Default Ball Joint Replacements

Hey all,

So my ball joints are bad, really bad. Mechanic said to order Moog's and he'll get them replaced for me, however I'm having a really hard time trying to find replacement ball joints for my 2010 MS3.

Total n00b here, but from all my searching I only see Advanced Auto selling the lower control arms + ball joints for ~180$ per side.

Is this accurate in that I must replace my control arms as well, or can I get away from just doing the ball joints? If so, does anyone have a part # or brand that is a known OEM replacement?

You do not have to get a whole control arm. The ball joint is replaceable on its own. I dont have part numbers, but can get them if you still need them.

When i replaced them on my gen 1 i believe i got them from NAPA. Ill look through my paperwork tomorrow to find the part numbers I used.

I am talking about front lower ball joints. I dont think there are any others on the MS3

You need to buy the whole arm for the Gen 2, I always order from Rock Auto https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...trol+arm,10401

My driver's side needs replacing soon. While I was replacing the engine it looked the same as my previous speed. I will buy the same ball joint I used previously and give it a try.

Yeah I have a gen2. So are there seperate front balljoints? Cause I searched hi and low and only found that you must buy entire arm.

On my gen 1 i replaced both lower ball joints separately. While i was doing the engine on my gen 1 i was looking at the ball joints because one was loose and it looked similar so i thought it could be replaced separately. I will know for sure when i attempt it soon.
I used Moog part # K500209 for my gen 1 and will order these to try for the gen 2

Edit: further research shows gen 1 and gen 2 control arms are different part numbers. I am still going to compare the replacement ball joint and attempt replacement. If it works then I'm a genius, if it doesn't then ill just replace the control arms. I have the tools so i may as well try.
