Default Blown Corksport Turbo

Running 27 max but regular aggressive tune at a daily 24 because this turbo likes to spike to 27 psi at high rpms. Straight pipe exhaust large FMIC and and bunch of other shit but here's the pics! Bearings aren't the best quality. Ran for 10k miles and had it since December

Corksport has not said anything about warranties yet but I guess we will see! Everything else I've purchased from them has been great but my turbo charger shop said this turbo can't be ran for very long in the mid to high 2.0 bar range

Time to start my build thread for a 200sxe big turbo swap

That sucks man. You should come up to Huntsville for a meet sometime. I'll make a thread soon, but probably next Sunday.

I don't track her too much I'm a top speed junky. Vdyno had me at around 415 HP and 450 FT lb's of torque on the aggressive tune running 100% e85. Changed my Timing curve to drop my torque load and high boost at around 5K and eventually made a safe 375hp 350 ft lb's on smoothing 3.0 scaling. This was also a 50/50 e85 gas setup

Will be selling my stock exhaust manifold, OBX (reinforced welded) long pipe with no cats, Cobb Turbo Inlet and SF Intake here soon once I tear down and get some pictures put up on the for sale forums. Also have some stock front calipers laying around. Need monies for this build. Everything custom fit and welded right down to the manifold and it's an upgraded s200sxe we will see where this takes us

You may have a piece of history in your possession, the first ever blown CS turbo. I haven't heard of anyone else blowing theirs yet...

So if they replace under warranty are you still going bigger turbo?

Yes and no lol ... Big turbo = 2 months downtime for part fabrication and 3 extra grand. This is my daily but I do work from home .. meaning I would love a replacement to get me by a few months so I can take my time and go for a second engine.

It was a good turbo though and it drops in easily ... would I buy it again ? No .. the only advantage to this over the K04 is reduces EGT's due to bigger exhaust housing and the fact that it pulled hard until redline. I took her into the 170's & 180's a time or two

Mine is like #5 or something like that and I am worried she might be toast, just blew through 3 quarts of oil in 400 miles. On a completely rebuilt engine that just got broke in.

Does CS have any kind of warranty on their turbo?

Yes, though I cannot recall the specifics of what was on my warranty sheet I filled out. I think it was 1 or 2 years.

How did you notice yours was going? I just started occasionally puffing blue smoke, pretty worried I am in for a replacement already with only 15k on the turbo, the K04 got me 130k so I hoped for at least as good a performance.

But were you pushing your K04 as hard as you were the cs?

I was running stage 2 19 psi tunes on the K04 for about 3 years. I never even got my CS tuned. It was on safe mode spring pressure up until about 2 months ago. I had it tuned up to 21 psi on just a few revs and did maybe a dozen Wot logs, other than that didn't really push it much. I hit 24 psi once or twice for a millisecond in overboost, but CS says tuning to 30 psi is the limit so I don't expect that did it in. Just got it setup in 3 port and the last wot log was immaculate at 17 psi. If I had been beating it I could see it going in 1 year and about 15k miles but she's been babied.

Won't know for sure what's up until I check the compressor housing out but definitely concerned.

I'll be curious to hear what they find for the cause of failure. I wouldn't take it apart yourself unless you are told it's out of warranty.

Any update on this? I'm still waiting for my TBE to be ready and am already looking for a BT next. I am pleased with Corksport so far, and would love a plug and play option as I am still learning to wrench as I go. Did they fix the problems from the earlier ones? A BNRs3 is also on my radar. Good luck nonetheless

I have been working with them on mine, I am very happy with the customer support and it sounds like they have not been contacted with any blown turbos so far. If there are issues it sounds like they will likely rebuild it under warranty so once I have it swapped for my new CS turbo I'll send the existing one back to them to examine. I have a feeling the CHRA must have worn unevenly on the hot side but until I pull it I cannot really say what is going on other than lots of oil in the exhaust.

I see no reason not to put in a CS Turbo unless you have higher power goals.

ninja edit, you could always order a Td05 rebuild kit, as long as the wheels didnt touch it should be ok

were you using an oil restrictor with this turbo?

Seems to be a few of these failures/problems on the CS turbo doesn't seem right. Just hope this doesn't turn out to be another "lug nut/cams/HPFP internals"-like case again.

It already is. Tons of people with CS turbos are having problems with boost creep, and the problem is inherent to the hot side design. Now on top of that we're also looking at durability issues. I think the product should be re-engineered.

That's unfortunate to hear. I really like CS as they are one of the few to really keep supporting this platform.

I was going to go with a CS turbo instead of the S3v2 initially. Only thing that stopped me was the fact that it can't be clocked so I couldn't use my HTP piping. Seems I avoided quite the headache.

Technically, if you run the engine out to 7k RPM in 6th you can hit over 180 even on stock-sized tires.

Results are in, mine blew up but because shop tech left a chunk of metal in the turbo/exhaust mani. Somebody is paying for a new turbo and giving my labor charges back.

I see this thread is kinda dead but I figured I would post a reply anyway.

I am currently running a CST4 @ max 20 psi that's been in my car for about 20k miles and it has started burning oil like a MF. It's a daily so I've been looking for a reliable replacement that's more fun than the stock turbo. The new CST5 is coming out and I've thought about waiting and buying that but I'm not sure if I want to buy a CST when the CST4 blew up so easily and quickly.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a good turbo?

First of all, you need to know why it blow if it isn't high mileage....
Do you let it warm or cool down correctly?
If you have a crank case ventilation problem, any turbo will end up the same way.
If you have turbo surge, it may not last longer...

I would also check compression to make sure it is your turbo.

Why would you get a larger one if you was just running that one at 20psi ? I never try a CS but i think you have some room to grow above 20....

BNR got good feedback for the price.
I personally prefer a Garrett ball bearing especially the new ones with extended R&D of the wheels.
If you were looking for real big, Precision and Borgwarner EFR seem popular choices...

If you check for leaks and you didn't made a test under compressor pressure, you aren't done checking for leaks....

I am also curious as to the longevity of the CS turbo. It’s definitely appealing at $1099 with the 3bar. Have they stood up to the test of time?

So far as I can tell one of the seals has gone bad and is leaking oil into the exhaust. The turbo builds boost well and spools fine.

It's hard for me to know exactly how well the car has been taken care of because I bought it only 7k miles ago. Idk if the previous owner beat it up and then before he sold it put an easier tune on it to make it look better then it actually was.

I've been under the car. There are no leaks from the engine and it's all healthy (as far as I can tell). Smoke has been coming out of the exhaust infrequently which hints at the turbo. I haven't dropped the exhaust and looked up into the turbo to see if there's oil yet but I plan to soon.

The turbo is most likely rebuildable but CS don't want to sell me just the seals. They want me to pay for their entire CHRA. I have the old OEM turbo. I might just end up rebuilding that and sticking it back in.

Daily driver - 45k miles on my CST. Running 22psi on 93 and 24psi on e25 tuned by FreekTune, burns zero oil. Only issue was some boost creep after the initial install that was solved by porting the interal wastegate outlet a bit, I have a the first version and I believe this has since been resolved with the newer ones. It's been absolutely rock solid.

dropping the exaust wont help much, take engine compression and leak down instead. engine blow by will make the exaust smoke too.

IT is a bushing turbo, i would expect any good turbo shop can rebuild it and figure out the correct parts to do so.

Keep in mind the CS is larger than oem, the k04 usually choke around 17-18 psi above 5000-5500rpm
