That is only one of many possible problems that could arise. Obviously, the bumper beam we offer is not the same as the OEM. Dimensions, amount of free space, as well as many other things are different. What if we modify it as requested and things don't fit as expected? Who is liable at that point? Who pays for the replacement? What are we to do with the one with holes drilled in it? Who pays for freight? Customers sometimes like to request reimbursement for lost labour time. There are just too many what if's. This is why we will not make custom modifications unless the car is here in-house. No exceptions. If you feel this is a sign of poor customer service, so be it.

Close to US$1200 order and UR can not drill two 1/2" (12mm) holes thru the bar, now that is what I would call CUSTOMER SERVICE, EH.

And CPE is getting brutalized for the cost of their system, at least they are concerned with CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Z
Z, there's plenty of room behind the bumper to mount horns, other than on the crash bar. I had the PIAA horns, and now the Hella horns on my car. Both Hella horns are forward facing, behind the bumper, without mounting them on the crash bar.

I agree with what UR said, about not modifying their product to suit your needs. Too many "what if's" can happen should those holes not suit your needs.

Have you called CP-E, and are they willing to drill holes for you on their product?

so much whining to vendors about this at that. If the product fits and does what it is supposed to do then the vendor did its job.

This would obviously be my problem, you would have a drawing or sketch, from me showing what I am requesting, you make the modification to my drawing/sketch, things do not fit properly then it is my problem. All I wanted was a reason, NO is not a reason. If drilling holes in the bar causes structural issue, then this is something that I or any one else needs to know. The bar is only designed to hold up the IC, so I doubt it is a structural issue.

I agree with what UR said, about not modifying their product to suit your needs. Too many "what if's" can happen should those holes not suit your needs.
Finding a new spot would not be an issue, although I like where they are currently located. Without alot of pictures and dimensions, I don't know where I can relocate the horn. I was attempting to minimize additional work/down time. I hate to find out that I need to make an extra modification once I start a project, I agree this does happen, but FAIL TO PLAN, PLAN TO FAIL.

What IFs addressed above.

Yes, I am concerned that we are removing the crash bar which is designed to transfer the load to the crumple zone. I will have the discussion with the other suppliers about the replacement bar.

There are a couple pictures earlier in this thread where things looked extremely tight, whinning, no, wanting to know why a customer request can not be done, yes, the whinning would start when the turbo outlet pipe actually hit the TMIC mounting stud or rubbed during operation.

And if trying to get the best quaility/engineered/warrantied product for the money is an issue, so be it.

"Sorry, we wouldn't be able to do that for you."

I think I said "NO" very politely. If you wanted reasons, all you had to do was ask. I would've been more than happy to answer as I did with all of your previous emails. Emailing AND posting about my lack of customer service is uncalled for in my opinion.

Z, the UR crashbar wasn't made the hold the FMIC up. In fact, the FMIC does NOT bolt onto the crashbar at all. I have it. You can go look at the pics on UR's site. The FMIC is bolted onto the radiator support on the bottom of the 2 sides, behind the inlet and outlet, and also in the middle, maybe 6" down from the hood latch. The crashbar bolts onto the car on the 4 holes on (2 on each side, onto the frame rail ends), where the stock crashbar bolts on. The FMIC sits behind the crashbar.

You will not have to make any special modifications to mount the Hella horns, even without drilling into or through the crash bar. You can also mount them where the stock horn is, behind the bumper, on the left side. You can also mount them on the bolts that holds the crashbar onto the frame rails.

This kit fits perfectly. I opted out of a crash bar, so I don't have on, kit doesn't need it for mounting. I voiced some concerns regarding the clamps, however, they have held up perfectly, so I have no complaint about this kit. I don't care about a crash bar, so I got this kit for $405 less than the CP-E kit, which does come with a crash bar, but is useless to me.

Z, their response was totally professional, not sure what you're upset about. This is a good kit for the price, you should get it

A, just wanted a reason, that is all I wanted, if you wife/gf says no, do you want a reason or do you just go lick yourself like the dog. I don't have access to a drill press and I suck trying to drill thru square tubing. How is the fit going across the top, the pic from the OP shows this to be close and after a few hard accelerations I question if it hits.

