Kenne bell boost a spark

Got my BAS in the mail the other day and had a few questions if anyone might know the answer to em. Its in cabin adjustable from 0-50% boost in spark and it has 2 wires meant for boost sensing so it can kick in only under boost conditions and not be running full spark all the time, my question is, does the hks unit react only under boost, or is it giving a full increase in spark the whole time? since it supposesdly improves mileage and such, i'd think its giving full spark boost the entire time, but maybe it puts out more or less givin different variables. any input is appreciated!

ok here is the how to, with a little test @ the beginning.
i pulled my plugs, and replaced them, and gaped them @ 42 thou

it made a major difference in my situation, smoother idle, crisper acceleration, and no missing!! what a huge difference!

im so excited!!

ok first i tested the battery !



this is with it hooked up, with the switch off



on 0, in boost switch satisfied



on 10



on 20



0n 30



on 40



on 50



testing is done it works! any way that gives you an idea how it works it has everywhere in between for ajustment!

a little velcro



and placed it



boost switch



boost switch, and vacuum hose, and tee



assembled



cut the line to my boost gauge



installed the boost switch in line



wires h/u from the bas



grounded bas



wires routed



adjustment knob in glove box



2nd wire on the bottom of the plug to the left, it is green



quick continuity test



back side of the plug



cut this wire, and the end that goes into the harness, is hooked to the non fused red wire off the bas



now the end that comes off the plug, is wired to the fused red wire from bas




here are the plugs im running

cleaner spark can improve mileage, not alot but somewhat, i need to order the switch from kenne bell. rigor pm me with the how to on one of the things! gracias!

I'm curious about the long term on this thing as well. It's nice to know there is a def alternative to the HKS that costs close to half the price. I just fear the before mentioned "melting of coils" and keep in mind that the coils are connected directly to the ecu, so nasty spikes through the system could wind up being very costly.... Not to say that stuff is def going to happen, just being skeptical....

they have been around about 11 years or longer, so i dont think that is a problem, and it only juices the coils under boost! and you can choose how much added voltage you need by a dial from 12-20V

This ignition kit has been in use for a long time I really dont think spikes are possible, there should be something implemented in the hardware to avoid something like that, not to mention there is a fuse inline.

I agree that there probably aren't spikes to worry about if it has been around for awhile it was probably properly engineered, but fuses don't protect against voltage spikes. They protect circuits from drawing too much power (amps). Probably integrated into ckt is a filter (think capacitor and coil for example) to prevent spikes and noise..just saying

yeah i wasn't really clear on exactly where the fuse was in relation to the coils and their wires leading into the ecu just by going off that diagram drawn above - i guess i'd like to see either some real pics or the install instructions -
and just b/c the company has experience amping up coil packs on other cars that may or may not have a can-bus setup like we do where everything goes in and out of the main ecu doesn't mean it's 100% full proof on our car
msd has been around forever - a few years ago i was installing a simple shift light and made a few wiring mistakes and toasted my ecu, along with a coil, and my maf - granted they were my mistakes, but anything is possible when messing with this type of stuff.......

just to note i think the MS6 has a separate control box for the CP's compared to the MS3 having them directly connected to the ECU.

Just put in a diode so it can't back feed the pcm if your worried about spikes.

it has to have one ^^ or a couple anyway they have been out for years on boosted fords and their on fuel injected cars ,so they has computer too

Yup,I kind of figured that it would have it installed I've delt with kenne bell before they're pretty awesome. By the way, I love the intercooler.

LOL well they need to take a basic electrical class if they think the voltage going to the coils is a AC Voltage type of system. The voltage going through the BAS as well as to the pump could not suddenly change direction. It is a DC (direct current) electrical system, the voltage flows one way negative to positive. If this was the case it would do it stock even without the BAS, blowing up computers. They are looking too far into it we have never had a PCM fail from the BAS. All we are doing is increasing the amount of voltage going to the COILS using the stock wiring nothing else. Plus the system is protected by minimum two fuses and a relay it would pop those before damaging the PCM, IF the voltage/current could change direction. Hope this helps,

He should prob pick up a basic electrical book considering dc is the movement of electrons which flow from neg to pos not pos to neg.

HAHA I was going to say the same thing, that electrons flow from negative to positive source. DC says it all direct current, not direct voltage lol..oh well I still think he made a decent point as far as protection

The injectors on the MS6 have a separate driver, the coils are driven by the ECM just like the MS3

The +12v wire on the MS3 and MS6 is green at the coils... You should be able to trace the individual wires back to the junction in the harness, but make sure you get just the coils... The diagram for the MS3 shows the power wire for the condenser as the same color and coming from the same junction...

OK I traced the 4 green wires to the junction in the middle of the wiring harness

The 4 wires go in, then 2 wires come out. So which is which? I tried looking through the manual but I must be dumb and can't find shit.

The red arrow is one of the green wires that goes towards the cdfp area.
The orange arrow goes to the orange box.

According to the posted instructions..

All you need to do is disconnect the four green coil wires from the main bundle..

The output of your BAS connects to those four wires running to the coils...

The input to the BAS get connected to the green wire(s) running back into the main bundle..
