Build your block. And you wont make power with a big turbo without the standback and flashes. Even with a 35r on a cobb ap you wont break into the 400s.

that turbo is big.
i'm not speaking from experience, so please take this post with a grain of salt.
but i think you will have turbo lag.
our cars can't wind up the engine into rpms high enough to fully take advantage of a gt35.
OR A 40 FOR THAT MATTER, mark...

35r is not a big turbo. I'd rather run a DBB 6262 cuz you would get better spool and more power

That was directed at PhaillyB.........guess I should have been more specific. But I do have a Fidanza Lightweight flywheel I haven't put on that I might be willing to part with.

IWG= boost creep unless its ported. ATP has fixed their creep problems I beleve on the 2871/3071/3076 kits by porting the WG.

oh an some like the horrific sound an EWG gives if VTA. Buddy of mine has an LGT with a custom turbo setup and EWG-VTA. I don't like it at all and we are dumping it back into his DP this weekend.

Edit: BTW he has a spare brand new in the box Tial 38MM EWG he might part with. It's purple but still a good piece. I think he bought if from a girl LOL!

Well it will help with the car revving faster but not with the spooling of the turbo so much. The stock turbo spools really early between 2000-2500 rpm and can hit full boost before 3000 rpm and drops off in the higher RPM's. Something the size of the 35R probably wont even start spooling good till about 3500 rpm but will hold boost better later in the RPM's(I dont have one but from what I've seen it seems to be about right). But that can actually be a good thing if your running to redline anyways the RPM's arent gonna drop below that. Also the K04 spools so early it seems to put a strain on the rods that spooling later doesn't seem to do.

Well the early GT turbos seemed to have a problem with boost creep. But supposedly Garrett has ported the IWG more than it was which should help that problem. I myself will be going EWG in the future when as I just prefer it myself. Having the AP I believe you may have a little more boost tunability using an external wastegate in conjunction with a EBCS like either Grimmspeed or Perrin.

and a big PITA to route back to the DP if you don't like VTA and I'll bet you'll get tired of it real quick. I am researching a new turbo and I'll only make the jump if I can go IWG. You are on a built motor though and going bigger turbo so EWG may be your only choice. I am looking at a BNR Stage 2 or ATP 2871.

Edit: For best performance you need to route the EWG pipe downstream of the cat so again PITA.

Well you could always put a muffler on the screamer pipe to quiet it down quite a bit before going to the trouble of routing it back into the DP. I imagine you could find several lawnmower mufflers that might work.

Edit: For best performance you need to route the EWG pipe downstream of the cat so again PITA.
i heard they r coming out with a stage 3 soon or its just bout to be out...but what ur sayin if i want high power i will have to go ewg?

A lot of people here lately seem to be using the ACT clutch setup here lately. Not sure if its better or not or whether people have been just getting the wrong Spec clutch or what. But here is what I do know if you get the Fidanza lightweight flywheel it will NOT work with the ACT clutch and the ACT flywheel will not work with the SPEC clutch. Spec does not make a flywheel for our cars so Fidanza is the best option. I think the Spec 3+ clutch is the right one for your setup rather than just the plain 3 as I think the + clutches give better driveability.

I don’t' know enough to say one way or the other but the more exhaust you push thru the turbo the harder it will be to get out of the relatively smaller IWG compared to a 38 or 44mm EWG. Someone else on here will chime in and clear it up.

Your 400whp goals will not be held back by running IWG, BUT they will be held back by not having a standback and flashes from cpe.

With what you have I believe you will be able to hit 400 whp.......BUT......CPE seems to have the HP advantage right now over COBB as they are the only tuning solution to actually cross over that mark in the sand.........BUT.......JJ has a pretty radical build that was done by DCR that he is fixing to get tuned at COBB in Utah so wee shall see how it goes. But something tells me if when he gets tuned they can't go over 400 your going to see the price on used COBB AP's drop radically and the price for a used CPE SB go up.

thats what i was afraid of...i keep hearing about it and the full management by cpe...so iwg wont hold me back at all from goin 400...btw might sound pretty stupid to ask but im asking it...what if i went and got the 35r...later on down the road couldnt i just remove the iwg and weld it shut with a plate and hook up a ewg?

Yes you could do that but it will be less expensive and time consuming to do it from the get go. As a exh. manifold would probably be less expensive to have made with the EWG flange built on it rather than having to weld it on later and also welding up the IWG. Also dont forget about the time consumption of removing the exh. manifold and reinstalling it back yet again. If you go either route I would highly recommend getting the manifold and the hotside of the turbo ceramic coated as it will help hold down underhood temps.

So you want to know what you will need is that it? Okay well you'll need an exhaust manifold that is setup for EWG (I believe that DNP and PTP both have them that way now). A EWG and I would suggest a TIAL either a 38 or 44mm with a 14 or 15 pound spring in it. you will also need a EBCS there are two you can go with either Perrin or Grimmspeed. The Grimmspeed is PNP but the Perrin has to be splced in but you could buy a plug from Grimmspeed to make the Perring PNP also. You will need to get a screamer pipe made that is either VTA or routed back into the DP. You may also have to have new oil lines and water lines run as the OEM ones may be to short.

You can get a turbo w/o water cooling but I don't recommend it myself, you can also get journal bearing over ball bearings but I also dont recommend that. To me though the big thing to decide when your getting ready to order your turbo and FMIC is knowing what you want to do and ordering appropriately. In other words make sure you order the turbo that meets what you want it to do and that it is in its maximum efficiency range while doing it. Same thing with the FMIC make sure it is sized right to meet your HP needs while at the same time its not to big as it may add to your turbo lag if it is.

Tried the muffler on the LGT w screamer = creep. The muffler was too restrictive and was from some motor cross bike or the like.

Edit: oh and the LGT was only running a VF39 which is a factory STI turbo so anything like OP is wanting to run would def not work with a muffler. It is either VTA or route to the DP past the cat.

Why cant you with the AP?............is it the turbo isnt very compatable with the AP or just the belief that AP sucks?......The reason why I ask if my tuner Tim Baily has tuned 500 whp sti's,400 whp wrx's,600 whp Nissan GT-Rs,500 whp evo's,450 whp Legacy Gt's and so on..True to best of my knowledge He hasnt done a 400 whp ms3 yet, but thats only cause he hasnt worked with a ms3 that has the mods to do so yet..to me the Cobb AP seems like a very capable performer...Now im not trying to piss on anyone using ther SB either..ive heard alot of good things..and I run Cp-e products on my car-great company...gave my car to Tim and with just a Cobb catted downpipe-cobb intake and ETS 3.5 tmic I made 296 whp and 322 wtq on a mustang dyno withy 0 knock..super safe afr's and a conservative 17 psi tune..maybe Im overlooking some shit..but The Cobb AP seems like a pretty good platform to tune cars. Thanks

There is a load cap in the Mazda ECU that Cobb hasn't been able to get past yet. Yeah they can do it with just about any other car but not ours. I think their ProTuners tune around the cap to a certain extent but can't get over 400 IIRC. I am running with the mods in my sig and I had to work around the load cap to maintain consistant AFR and boost. The cap doesn't appear to effect everyone but the numbers are signifiant.

ECU Load cap shattered!

I think only CP-E can consistantly produce big numbers.

Now don't get me wrong I love my AP and will probaly not need to go to something else. I think it's like this.

Stock to fully bolted = AP
Anything more = SP + flashes

He means the CP-E StandBack + a couple of flashes that work with it.