I agree the kit is nice, this is why I was entertaining the thought of buying, bigger exchanger that the other folks, I do like T-bolts rather than worm gear, I do like the other crash bar - little stouter and tow hook built in, like the UR option with the couplers, like the large outlet on the other, if you could blend the two products you would have a very nice FMIC. Hell, I was one of the first to get their CBE w/TI tips and have been pushing this CBE on everyone I come in contact with. A buddy actually tried to purchase on the TI tip but this could not happen.

MY BAD, I JUST WANTED TWO 1/2" HOLES, I WILL JUST FIU WITH MY DRILL, OR FIND ANOTHER MOUNTING POINT.

I am still concerned that the outlet piping will interfere with my OCC tubing but we will see about that later.

Z,

I appreciate your business, as well as all the positive words you've shared with others about our products.

At the end of the day, we simply can't help with any custom requests like this one. No matter how simple it may seem to you. It isn't something we offer to anyone, so please don't take it personal.

If my tone came off as negative in my email then I apologize. Hopefully, we can both learn from this.

As for the fitment of the product, as Amazon has stated, it does fit very well. Fitment is always been something we have prided ourselves on. I did reply to the above fitment issue and even offered up a suggestion.

Geez, he's the man that makes these kits, if he says no, then no it is. Don't whine about it and say it's poor customer service. Who cares if he didn't provide a reason, HE is the man behind the product, and he has the right to simply say no. It is not your God given right to demand a reason. You are the consumer, if you don't like it, don't buy it. My gosh too many people expect way too much from companies today. UR makes quality stuff, and there are other companies that make good stuff too. Get a drill and good bit and make two holes and stop crying. Reading your sniveling is making me somewhat embarassed to be a member here.
That is all, I'm coming down from my soapbox now.

In the business world, if you do something special for someone once, expect to have to do the same again and for other people. Customers, by nature tend to expect the same service repeatedly. And if you give them an inch, they'll gladly take the next 2 miles as well. A gesture of good faith can turn into a hellish bickering nightmare.

5 years of management has taught me this lol

Once again, this kit is solid, it doesn't hit anything under hard acceleration. Bat's remain within 10 - 15* of ambient, and I can't say I can notice any added lag.

25 years of engineering with 10 years in project management have taught me, scope always changes, giving up small items makes getting the big ones easier.

Airhunt you are right, no whining, fuck it, spend an extra 130 and money stays in the states, later. If you want some whinning go to thread concerning CPE FMIC, I am sure as hell no bitching about price.

I was going to be buying this kit out right from UR, but i got lucky and picked up a new one in the for sale forums on here for a very good price with black piping and some vibrant tbolt clamps, i will be installing this kit next week. (Going TDY this week and wont be able to)

I will be glad to post up detailed pics of the install to show everything with clearances and all.

Darryl I will be ordering a crash bar from you within the next couple of weeks if thats possible, thats all that i need for the complete kit?

@dMuze

Can you please give us an update on how the FMIC is running after a few months? I may be purchasing this in the near future.

Thanks

For those of you going with a big turbo if you want the kit to fit correctly you need to grab a 45° reducing coupler that is 2in to 2.5in. Also if you tighten the clamps down that come with the kit it's not going anywhere. The clamps are actually really good. I prefer them over t-bolt since they are thinner since they have thinner bands. Theoretically should put more pressure down across the surface of the band, and aren't as bulky.

Also to isolate where the the tmic mounting points won't rub on it I made a mount using a 2.5 inch loop clamp. I've made a few more revisions but this is all I have a picture of right now since my car is in the shop.

My intercooler shipped wihout the bolts that should have been supplied.. Anyone have the bolt size? I think its even on the instructions (They are in my car.. at the shop that is installing the kit.. along with 5thport, headbolts, vvt, etc etc.) Also im assuming it should be 2 bolts, washers, and 2 nuts.
