alright ...car is set..wga adjusted and locked down. mbc has softer spring and ball and will start running wg spring pressure to see what wot does on logs.....

as far as the person that blew up it was hnda etr ... he swapped ko4 for pg reworked... did some runs last night and car pulled strong... today idk what happened but he shot up to 24psi and now has some serious fucken head noise... no hole in block. idle car sounds normal...but step on it a hair and u hear rattling up on the top end... compression is 145-160-160-160.... ill let him add to thsi if he wants.... but pretty demoralizing so ill do what i can to help

if you will leave the lock nut lose on the wga arm it is easily adjustable from the top of the car. Leave it lose for like a week or two until you get everything dialed in. It can't turn by itself.

i wonder if he had a boost source to his wastegate pop off, this has happend to alot of people....

make sure you somehow secure all vac lines to and from the turbo. one popping off (especially on the atp turbos, they only have one line on the actuator), the boost will skyrocket.

I wasnt planning on messing with my wg arm. But maybe I need to look into this.

As for hnda etr..fuck...Hope in the end that its not a bad prab,though it sounds like it is. Ill will pray to the cargods that his car will be fine. I too have heard the vac lines poping off and causing insane boost. Is it that people are not clamping them down?

zip tie everything guys...esp if you are using silicone hose

if its close to heat use heat resistant ties...

@ zx2

factory set preload on the ATP should net you around 12PSI pressure from my test. Loosen it up and you end up with ~11...tighten all the way ~14 BUT that isn't a stable way to leave it...much boost occiliation...

if the noise Roy is having is topside toward the passenger side he may have busted his VVT, which in turn may have bent some valves. if this is the case a much better outcome than a VTA block experience.

Peter North FTW....get you some heat resist ties for the WGA nipple...gets hot down there...

Tefzel ties 300* operating temp..they only come in ghey blue and teal but they are good chit.

Heat stabilized nylon 257* and come in any color...

ok...had to wait for my son to get out of school to go drive around.

mbc turned all the way to zero leaves me with 15psi in 2nd.. 16psi in 3rd and about 16.5psi in fourth.... zero spike zero creep.

its still daylinght and too many cars so i wont log until tonight. the car feels decent... i dont expect much with 15-16psi only i just want to get everything dialed in before i start messing with boost. incidentally once i had fixed wga i turned the mbc one click down and went out... touched..and i mean touched the gas in 2nd gear and fucken spun like it was on water.... i let off soon as i saw 21psi in 2nd and went back to soft spring and zero d out.

egts are so much lower its not even funny...im talking about 2-300 degrees lower.

ill take some below pics...right now im super tired, i took a couple lame ones from top. u can see a tapped silicone coupler for boost source. , u can also see how the cpe inlet doesnt actually mate up to the end of the machined turbo inlet. but its there and no leaks.

ill add more shit as i go along.

so all it was was the WGA preload??

my CPE inlet is a POS as well and looks about like yours...you'ed expect better from them...What is another 1/4 inch of material gonna cost.

edit: better get that boost source zip tied! I know it fits tight but well worth the .5 minutes to throw one on there.

one thing worth mentioning i had to clock my turbo and cut firewall shielding off to clear the nipple from it...or wouldnt have been able to put a vacuum line on it

so we took off the valve cover and took a look around... physically, everything looks fine... we cranked the motor over (without coils attached) to look at the cams and valve buckets and vtc and everything looked fine - no collapsed valves, no physical damage to the VTC or cams...

So I button everything up and fired it up to see if the clattering sound is still there - yup... only now I can feel the clutch pedal vibrating when I let it out almost all the way...

so looks like it's a bent rod... FML...

Not sure what I'm gonna do at this point...

lenny called me (that's right, he actually called me). he said, i have good news and bad news.

Yeah sucks Balls for Hndr etr....but looks like hes got a option sitting in his driveway. Maybe one of your rods was already tweaked, and that 24 psi of love did it in, who knows. But best of luck to you in getting your car up and running.

Lenny-Looking good, thanks for taking pics, and looking for further progress. Is that the ideal location for the boost source? Do you make a pre-hole first? ie like pre-drill.

Move the boost source to the intake manifold and you will have more consistant boost, that my suggestion. My boost holds the same in every gear. Also when I turn my bc all the way down its at 12psi I believe. Glad to hear all is well.

zx2 ..yes u gotta drill the coupler or tap the compressor housing and get a bronze one threaded in there. i waited until everything was in place before drilling.... i like to do things in order and drilling prior didnt seem prudent... plus i tried keeping the vacuum lines as short as possible for the mbc.

alright took some more pics from the bottom where u can actually see the turbo. i also got some of the ko4 v2 I had on there .

U will see all the stainless lines, the one water line i was to lazy to cut to size so i just looped it... it clears the dp and the axle so it just looks funky but works perfect.

got pics of the bracket and worked like a fucken charm...was able to push it up there to desired height and bolt it down tight... the turbo feels super solid there

u can also see where i had to cut a lil off the firewall heat shielding (the metal one not that cardboard one) just to clear and give the wga some room..... (zx2 remember u might run into issues man.... clocking the turbo was perfect)

also I took a pic of the axle seal we replaced.

all in all i am super content that everything seems in order... im pretty bummed roy is feeling the opposite...but you know we will help u figure this shit out man.

theres the shielding i cut off... at the point i cut it it really isnt blocking the brake lines so fuck it

hope i can help anyone trying to go for an atp iwg set up..... i see no issues with this set up... turbo spool is quick... there is no creep... no spike.... just super fun turbo.

as the weeks go ill be getting some help tuning this and ill post some results. .... dont expect dynos.... i never go to them., i have my own views on that scene..... when the time comes ill dyno it by trap speed....

BTW...only way CPE can fix their POS inlet is to re-tool their mold...I had forgotten all about my anger with this...I expected more from CPE...oh well no vendor is perfect...thanks for bringing it back to the surface Lenny

I guess a 3071 is enough bigger to require cutting the shielding from the firewall. I didn't need to do that and I think I have 1/2 inch to spare...

Anthony,

The CPE inlet bottoms out on the inside taper in the inlet before the outside bottoms out on the turbo flange. You end up with just enough surface contact between the inlet pipe and turbo flange to just barely get the clamp down. If it isn't lined up just right it will come off. When mine is lined up good enough to clamp the inlet is not even square with the turbo flange.

12PSI is also what I saw with factory ATP preload.

ok, here some more pics of the day.

here s the turbo in car b4 the inlet.... u can see there is plenty of room to get that inlet on there and it not leak... just looks like complete shit.



heres a nice shot of my tits and gut.... oh ya... I forgot to mention...because the inlet is such a bad fit and the metal insert/reducer is so fucken odd shaped I had to cut the sri about an inch short for the bracket to line up.....



here s the awesome insert/reducer..... makes it great having a ring basically that the clamp needs to fit perfectly over to seal....(<<< insert sarcasm here)
