Default Rmm issues

So went to install my rmm today. When really smoothly minus the factory bolt through the bushing. For some reason my bolt has a nut that you have to thread in which I am pretty sure other speed 3's don't have from looking at how to threads and vids. Anyone have sudgestions for me? I am pretty sure that nut was just a getto rig mod from the last owner but I am not sure. Also can I move my car to a shop with out the rmm secured to the frame?

Looks like someone cross-threaded/stripped the bolt that was built into the frame and just put a nut on top instead of re-threading it.

If possible just reattach it and baby it to get it fixed. Don't drive without a RMM.

I would take a flashlight and inspect the threads in that fixed blind nut in the frame. like @kby; said it could be stripped out. Or the previous over may have misplaced the OEM bolt and ghetto rigged that bolt in there stocking out or something. After inspecting the threads if they don't look like there all chewed up, jacked up and cross threaded I would try and find out what the specs of that OEM bolt are and try and get that bitch to work.

The nut on top idea is a good temp fix and could be OK. But i wouldn't know for sure. Im gonna go with its NOT good but thats just my .02.

I think its just a matter of its not normal.. End of story haha. I wouldn't go through the trouble of ordering the bolt through mazda when you could probably research the specs on that bolt itself and pick one up for cheap at a hardware store.

Im about 100% sure that bolt is not the OEM bolt.

If its cross threaded throw your ghetto rig back in for the time being. Get the right bolt. Take it easy and Take it to an auto shop near by. They should be able rethread it so you can pop the right bolt in there.

Question, where is the bolt that mount had in it that mounts the RMM to the trans bracket? It should have threaded right into the other side of the RMM pictured in the OP.

The picture is of the stock mount and the bolt is the bolt that came out of the bushing/ subframe side not the rmm/trans mount side

Get at the very least a grade 6 bolt. Remember that thing is holding your motor to the frame... What you should do IF those threads are stripped is get a bolt and 2 nuts. Tighten the first nut down and then the second (second could be a lock nut). Good luck!

I asked that question @blake0521; because I'm pretty sure the bolt that is used to attach the OEM RMM to the trans bracket are the same exact specs. With maybe a minor difference in length.

Don't quote me on this, but I think they may be a different thread pitch. Or I may be thinking of a different bolt. I remember something weird where I started the wrong bolt into the wrong hole and it started cross threading.

So I am going to write a how to on this because that was so shitty hahaha. So I got a grade 8 bolt and ran it through the super blown out threads and into a nut with red lock tight. Then torqued to 70 ft lbs and called it a day. The threads actully held the new bolt but since the were fucked up I put an extra nut on there for security. Will be re torquing it next week after my meet and will report if I lost any tension.

you could have drilled out the mangled sub frame threads and put in a helicoil.

Also the previous owner put in RMM inserts, the blue pieces are not stock. Unless you put those in.

I know it's too late for you but to have the info out there @Travisms3; had to replace that bolt this past weekend and will know the specs. And after that experience he can tell you first hand that, yes, you can drive without a rmm bolt.

M12, 1.25 thread, 2.5 or 3 inch long.

I don't recommend driving with out the rmm. It feels like your engine is coming through the fire wall, but I did it unknowingly for a couple weeks.

to be fair I think it was there at least in some way for most of that time. You said when you came over that it felt a lot worse that day, I'm guessing you had just lost that bolt at that point. But still you made it to my place on 1.5 mounts so that's impressive.

No I found the bolt in my tool box so it was off since the turbo swap. I just think the pmm started to deteriorate more

I am pretty sure that nut was just a getto rig mod from the last owner but I am not sure. Also can I move my car to a shop with out the rmm secured to the frame?
i bet he lost the OEM bolt and used that bolt which is likely thinner and went right through the frame and he used a nut like he said jsut to stock out, get the proper thread bolt and try to thread it into the frame like its supposed to be

EDIT: i forgot to mention that that thinner bolt moving around in the good threads could have damaged the threads in some way and honestly this thread should be in the general support section

One of those bolts from something down there (can't remember what) fits, but is the wrong thread. It won't snug or anything, but goes through and "threads" in.
