting feel quite dramatically. However, you do need to change it on a fairly regular basis if you are driving hard/drag racing etc.
