Just saying the bend and turbulence gives false readings so tuning around a false reading may not be the way you want to go. Same way if you had an exhaust leak before your wide band sensor saying you were lean so you kept adding fuel to compensate and end up flooding your engine with fuel instead.

I'm not just hating here it's a legit concern. What ever just keep it in mind if you ever have some gremlins poping up and need a place to start looking.

I'll keep it in mind, but i really don't think the bend is as aggressive as it looks. And the sensor is damn near at the filter (just like my last intake).

I know how to tune though, so if such an issue arises, i'll recognize it. Can't be any worse than Joel's blow through pipe hahaha. That was 100% unmanageable. His new one should be much much better though.

You should do a setup like this (or similar) for a speed3! You know, just to cover all the bases.
I think I happen to know someone who has a speed 3 you could use...

Holy fucking shit, Dustin, you're doing that on fucking stock internals? That's like drinking sulfuric acid without a truckload of Pepto on hand.

Awesome shit, though. Just don't die or go into orbit before I bring you my car for a tune.

REALLY GREAT JOB!!! your work looks really good man! check your power steering fluid also for noise, ticks.... make sure it isnt low if you had to drain it for some reason.

I was going to say the same thing... stock internals? No forged pistons, RODS, etc? Roll the dice if your rods are weak, or weaking on stockers..... Nice stuff though. Go easy on it for a bit and check compression often after hard pulls....

He's running an oversized turbo with a t4 1.00a/r exhaust housing. Trust me, I know from experience that low end torque will not be overwhelming (:

Respect for your skills
Respect for your patience
Respect for your MS6
Respect for you GF to put up with an autobot like yourself

I hope that turbo scares off any possible gremlins... I did read somewhere mazda gremlins don't like cats so them furry ones might again serve another purpose.
Now how about you give that turbo the perm you promised lol.

Why didn't you route the intake straight to the drivers side? If you're going to remove the hood liner the high pressure area between the hood and the windshield would probably provide some 'cold' air flow to that location?

Agreed. The MAF needs laminar flow to accurately read mass airflow, and the closer you put the MAF to the turbo or a bend, the less laminar the flow will be. The rule of thumb I've been taught is 2 times the MAF diameter from any bend (upstream or downstream), and as far from the turbo (or throttle plate in N/A applications) as possible.

In addition, you may have to rotate the MAF around while tuning to get the best (i.e. most linear) response in relation to engine/turbo RPM's.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating; I just want the car to run as well as possible.

Very Nice DJ.........

As far as the MAF location It looks like the picture distorted how severe the bend is, I think you will be fine

Maybe snap another pic from the other side

Also, what mounts are u running? Im guessing all of them?

This gave me hella drive-ability issues

But this little change made it act right

I mean look wise it doesn't look so drastic but it was all the difference when it came to drive-ability and the way the car acted on boost onset.

The ms3 was cause of the bend and the pic of the Sr20 was cause of house close it was to the turbo. Once the piping got rerouted to the front radiator adding an extra 20 inches no more bucking or stalling or cuts.

Honestly, i just made it like this cause it's pretty similar to how my last intake was. I'm already planning on replacing this intake at some point, so it'll work for the time being.

I'm running an upgraded rear mount and a TT front 4th mount. Pass & Driver side mounts are stock, but the motor doesn't move at all honestly.

I've been driving the car a lil bit since last night (i have a slight oil leak on the feed, so haven't driven too far), but the trims look consistent. I think your totally right that the pic may be exaggerating the bend, cause it's really not that big of a deal.

We'll see, if it causes problems, i'll post up. I'm not too proud to say something didn't work lol. I just haven't seen anything yet to convince me it won't.

When you extended it on the SR20 did you also move the filter farther away from the MAF?

When you look at the cp-e filter on the MS3 you can see the built in velocity stack where the filter connects to MAF housing. This shape helps to smooth out the air and eliminate turbulence. Also when you look at the location of the MAF on your MS3 it was in the middle of the bend where air is going to tend to hug the outside of the bend and miss the MAF sensor altogether. When you look at the location of the MAF on dj's intake it is about 90 degrees to where yours was and closer to the start of the bend. There is a chance there may be some turbulence or noise here but it won't be near as bad as it was in your case.
