Phone matters as well. My 2013 did not display any information for Pandora, etc. I bought a new phone recently and now it does.

Good to note that I have a HTC one running the latest software update being 4.3.

My girlfriend has a Samsung galaxy s4 and nothing comes up

Might be blue tooth version. My old phone was a galaxy with BT 3.0 my new phone is a moto x with BT 4.0.

Yes I have a Note III and it shows nothing but my Droid Razr did.

Again...Moto X and Kit Kat users do not have the Bluetooth stack that sends anything to our cars. 4.3 does.

I have all the tags/steering wheel controls on my Galaxy Nexus. I just can't get used to having to manually go into the music app each time i get in the car and remember to exit it when I get out of the car to keep the battery from draining. You kids and your fancy technology can suck a fat one, I'm sticking to CDs. I can put a shitload of MP3s on a disc and also have it display track info.

Maybe I was wrong about KK. The API and bluetooth stack changed going to 4.4 from 4.3, but currently OmniRom and my S3 work fine with it.

You should have figured this out by now, but you go into the settings page by clicking the info button on your steering wheel. You'll find it.

Ok so here's the deal with Bluetooth and iPhones...

The iPhone will not show track data in the 10+ mazda for some stupid reason(I've spent hours trying to figure this out). Droids however will. The iPhone shows the track data in other cars (Toyota for instance)

The pause button DOES WORK you just have to double click it really fast for some strange reason.

Darth, are you rooted or did you do anything special to get metadata? I have a '10 and stock MotoX on 4.4.2, nothing shows.

No I'm not rooted. My moto x is on Verizon and is version 4.4.2. My car is 2013 though so maybe something subtly changed between model years.

I know this is an old post but it's showing up on page 2, so I'm putting in my 2 cents. Apparently this is a bug with many cars, they require your phone to be on version 1.3 of AVRCP, despite it being backwards compatible. So if your phone tells the car it has version 1.4 of AVRCP, the car's BT module won't ask the phone for the track metadata.

After work today I'm going to root my phone and start tweaking the system/etc/bluetooth/device_config.xml. That file (on my phone anyways) has a line in it, Really not sure if changing that will do anything or not but it's something to try. I also have a phone with 1.3 that works fine so I'll compare with my new phone to see if there's anything else that might work by changing stuff. I don't think there's much that can be done without rooting since the BT stuff is all system-level.

I just figure that since the audio/call portion works fine, perhaps there's a way to fool the car into thinking the device is on 1.3.

I'll report back if anything interesting happens.

Update: I logged a btsnoop and went through it, the only thing I could see right away was the phone sending the AVRCP feature byte and the head unit receiving it as Unknown. Long day at work and don't feel like pursuing it much further lol.
Really I don't think you can spoof the version, you need a different BT stack which means pretty much flashing a custom ROM. Also my old GNex had a whole different set of files in /system/etc/bluetooth so that might be vendor or device specific and internal to the implementation/stack itself.

you know loading Tasker on the GNex would be able to stop and turn of the music / app and put it back into hibernation mode.

You could have it look for the BT connection from the car to start up the music app as the trigger.

Since then I've started using poweramp, and there's settings in there that makes it start/stop playback on connect/disconnect. I'm still not 100% on the Bluetooth train, I can change a CD without looking away from the road. Fucking around in an app on my phone is another story.

I have a 2012 with tech and my iPhone 6 Plus doesn't need show anything on the screen for both Spotify and the music app.. it worked great in my 2014 Mazda 3 though.
