Question Power Path Stage 2 installed (awesome) - remove factory air collector? (genpu)

I recently bought and installed the JBR powerpath stage 2 on my 2012 speed3, first mod, and I love it to death. Jamie/Jennifer provided great customer service. The install guide is awesome, far better than some competitors, and it went without a hitch.

Question: The install guide leaves the furthest upstream bits of the factory intake installed, not sure what to call them, air collector and hose? See attached picture, green circle, shows the hose i removed, but I left in the furthest upstream plastic piece (not pictured). Is it best to leave those installed? I see that it would direct airflow to the filter, but I was thinking that the hose itself was pointed slightly down. Leaving only the initial air collector/deflector will still generally direct ram air at the air filter.

I can get some better pictures later if it helps, i stole the attached from JBRs install guide:

Thanks!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that hose in the green circle shouldn't be part of the OEM intake system at all...

It's definitely part of the stock intake system. It connects directly to the factory airbox. You can also see it in step 3 and 6 of the instructions linked above.

It's an MS3 thing. My factory air-box had only one ingress and one egress, and the ingress was located in the driver's side wheel well. There was no "ram-air" intake hose leading to the grill.

You can remove it. Just leave the larger section of the tube as it has clips to hold some cooling lines to the radiator support

I left mine installed for a long time and then removed it last week. It is used to get fresh air to the stock intake box but it is not needed on the JBR intake. Mine was actually scrapping up against my Corksport intake so that is why I took it out but I don't think it will do that to the JBR intake.

I was pondering that same thing the other day. Decided to just leave it attached on the off chance I need to stock out for some reason. One less thing to put back.

In SRI mode I left the factory ducting in place to direct fresh cool air at the filter. In CAI mode it probably won't help much.

I took the entire piece out and it does help bring down the Intake and BAt's as air now passes directly over the intake manifold. Also I have a FMIC and took out the scoop from the hood and you will be amazed how much more heat comes out now. One last thing if you decide to leave that piece of the OEM intake you could get the new Cobb SRI box that utilizes that section and acts as a ram air. Just my 2 cents enjoy the new intake!!

One last thing if you decide to leave that piece of the OEM intake you could get the new Cobb SRI box that utilizes that section and acts as a ram air. Just my 2 cents enjoy the new intake!!
I found the same thing. When I ran a cp-e nano SRI my IAT's were lower with that piece of oem intake ducting removed. Lower BAT's were inconclusive but IAT's were definitely better. The best way to lower IAT's with an SRI is to remove the weather stripping at the rear of the hood. IAT's dropped a solid 4* with that free mod.

Oem intake ducting meaning the one with the round end. That's the one i removed. The square one that clips to the radiator housing I left in. IAT's (under hood temps) got hotter when I removed it so I re installed it.
