Default 2009 MS3, MPS 3 boost control inconsistencies

I am opening up a thread to generate as much discussion and data as possible to help COBB address some of the issue with the 2009 vehicles. I found that 2009s do not respond consistently to boost control when using AccessTuner Pro and Race.

The 2009 was a bit of a strange year and the USDM cars have a 2009 specific ATP ROM. The international cars fall under the gen1 umbrella even if they are built in 2009.

I believe the ROMs for these vehicles are not compatible with some aspects of the maps generated through ATP.

The first example is a 2009 from Mexico. This car will not increase WGDC to reach boost targets in 1 out of 5 runs. Nothing changes between the tunes in this car from run to run. He is at 5000 ft altitude.

The graphs below illustrate runs taken back to back in 3rd gear starting at the same RPM.

A second example is Canadian car using the 2009 specific USDM ROM. This car is at 1500 feet altitude and in this case wastegate does not respond to bring boost down to load and boost targets. The boost toggle is on and boost targets are 2 psi below where the boost settles to. Notice that wastegate stays completely flat. Only way to get this car to hit targets was to heavily manipulate the base WGDC table. The feedback system to control boost was not working as expected.

These are not the only 2009s that have shown inconsistency and most importantly behaviour that is different from how the other MS3 and MS6 vehicles react to the same COBB tables. I feel it is worth re-assessing the compatibility of the 2009 vehicles with the current COBB ROMs.

If you guys this, I can get the ROMs from these vehicles for you guys to investigate and I am sure others with 2009s can chime in and provide ROMs.

Does the 08.5 fall under the 2009 USDM?

Does not. It falls under the 2008 model year and there are no issues with the 2008.5 cars.

Lex,

Lemme dig into this a bit. Are you using OTS and modifying from there are are you using your own tunes? Boost and Load comps are populated or no?

The 2008s are not affected. In North America we had a 2008.5 model car that had the updated interior. This was still a 2008 car.

The source of the problem may or may not be this in your car. There are many parameters that control boost and without seeing some data from the car it's not possible to determine what the cause of the low boost is. When/if you do get logs, use the following parameters:

Accel. Pedal Pos.
Actual AFR
Boost
Boosted Air Temp
Calculated Load
Coolant Temp
Engine Speed (RPM)
HPFP Actual Pressure
Injector Duty Cycle
Intake Temp
Intake Valve Adv.
Knock Retard
Long Term FT (LTFT)
MAF Voltage
Mass Airflow
Spark Advance
Throttle Position
Vehicle Speed
Wastegate Duty Cycle

our 09's are all gen 2's...

we usually add 1 to our model year to get the equivalent USDM model...

i know mine is one of the last of the gen 1's, how would i check to see if i'm affected/can help?

@Lex; did you ever find any resolution to this? WOT logs ride my WGDC tables perfectly within a degree or two and will not try to bring them up to meet boost targets. The only thing I haven't tried yet is completely scrapping my tune and starting with a fresh OTS, which I don't think would fix the problem anyways. '09 with mods in sig. I haven't tried to mess with it enough to see if it will bring WGDC down for overboost situations or not. I can continue to manipulate wgdc tables as I have in the past, but it would be nice for the ECU to do some of the work. Thanks man, I know you're a busy guy.
