This is easy to do in the car if you are wondering. I took off the intake, disconnected the DP and unbolted the turbo bolts only. I picked the turbo up and set it as far to the right by the master cylinder out of the way without disconnecting any feed lines. Some rags, a shop vac with the small hose connector and a real bit for your air grinder will knock this out pretty quick.

so wats the problem with the flanges??? is it the mani is too big for the turbo?? or opposite?

Looks like the opposite. Basically doing a port job on the mani for more flow

If you do this porting..... be 100% certain no shavings fall into the manifold. And i suggest cleanup with a vacuum before putting the turbo back on.

But yeah, certainly looks like a lot of material can be taken out. Def a helpful mod.

I measured a T3 turbo here and the flanges are a perfect match so I guess the turbos vary by quite a bit. I'd rather leave the manifold slightly smaller rather than the other way around though.

Yup. I guess Rob's turbo actually matched the original dimensions pretty close. Must just be a casting variance or something. But it's great to know some can port match if needed

I'm working with someone right now on a top mount for the 3. He just sent pictures and it looks like it will work with some changes to the manifold.

None of my fail was related to being bottom mount turbo, so I don't know if it's worth the trouble of switching, haha. If I had not gone Steed t3 already, I would be all over this. Seeing that I can remove the turbo and manifold together and it only takes 20 min to undo the manifold bolts, it's not the worst thing in the world.

All I got so far was pictures of a 3076 placed between the engine and firewall in what looks like a viable location.
