That aluminum radiator is so nice! Since your build is so well thought out, I hope you don't mind if I geek out for a minute and ask a couple of questions...

1) What oil do you plan on using once everything is broken in?

2) Will you be adding any kind of baffles to help guide airflow to your radiator and intercooler? It seems like a lot of people ditch the factory one when they go front mount, not a lot of people have tried to fab them up for their cars.

Once it's broken in I'll use T6 Rotella. I need to find a place to get ZDDP up here though.
As for baffles, I have thought about sealing the back of the bumper to the end tanks of the intercooler to force air through rather than around, and I'll remove the ducting that would normally feed the top mount, and see what I can do about re-directing towards the rad. I believe corksport has a solution for this.

I installed all new valve seals tonight.
Checked tappet clearances, and I have a couple that are on the loose side of spec on the intake, and then a couple that are too tight for spec on the exhaust side.
Luckily, all the tappet markings are quite close in size to each other. I'm hoping I can swap some around. I'll mic them all when I'm home from the long weekend and see what I can put where.

The accelerations are higher at the top and bottom of the stroke because all four pistons are stopping at the same time. The flywheel is the component that smooths out that effect to some extent. The balance shaft is there for secondary-phase vibrations.

This paragraph is what I was trying to get at... The piston motion isn't actually sinusoidal, so the forces at top and bottom are not the same, causing vibration.

"The motion of the piston is approximately sinusoidal, and therefore so too are the acceleration

most conrods are approximately twice the crankshaft stroke in length. This relative shortness of the

In short, yes, the balance shaft is there because infinite-length connecting rods are impossible, and the piston speeds are always changing, causing second-order harmonic issues.

Did you use the SST installing the Balance Shaft? And were the original shims used again and in spec?

It came out it a brand new block long enough to put the rods in and went right back in.
