Pros and cons for both, detailed in many other threads.

In your case, I would go aluminum so you could change the coupler out if needed to fit the BNR or whatever turbo you go with in the future.. I'm pretty sure that is detailed as well.

Based on the mods listed in your sig, I would suggest you put the money toward something else first like an Accessport and/or hpfp internals. Especially considering you need a tuning device for that intake.

yes a ap3 and internals are on very top of my list..
im trying to get all my mods on paper..and make sure I'm getting good parts that I don't have to swap out later down the road. .I have been reading and researching to find out..but came up empty on these two..

I know aluminum will make more noise..
but any other benefit?
silicon will have less clamps..less likely to leak..

any thing else I'm missing?

He told you this above. An aluminum intake utilizes a coupler to connect to the turbo. This means that you can change the coupler to fit other inlet sizes if you upgrade the turbo.

It's an intake and you're on a k04...any pros or cons for either will be minimal in comparison to each other. The only benefit with the aluminum is the ability to swap couplers in case you turbo swap down the road, like mentioned above. The quality of the part is what you should be concerned with and in my personal experience, JBR has never let me down.

I am currently running their 3.0 sillicone intake before the TRU revision and have zero complaints. I was able to run it with the stock battery box and stock ecu location. However, the bracing clamp was rubbing the ECU cover so I opted to relocate my ecu. Just food for thought.

You should really go AP and internals before all else. Like, you don't even need to put it down on paper, it's a staple in the speed3 mod path. Also keep in mind you will need a tune on deck once you opt for a larger than stock intake. I believe Stratified has MAF cal tables to get you up and running but you should consider an E-Tune after that.

The idea of silicone vs aluminum is that silicone keeps IATs lower before entering the turbo. But at the end of the day, your still adiabatically compressing air in a turbo that most people run out of its efficiency range, thereby producing a shit ton of heat. Even if you see a degree or two pre-turbo, it's coming out post-turbo hot as fuck, so who cares. You're not going to be able to tell a difference. Get the aluminum for flexibility to switch setups down the line.

Normally I would be the guy to argue one over the other... but all I have to say to this one is that the aluminum makes more pssssh noises and if you upgrade turbos you can swap the coupler for a different one. The silicone is quieter and a bit more insulated to engine bay heat. Pick whichever looks better to you.

The beaner has a slightly larger inlet than the K04 [~1/4"]. I think some have been able to muscle a stock-sized coupler onto the BNR -- I'd suggest saving yourself the headache, and getting an appropriately-sized coupler if you go BNR.

Jbr lists the bnr with stock so not sure how to get one sized right? May just use a heat gun and warm it up before forcing it on.

Just went back and referenced an old invoice. Looks like I got a 2.5" to 3" coupler [for the BNR S3] when I ordered my HTP intake.

If you have no plans to go with any other turbo setup then the stock KO4, the silicone intake is the better performing intake. If you're undecided about your future turbo plans, the aluminum intake would be the better choice. Both fit excellent, we have couplers for any size turbo inlet, they are currently on sale and shipping is included if you live in the US as well.

Actually, I have the best answer of anyone here for you. I've run both aluminum and silicone intakes and turbo inlets. I found that silicone allows for more adjustability with respect to location within the engine bay and alignment with other parts, but this isn't really much of an issue with any legit, well-manufactured parts.

So...

Buy the cheapest name-brand one you can find. Peruse the For Sale section here and find something for yourself.

I'm running a CP-E Nano intake and 3" CP-E TIP that I bought for a total of $150.00.

I previously ran the CP-E Nano and a CS TIP for $180.00 combined.

Basically, as long as you're willing to fine-tune your MAF calibration, you can run just about any pieces of pipe you want for your intake, but you damn well better make sure that whatever MAF housing you use has a MAF air straightener in it, or you're gonna have a bad time.

Had a Cobb SRI with stock TIP when I bought the car
Then Cobb SRI & TIP
Then JBR original silicone 3" (w 2.875"? MAF)
Now CS full aluminum 3"

I noticed a difference from the SRI & stock TIP to the Cobb TIP. But after that, really not much until I started using e85. Then I went to the 3". Just make sure your MAFCAL is good and you will be fine with whatever you get. It's more personal preference than anything, unless you will be upgrading your turbo down the line also. If you want to hear more sound, go pipe. If you want it quieter, go silicone.

It does fit, but it was friggin tight. After a few heat cycles though, you can remove and reinstall it with minimal effort but still very snug, which I prefer to the 2.5" being slightly too large from the start.
