Default Questions before ordering a "Path Stage II Power Intake"

Ok I have a few questions. Coming from helping my friends with subarus, I always told them to get a tune before putting on an intake and all that jazz. I already know I do not need a tune, and I will get instant power gains. Then if I do add a tune, I will have even more power gains.

However I am sort of new with the Mazda platform.
I already know I do not need a tune, and I will get instant power gains. Then if I do add a tune, I will have even more power gains!

So My questions are:

Do i need a tune for one of these without having a check engine light poping up?

And where can I find a free tune for my Accessport that I will be buying in the near future?

Thanks,
Levon

By the way your products look extremely well built!

You can get an e-tune for a fraction of the price of a "pro tune" that shops can charge 300-500 bucks for.

Usually e-tunes go from 150-250 and are better. There are many great tuners here - look here http://www.mazdaspeedforum.org/forum/forum/f601/

no freebies. You can get Cobb OTS maps (off the shelf) but they aren't the best

@jbarone; Has @Lex; Stratifed OTS maps that are specially tuned for these intakes..read up a bit and do some research, I *guarentee* you will find out anything you need to know about the PP S2.

Agreed with the above you can get an e-tune. Stratified OTS Maps are a good beginning for these PP Intakes. Hell you can even get on a list with @Lex; to get stratified tuned and you'll already be halfway there with a stratified OTS Map.

Edit: JBR SRI PP S1 and S2

Thanks for helping @levon.mark; out here guys...

If I may add....

Best value and free shipping, free tunes by Stratified that are specific to our intakes and that are way better then the COBB maps. No other vender has a no CEL guarantee either. I'm confident you won't be disappointed.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,
Jamie

Yep, free shipping even to Anchorage. 7-10 days at the outside. Depends a bit on weather up there too. I'd put on some snow shoes and deliver it myself but I'm not much for the cold.

I came from a 09 WRX and it is completely different path to modding than the engine in the mazdaspeed line. Most people left the intake alone on subaru's until they got as far as either bigger turbo or external wastegate and upgraded fueling.

My WRX had a downpipe on in a couple weeks after owning it, it'll be the last mod I do to my speed.

I also used to think Cobb's OTS maps were the bees knees. You're starting out in the right direction with JBR parts and Lex OTS maps (wish this was out before I bought my intake). Just make sure to read a bit more on how to take care of fueling in the direct injection world before buying stuff out of order.
JBR likes this.

So far I already have my rmm and rear diff mount coming in, and Ill be doing all fluid flushes, since I am almost at 60k.

Well, I kinda like to build cars like pyramids, slow and with a strong ass base.

I started with all three JBR motor mounts, Autotech fuel pump internals, and an accessport. Then intake and inlet pipe, downpipe/testpipe, and intercooler upgrade in any order you feel you would want. It's really up to you what you want, I don't wanna say my way is the way to go but I like to take the slow and steady approach.

I've been looking around, and by far I like what JBR has to offer more than everyone else. That being said, I will be ordering the power path stage 2 intake and RMM from him soon! I am also getting the AT internals. Once I get all that installed I plan on purchasing an AP and
maybe even get an e tune on here. Does that sound like the right way to go for short term power gains!? Any input would be much appreciated.

get ap and internals at the same time. no point in having one without the other.

Jbr has a pretty good rep for a pretty good reason. trustworthy company to spend your money with.

The Stage 2 intake and a motor mount are certainly great places to start and AP and internals are not required to run our intake. The AP and internals however, will really allow you to take advantage of the kick ass tunes we offer for our intakes from Stratified. No other manufacturer offers tunes specifically for their intakes, only the same old tunes are available for all the others with MAF calibrations applied.

What makes you think theirs no point? Autotechs aren't mechanically superior to stock? Just because you can't tune doesn't mean you can't be safe.

You save a bunch of money getting both at the same time and you have to have the internals to go any further, so might as well

I'd say get the intake and acessport (& and stick a tune on the car with the intake on ), then internals. It's better on that route, then when you go for bigger mods, get the internals.

Totally...And Lex from Stratified did such a sweet job with these maps too. Really strong, real smooth power. With internals, the Stage 2 maps are off the hook; love it and I run it on our our own shop cars.

I don't suspect it's be a problem but, I think @Lex; would be better suited to answer that question.

The maps are designed to be safe. If you are knocking using the 91 octane map you are likely knocking using the OEM Mazda map as well - probably more so. At the same time reported fuel octane is not always accurate. We have 94 here but it's on par with 91 in the US.

Load the map and take some WOT logs after the car is warm and monitor KR. If you are consistently seeing above 2* at WOT then it's a good idea to look into how to increase the fuel octane you are using.

pure power mod path (on stock turbo):

JBR Stage 2 Intake
AP/internals
Catless Test Pipe (lower downpipe)
Stage 2 Stratified OTS Tune
Step Colder Plugs

yes, an upgraded TMIC is nice. an FMIC is nice. a upper downpipe is nice. but they are all expensive and you can get similar power easier, and cheaper, going with the above route.

which means with your JBR intake and Strat OTS tune, you'll be well on your way. i'm sure you know the price of the AP. internals will run you around $350 while a catless test pipe will run you about $150.

and of course, non-power mods like mounts, bushings, OCCs, etc. are always a good idea.

Don't be afraid of buying things used... Got my TMIC used for $150.. damn good price! Got my JBR SSP for $50 as well used!

used is totally fine. but even still, get the parts i listed first (if you just want more power). an upgraded TMIC (new or used) isn't going to do more for you than the mods listed in that post. that's all i was getting at.
