zero spikes, zero creep with mbc lol

we'll see how the ebc set up goes....

ill do a couple of 4th gear pulls tonight and post em , wont be anything impressive... I ll set the boost to around 19-20 and we can see what we see...the logs look seriously just like my ko4 did, just added flow.... richer AFR and a bit lower timing.

ok, here are 3 logs. 2 4th gear wot pulls and one 5th gear wot pull..... until I get used to the car and stop fearing boom boom I sort of roll into the throttle rather than stab at it.

anyways, this is my old ko4 map just running it on my 3071... AFR kinda rich, timing is decent but not super advanced..... I mean basically the car runs the same way....except faster.

all logs were done at 19psi.... keep in mind that with this same map and the ko4 boosting 21+psi I never saw more than 250 gm/s or so.

hopefully with some tuning I can land around 350whp which is my goal.

4th gear log 19psi.csv

4th gear wot 19psi.csv

5th gear wot 19psi.csv

like i stated, by no means am I the benchmark of what this turbo can do.... so do not try to compare to the results of others for 2 reasons a) I am untuned b) worn fucken motor with most likely low compression

either way, I am pretty fucken impressed the kinda power these fucken turbos can make.....I m gonna have me some fun hunting down races

remember lenny, your maf g's are only accurate if your maf is properly calibrated.

but, looking at your LTFT before you hit it hard, your maf is relatively close.

From a unit operations standpoint, catch cans are just demisters.

The baffles are essentially just coalesing pads that give a high surface area surface with low pressure drop for mists to hit/combine into drips and fall to the bottom instead of carry over with the bulk of the air.

In my current facility, we use a high density plastic mesh for this function, but anything that won't corrode will work.

Why so rich on meth lenny? YOur leaving a bunch of power on the table. It would be nice to see your fp's holding in the 1800s! otherwise looks decent.

Where are you currently working? I have quite a bit of experience in chemical plants all over North America. Would be funny to find out we've crossed paths.

well thats just how it landed.....besides for initial running , to establish that boost isnt nuts, nor timing, nor anything weird a nice margin of safety is good. i havent done jack to the map also

looks like a pretty solid start for an OTS map.

timing is flatlined at 7.5 in the meat so much room for improvement there hahaha, I am now a timing expert....not

so I have been an advocate for EBC boost control from day one and I am glad to see that you are giving it a try...I need to look back and see if all those quotes of yours to me about MBC MBC MBC are still there and compile them into one post hahaha

Believe it or not, I just about have my Grimmspeed EBC fine tuned with no boost occiliations. It was a long road trying to figure out the ECU logic but once I threw out all the Boost tables, via tuning them out, I narrowed my efforts down to the Load Dynamics table which has all but eliminated my occiliation...I am guessing 2 more map revisions and I'll have it nailed down. [famous last words here] This timing stuff has slowed progress but I am done with timing for now.

All that to say I have absolutely no doubt Christian can make you want to sell your hallman in a week or two of tuning the EBC.

Enjoy the fun!

How much timing headroom do you think he has Dan? I see a little knock creep in near that 5500 point.

yes the KR is consistently there at 5-5.5k so I doubt he could go up there but as I had to do, he could lower advance prior to 5K so that he keeps advancing through that RPM??

note that I phrased that answer as a question because I was being totally sarcastic about knowing chit about timing

so is it better to flatline timing to quell KR or is it better to lower timing prior to the KR and let timing advance thru the event??

Edit: BTW around 4.5 K is where I was flatlining advance at 8* to kill the KR so an answer to my above question is of great interest to me as well.

Edit 2: I could live with .7 KR there as long as the sensor was turned on above that point...right now that .35 could increase to .7 or 1.0 above 5.7K in the very next cell but we don't see it.

ya from what i calculated based on my logs from old vs now, and jcms07s new s2 bnr logs and his dyno I figured about that same number lol the car feels great, its hard to describe without sounding like everyone else, but the fucker pulls pulls pulls and then u hit 7k lol ..... spool up is quick and even...im loving it , I just want to get a solid 350whp map and be done..... that lil mbc knob is pretty fucken tempting !!!!!!!!!!!!!

aaron asked me this morning, do u wish u would have gotten a 28 or a 76 rather?...no way, this turbo is perfect.

i am enjoying the fun, timing i can never have as much as u guys...my car loves knocking... but for my goals i think i have more than enough turbo to get a super safe tune ...might require more boost and less timing to keep that KR from showing its face

also guys, why did load logging change from % to now 1.xx or w/e..... i never changed any pid on the data log list and now it reads 1.xx rather than 180-210 or w/e...

Lenny, torque is what kills. Your doing a smart thing by going bt. Your EGT comment alone shows how strained the k04 was in higher rpms (way out of its efficiency)... and we all know who quick the boost comes on with it.

If your really concerned, be sure to tell christian. He'll keep the power in the upper rpms for you.

ya definitely , I know you guys think its overcaution or w/e, but I am not exaggerating when I tell you that I beat the shit out of my car... I have proven it with my cracked turbo, beat to shit clutch, logs of KR at the strip etc etc.....

and since I never really floor it until at least 3700 how well or powerful the car runs below that is completely inconsequential to me

but i will surely address my concerns to xtian.... besides he has never struck me as a super agressive tuner that likes to take chances..... I have dealt with him before when we were developing the 1.01 maps and shit.... he s good peeps.

I know i would blow my car up with a BT because of how i drive my car.. i like boost and i like it down low for starters. If you can get the boost spikes tamed with the EBC, then its going to have to be standard for everyone to go this route for the map to be compatible. Perhaps a comprehensive big turbo FAQ is now in order.

well like I said, I was fine with just going with mbc and just tuning AFR and timing.... but I dont give a shit about tuning for gears, nor do we have such drastic weather changes, nor am I that picky.

but, the leading Cobb tuner says he was confident in his ability to tune BT cars with oem bc that I cannot ignore what he said.... soon as we begin I'll share what we find.

I just wanna pop a wheelie in a car again, is that too much to ask for?

I'm pretty confident in "xtian's" abilities with the ECU controlling boost.
I've discussed these things many times with him, trey, and calvin. All very knowledgeable about this platform.

I'm ready to go BT but hesitate on my 106k motor without building up the extra motor I have. I don't want to pull out a perforated block.

I havent been on MSF in some time, but this thread has really peaked my interest, keep it up lenny!

thanks alan.... i had to do a double take the other day in shout.... u dropped out for a while, i figured the law caught up to u and were doing time. lol

yeah i dont know what to tell u about 106k miles..... i have 80k.... and i burn a good qt of oil every 3-3500 miles.... so my 80k might be more worn than your 106k... really depends how hard u drive it. u been around long enough to know that the smart choice is always to build it first.... but , money, impatience etc etc makes us do dumb shit.

i think and hope this turbo is large enough where it doesnt generate enough low end grunt to bend shit and on the other side I will keep it at 350whp just to leave myself a margin of error... bending rods is one thing... there are alot of other ways to go boom boom with high mile cars.... so thats my plan, but u guys can bet that as soon as i feel more comfortable and the tune gets dialed in, im gonna treat it like before.... beat the living shit out of it..its the only way.

im just teasing! good to see it going well !

i hear their is some gay rear wheelie bars, for front wheel drives to help keep the rear from squatting so bad, to help hook up the front end...
