Default This Goes Here, Right? (V6 Content)

Story goes I bought this car in April 2013, and sold it to a friend of mine in June 2013. He purchased a 3VZ-FE Quad-Cam V6 from the 92-93 Camry/Lexus ES300 and we put it in. Then he wired it up, fab'd the cat-less exhaust & motor mounts, and installed poly suspension bushings.

He and I made a vehicle trade, and it is now back in my possession with the V6 I wanted to swap in initially, and I am going to do it what I do best, and probably fail miserably.

But anyway, some pics & vids.

What's weight of car and wngine output (tq too) ?


U know me , conversions into light cars are the shit . It's a nice body style , def sounds like it's got some age from the falling apart sounds lol


Should be quite a fun car ... What's the most power U can get out of basic shit to it ?

Weight should be just over 2600lbs

Stock the motor makes 185hp/189 ft lbs. Since I am running a much more open intake, header, & exhaust, I should be making about that in whp, and over 200 ft lbs based on similar set ups. It definitely needs to be dialed, and run cleaner before I make any pulls or passes to really find out what it makes. A trip to the 1/4 mile is definitely in the cards soon though.

With head work, people area making about 240whp, so that's top of NA spectrum with this motor, but for boost, people are giving up @ 4-450whp on the stock long block. No info can be found for people going beyond 500whp. The Z engines are built for boost, and some even came w/ a factory s/c.

Nah, all the tuning on this motor is done w/ a FPR & the AFM. You need real world results to claim anything unless you are running a datalogging standalone.

Not much in the way of updates. Clutch master & slave both needed to be replaced. Now I am trouble shooting a starter issue. The starter doesn't engage at all at the moment.

I did get to install a better sized wheel in the car. The center console, dash, and shift knob will all be addressed.



I also did a reroute on the coolant overflow line.



I have had the car out in the rain, and the V6 is absolutely on point. Drifting this car feels like nothing else I have ever felt before. I do need to source a MR-S Torsen LSD to put in. With that said, I have realized this car will be more of a project than I anticipated for. So updates will continue to be slow as I look for a DD.

.... which I may already have a set of 15x9's for.... hmmm

kudos on the swap, and looks like a lot of fun. is there room for a turbo there? looks damn crampy. maybe a sc will end up the way to go.

Thank you sir. Your assumption is correct, it has its fun moments, but it is a handful at the limit on the blown suspension.

I believe the trunk would be adequate with ducting for a turbo. It is right behind the IM.

Cut that bitch out, and cut out the frunk and hood for real front down force to offset the weight gained in the rear.

I remember Tony 'the Tiger' Leung's turbo v6 camry years and years ago, he was putting down mid-high 400s to the wheels but was fairly conservative with his boost since he wasn't going to get much out of it without slicks on a FWD. Yours looks really fun, would definitely be a challenge fitting a turbo in there. Had friends that had high hp MR-2s and used to use the "trunk" for mounting the turbo and intercooler with some very creative piping setups (a lot of water to air ICs).

Looks good man, I would love to have an MR-2 one day to just fling around on the weekends.

Well I finally found one after 2 years of searching.... and it wasn't cheap. Should make the car worth a little more once I have it BAR'd & able to be smogged like any other OBD1 car.





This bastard has been using my garage most nights the last couple of weeks.

I haven't smogged a car in 6 years, but as far as I know, only cars 2000 (OBD2b) or newer just get a ECU scan, <99 (OBD0, 1, 2a) still get the tailpipe test.

I have a long way to go to being Cali legal, but I found the biggest missing component.

They scan 96 and newer here all ob2

Your trying to get the parts to make the swap smog legal to pass an actual inspection not just the smog test itself right? I think that may have my confusion.

This is the main goal above all else. The car is basically useless for its intended purpose if I can't get it legal, so it must be inspected and certified (BAR). This next spring/summer will be spent getting that all taken care of, before I go turbo.

Parts List
-Manual ecu, headers w/pre-cats, Y-pipe, and catalytic converter.
-Exhaust pipe bends to build exhaust from Y-pipe over subframe and to the cat.
-EVAP canister with Vapor Pressure Sensor (black)
-Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR) off of Camry/ES300 fuel pump
-Camry/ES300 Fuel filter (debatable if I will actually need 2 FF's)
-Vacuum Surge Tank, EVAP Service Port (little green cap), and VSV for Canister Closed Valve (all on one hose that runs off the engine).
-Fill Check Valve from Camry/ES300.
-2" dia. black PVC pipe 4" long, 2 black 2" dia. PVC end caps, and one 1/4" barb fitting to build small remote tank for Fill Check Valve.
-5/8" to 5/16" tee to tap into MR2 filler pipe vent line.
-Lots of various hose clamps to seal everything.

The car sounds good! I have a cousin with an sw20 w/ a built 3s. In general that platform is so rad, so I bet you'll have tons of fun once the suspension is all tidy!

Took the MR2 out on its first official test on a backroad with the V6. Buddy in a MSM on Ohlins DFV 10k/8k w/ 6UL 15x8 & Azenis 615K's is lead. Really light cruise.

Next time I will angle the rear view mirror so you can see behind me.

Why the 3vz over a 3sge red top / black top BEAMS or a 3sgte, besides throttle response and sound?

This car came w/ a 3SFE for some fucking reason, but yeah it is a NA Sunroof model that originally had a 5SFE.

3VZ over Beams because torque everywhere, peak and under the curve is adequate.

3VZ over 3SGTE because w/ FI, I don't need to open the stock block to make "shit your pants power (500)".

The right question would be, why 3VZ over 1MZ/3MZ/2GR, lol.

That throttle response and sound is pretty legit, right? Every Mid Engine car deserves 6+ cylinders. I can't afford a Porsche, so this is as close as I can get until I can.

Just installed rear struts that were not blown, and Goodridge SS brake lines. The car still needs an alignment before actual asphalt/grip testing with new tires (Federal RSR in 195f\205r). These BFG SportComps are completely bald and about to start cording. Next major install with be the oil accumulator, less than 1k left before oil change. Perfect time to do it.
