Revolution Performance Motorsports Revolution Performance Manufacturing (RPM) was started by three Mazda 6 enthusiasts in early 2004 under a simple premise: to develop and manufacture new products for the Mazda 6 at an affordable price. We began to realize our purpose with the short throw shifter and gas hood lifter kits for that vehicle. Since then, we have added many new aftermarket products from well-known manufacturers and continue to expand to offer products for other vehicles with the goal of having the best prices and customer service on the 'net.

Default GI: Fluidampr Harmonic Balancing Pulley for DISI MZR 2.3

Back in 2008, we successfully worked with Fluidampr to bring a pulley for the 3.0L motor used in the Mazda 6s to market. We've noticed that there seems to be some demand for one for the DISI MZR 2.3 motor used in the MS3/6 as well, and we would interested in doing this again, assuming this interest is sufficient.

The pulley will be manufactured from aluminum and anodized. Fluidampr's viscous fluid damper design keeps your rotating assembly happily balanced and reduces vibration to ensure longer engine life. Typical underdrive amount is 10%, which frees up power by sending less to the accessories, and thus, more to the wheels. The net result will be a dyno gain of 3 to 5% at the wheels across the ENTIRE power band.

So, the purpose of this thread is to determine if such demand exists. If you are truly interested and would drop $300-350 on one of these pulleys right now, please respond. If it appears that enough people are interested, we will make this happen.

Lol, @Alpha, I just thought of you when I saw this thread.

Maybe I can dig up that thread.

I think it's this one:
GI: Fluidampr TRUE Harmonic Balancing Pulley >>>

The thread that was linked in the first post was deleted, and this thread only had 6 replies, so I wasn't exactly sure what had happened at the time, but I figured it was at least worth asking again..

I'm actually not sure if anyone can view this thread or not. It was closed, for sure.

http://www.mazdaspeedforum.org/forum/foru....php?p=1386050

I'm on tapa talk, so can't really see details. But that's def the thread. I believe fluidampr eventually bailed because of the keyless crank snout on our engine.

Edit: bailed due to too few people.

No, we can't view it. It says, "Invalid Thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator."

I've talked to them and they said they bailed due to lack of interest. They won't do it unless there's like 25-50 confirmed interested.

To me, it seems like there'd easily be that many in this community alone, but we need to get them to come out of the woodwork.

Honestly, I'm interested but would need to see testing and real world results before I jumped on board.

At $300 ish I believe its a good deal. I know that there are many of us that are fully mounted that would like to do the bsd delete and are turned off of it do to the ridiculous amounts of vibrations that result from doing all 4 things. If Im not mistaken, with the use of this pulley, it would basicly act as a substitute for the deleted balance shaft making things tolerable again.
I would be interested.

Yeah, just reread the thread and there wasn't a lot of interest. Honestly, I wouldn't do it unless my engine had to come apart for other reasons. And I don't want to under drive the MS6's power steering pump - it already struggles in hard/quick transitions at autocross.

This. Any chance of a fluidampr, without making it underdrive? I'd be interested, but I don't like the idea of under-driving the accessories in a daily driven car. I think this would make a BSD much less annoying.

RPM @RPM, on a different note but still relative, I hear quite a few folks asking for your old Street and Sport Springs on the MS6. Your springs were a sweet spot for folks that didn't want to go full drop (i.e. 1.5"-2" with the other springs out there). I bet it would be worth your while to do some limited builds on both and do some group buys IMO.

I had to go the Autoexe route to get the drop to the tune of almost $600. I would have bought your street springs in a heartbeat.

The pulley is not going to replace a BSD or have the same effect as the 4 cylinder is inherently not balanced. It is meant to dampen pulses from combustion pulses minutely and the idea behind this was with cars that revved high (above stock) and had things like the oil pump driven directly on the crank.

So you're saying that if you have a BSD and install a fluidampr harmonic balancer, you will still experience the same amount of NVH in the cabin as you did before installing the balancer?

I'd absolutely be down for this, and with so many builds going on, I'm sure a lot of people would be as well once it's been tested and proven.

Also, 10% underdrive is an industry standard IME that gives great response without hindering any of the accessories' duty.

I'd turn this into, or start, a poll RPM. 30 people should be no problem on here with the right push as Fluidampr makes great stuff.

Tell Ivan that "Alpha says hey!" Haha!

Thumbs up

I would like one, but can you confirm if you will be sending Fluidampr a standard crank and supporting requirements to actually measure the harmonics and build it specially for the our engine platform? On the past car platform I was modifying, a leading manufacturer worked with FD, but they just shipped him two or three dampeners with varying fluid viscosity and or volume. Unfortunately, they were not interested in conducting the R&D to optimize the harmonic balancer to a specific platform for our low volume and so the vendor didn’t end up following through with them. For ATI it was going to run a grand for each one with the low volume and necessary R&D. Needless to say, no one wanted one at that cost.

Also, will the FD be approximately 10-30% heavier that the stocker? On most applications they add additional weight…at least the ones I have installed.
