Default OEM GT-R Ignition Coil

Hey MSF!

I came across a very cool coil pack shootout online by some Australian racing shop and raised my curiosity.

Other than the AEM/Haltech coil, an OEM GTR R35 coil provided high output, low draw and long duration. As I'm sure most already know, these OE parts are made by Nissin, Hitachi, etc and then re-boxed with the appropriate brand. Both the GTR & MS3 coils feature a removable sleeve which, could potentially be compatible or possibly fit the length

I was wondering if anyone has already experimented with this, or if you have any constructive thoughts?

If you watched that video, you also noticed the guy talk about different dwell and latency or something else.

If those parameters don't match up to what the ECU is expecting, it won't work properly. And last I checked, our tuning solutions don't provide a way to adjust those parameters.

Something interesting i found while about to purchase oem ignition coils yesterday..On Edge and Mazda dealers etc the gen1 and speed 6 part L3G218100B9U and gen 2 LF2L18100A shows they are different part numbers. The gen 1's are also around $30 more expensive
I have emailed a few to ask the difference and neither can explain it.

I'm just speculating since both gens have different ECU's i'm wondering if the gen 2's Ecu gives out a different signal and both need a specific coil. it may be part of the reason Gen2s generally don't suffer as much from knock at partial throttle.

I always read the knock algorithm in the ECU is different for the PUs.

Thanks for the input guys! My Speed is my first piston build and always looking for a hack. Ignition upgrades were always a solid mod for rotary.

People really take some upgrades for granted. Simple shit like coils and injectors on some platforms are a simple upgrade that a bunch of companys offer not to mention bigger shit like aftermarket heads and valve packages and aftermarket computers... Were stuck with aux fueling, jamming copper rods in our shit with tiny gaps, porting and not tuning past 7k. /rant
