Default Closed Loop, Open Loop

I remember reading how this ECU was harder to deal with because of the closed loop.

I dont know much so educate me.

I see plenty of tables in here that according to the Cobb documentation can turn off closed loop.
Closed Loop-Exit delay
Closed Loop-Max load
Closed Loop Max throttle.

So if the closed loop is a problem...... why not turn it off??
Im half a bottle of wine in, so forgive me if I am over looking something simple??

for one your gas mileage will suck if you are always in open loop. I don't know why people hate closed loop so much. The car is adapting to the conditions.

ok...here's what I've gathered about closed/open loop:

1. It's there for emmissions/gas mileage.
2. Australians don't have the closed/open loop logic in the ECU (?)
3. One of our guys in Toronto prodded Christian to tune out his "phantom knock", and Christian replied that he can do so at the expense of perhaps 2mpg or something...I suspect it has to do with this.

It'd be cool to have a "hot" map that eliminates the closed/open loop transition, but without live map switching capabilities, I don't know how safe or a good idea it is.

yesterday i messed with that and changed it from 30ms to 15ms and well that just got me a whole bunch of partial throttle knock as soon as my foot hit the gas pedal. changed it back and it went away.

Not according to the cobb notes:

Closed Loop – Max Load A
Closed Loop – Max Load B
Closed Loop – Max Load C
Closed Loop – Max Load D
Closed Loop – Max Load E
Table Description – These tables are used to adjust if the ECU stays in closed-loop based on calculated
engine load values. A lower value in these tables will cause the ECU to enter into open-loop at lower
engine loads. A higher value will create a delay and will force the car to stay in closed-loop until higher
calculated engine load values are achieved. When calculated engine loads are above these values the car
MAY run in closed loop if other conditional parameters are met.

Closed Loop – Max Throttle A
Closed Loop – Max Throttle B
Closed Loop – Max Throttle C
Closed Loop – Max Throttle D
Closed Loop – Max Throttle E
Table Description – These tables are used to adjust if the ECU stays in closed-loop based on throttle
position values. A lower value in these tables will cause the ECU to enter into open-loop at lower throttle
values. A higher value will create a delay and will force the car to stay in closed-loop until higher throttle
position values are achieved. When throttle position values are above these values the car MAY run in
closed loop if other conditional parameters are met.

you'd have to adjust all of the boost and load limits above where they could expect to get to. for example, you could make the boost limits - fuel cut and boost limits - throttle close all above the range of the stock MAP sensor. the reason that cobb didn't want to do this was because its pretty dangerous on a car that doesn't have a boost gauge from the factory.

I'm pretty sure we do, unless my Dashhawk is telling me something else?
