Default How to properly log your WOT run

To make sure people don't waste their own time posting useless logs, here's some info for you...

Only things you have to log for a WOT run: Accel. Pedal position, LTFT, MAF g/s, MAF volts, AFR, KR, Fuel Pressure, Boost, RPM, Calc. load, WG Duty, Spark Advance.

To log a proper WOT run, start at around 2600RPM and floor it all the way to 6300RPM. You can do this in either 3rd or 4th gear.

Unless it's a specific problem you're facing, these parameters should be able to tell anyone how is your car doing. Remember that the more parameters you log, the less your "log rate" is. A faster rate is always better. If you got a specific problem, deselect any parameters you don't need or add them.

If it's a MAF calibration log, you only need RPM,KR,LTFT,STFT,MAF g/s, and MAF Voltage. Start logging from a very low 1500rpm at 2nd gear and SLOWLY bring your RPM's up until you reach about 100g/s (set your AP so you see MAF airflow during the log).

This works almost in the same way for Dashawk users, but you're only able to log 5 parameters at a time. I would highly suggest making 2 separate logs on the same gear so you're able to log 10 things but RPM and KR should be in both logs IMO.

Had to thank you for this...I didn't realize the log rate slowed as the parameters increased. That will be extremely helpful in the future.

Good stuff, it's easy for new people to the platform/AP to get overwhelmed and things we take for granted as obvious sometimes aren't very clear until you've been doing it awhile.

Nice post

No spark advance? No WGDC?

I would personally not bother to log accel pedal position, we can usually tell when you floor it from when the LTFT transitions or from when the MAF g/s shoots up. Throttle position is also kinda unnecessary.

Sometimes g/s shoots up but people don't know if they're full throttle or not, or the person seeing the log for that matter.

The missing parameters were in the Excel file but i forgot to add some to my post. WGDC, will add that. Spark is something more advanced and people shouldn't be touching it if they don't even know how to log, lol. I will add that as well though. So many damn parameters and i've been away from ATR for a while.

I removed Throttle Pos since you will tell from the Accel pedal position if they're full WOT or not.

Also an other question regarding WOT. Why will someone will like to go WgOT, even during racing? Please forgive my naive question but I'm coming from a manual driving background where you usually don't go WOT but instead adjust your speed to your gear.

Thanks.

WOT = wide open throttle. full throttle. pedal to the metal. putting the hammer down. flooring it. whatever you want to call it. Essentially you're testing the highest limit of your cars potential which is why you want to log WOT runs to make sure everything is running fine.

Guys, ssinstaller is right in not going wot before 3k rpm but for logging purposes and to make sure your stuff is okay down low, i recommended to start logging at 2600rpm. Going WOT under 3k rpm on a regular basis is bad for your engine.

Good thing about ATR though is that you can also limit boost under 3k to prevent too much stress on the engine.

Can you slowly ramp into throttle or does this make a WOT log file less accurate? I never go WOT under 3800RPM but do start getting into the throttle gradually around 3k or 3200. Thanks.

You need to go WOT so the ECM goes open loop and stops using the fuel trims.. Rolling into the throttle may not get you into open loop until well into your pull..

I would highly suggest making 2 separate logs on the same gear so you're able to log 10 things but RPM and KR should be in both logs IMO.
thanks dude, should have ap in a couple days. will do

Sorry to bump an old one, but I had a question. I don't have an AP yet, but I've been reading about tuning with it. Why 3rd or 4th gear? Why wouldn't 2nd gear work? I'll probably end up doing 3rd gear (4th is too fast), but I'm just curious.

Taller gears give more data points since it goes through the rev range slower, and besides, if you have traction at WOT in 2nd gear you are doing it wrong.

Thanks. Figured it might be a traction problem. Hadn't thought of the slower accel giving more points, that makes sense.

Glad it's still helpful to some of you. It was just a generic post to those very new to AP logging back in the days.

ATR/AP is awesome.

this is pretty good but could someone add the equation you need to fix AFR that isn't hitting target. You know in the MAF curve.
