(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score So I'm probably going to get bashed for this but I've looked everywhere. I bought the new CS drop in turbo since my k04 was pretty much spent, I'm about to put it in but I have one question , do I need a tune if the trurbo and a cai are my only mods ? Reason I ask is because I'm low on money and I can't get the tune right at the moment. Would it be okay to drive for a while until I get an AP ? (Yes I know I should have bought this first) it's a 07 ms3 111,000 miles on it.

Important Notes *Our Mazdaspeed replacement turbocharger requires supporting parts, fueling and tuning to reach 250-450 horsepower. The CorkSport turbocharger does require the use of an aftermarket tune with Versatune or Cobb Accessport. Engine damage can occur without the proper tune and the installation of this turbo. So you will need a tuning solution and don't forget HPFP upgrade

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I don't believe I was bitching i was asking thanks for that input though, and I did do my research and I thought a HPFP isn't needed unless your trying to gain more HP, and I'm going to go ahead and keep the turbo and just wait for the AP and put both in at the same time

But you will need a tune for the CS Turbo, and you definitely need HPFP internals too if you don't have those already. Did you do any reading whatsoever before your purchase, because asking these questions after the fact, I'm guessing not. Sell the CS Turbo, buy an AP and internals, do a lot more reading.

| Not Ranked : 0 score You need alot more than just an AP and hpfp internals to operate safely and efficiently. Good luck to you sir. I would purchase all supporting mods and knock it all out at once. The term "drop in" is referring to ease of installation, not merely functionality.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Honestly if you're tight on cash like you said your best bet is selling that turbo. You will need to buy internals (roughly $350 new) you'll need a tune ($200 give or take) and for it to be tuned you will need an AP (roughly $600? For v3)

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Well I plan on getting the port here very soon, and the turbo in it only smokes once in a blue moon so hopefully I'm safe for a while cause I don't want to sell the CS , once I get the port and maps I'll put it on and then next up will be the hpfp. Any risks running it with just the tune and no hpfp?

| Not Ranked : 0 score Not piling on, but you absolutely MUST have internals and a tune for that turbo, or you will go zoom, zoom, boom. The real purpose of my response is to dispel your statement about K04s not being worth rebuilding. I got about 110,000 out of my stock K04. It never smoked at idle. I used Rotella T-6 and raised idle 200 rpm. It finally just wore out. I got a rebuilt K04 from Works Turbo in Birmingham, AL. They are first class (there are other good companies as well), and K04s are easily rebuilt. I did have to have them put in a new CHRA because I had a broken compressor side vane (wheel hit the housing because of excess shaft wear), so my cost was a bit more. I think the total bill was about $450 for the exchange. Maybe you should return the turbo you have and go with a rebuild, or else not install it until you have both AP and high pressure pump internals. I doubt that AP has an OTS tune for that turbo, so it will be a custom tune, too. Hook up with one of our excellent e-tuners here. Pay to play.

Why is it so difficult to comprehend that the CS turbo is capable of about 170whp/200wtq more than the K04 makes (stock), and that you absofuckinglutely MUST have supporting modifications if you want the motor to survive your next half-brained WOT run?! YOU MUST UPGRADE YOUR HPFP INTERNALS, AND GET A CUSTOM TUNE (NOT AN OTS TUNE) IN ORDER TO SAFELY RUN THIS TURBO.

So, with that out of the way. Don't try to pull the wool over MSF's eyes, and the fountain of knowledge will be at your very disposal. You need a tuning solution, and you need HPFP internals to safely run the CS turbo (or any turbo that is capable of more power than stock). There's your answer.

And if you aren't ever looking for power or any of that, why would you get the CS turbo? Why not just get a used k04, a new ebay k04, something that wouldn't need a tune? Why not try a banjo bolt, different oil, and you might not even smoke anymore.

| Not Ranked : 0 score You're playing with fire, even if you "rarely" go half-throttle. A lot of noobs don't get this - the HPFP won't fail gradually. You won't see signs of it. One minute you'll be fine, then you'll downshift to pass someone, go part-throttle with some boost, and you're sending pieces of engine through the oil pan. Along related lines, DO NOT get into boost below 3,000rpm, especially with the new turbo, as you'll overload and destroy the engine. Now that I've been helpful...

| Not Ranked : 0 score OP, Understand that when you are talking to a person, or group, that has way more knowledge than yourself, that its easy for us to overlook some of what we feel are obvious steps, in this case a turbo upgrade. MSF has told you the required mods. CS may have only told you you needed a tune but that is not the only thing you need. Mods are generally applied in a fairly consistent order no matter what platform you are on so the person over there assumed you would already have said supporting mods before undertaking a turbo upgrade. Skipping from CAI to a larger turbo, is not the correct order and thus CS didn't assume that was what you were doing. sooooooo The bottom line is you need a tuning solution and CDFP upgrade before moving forward. and lets call a spade a spade. you started this thread under false pretenses...you didn't research anything.

People are dicks, because you come here clearly lying about "research" you have done. If you had actually done any, you wouldn't be needing to ask any of these questions that you have asked. Don't be a dick and lie about things, and people in turn won't be a dick when telling you things. And, it's the internet, grow a fucking pair. Do words from random people online really hurt you that much? HPFP, AP, Tune. Yes you need all three.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Just to ask, are you even really sure the turbo is smoking and it just isn't the fact that your PCV valve may be shot? If so, what test did you do to confirm this?

| Not Ranked : 0 score Despite the sarcasm, we all genuinely want you to succeed with your build. The way I see it, and I believe most here will agree, is spend the money on a Cobb AP, hpfp internals, and a tune. If it were me I would upgrade your downpipe at this time to save yourself from going through that situation twice. This will all cost roughly 1500-2000 dollars depending on where you buy, new, used, etc. Or Sell the CS turbo. Selling the turbo should get you all the money you need to purchase the AP and Internals, possibly even enough to repair/replace your K04, if it is necessary. This is all certainly information that you could have found on MSF using google or stickies, in no more than a couple of hours of research. As for suggesting you sell the car. Well, we love these cars more than we love noobs, so we hate to see them suffer. Your welcome.

| Not Ranked : 0 score This is what I'm going to suggest to you. Pull your turbo inlet and check for shaft play. If minimal movement install a banjo bolt and run rotella T6 oil. If still no fix, pick up a PCV valve for $20 and change that out. When that goes you burn oil. Then if you are still burning oil a week after you put the new valve in, you turbo is done. The options at that point are these, rebuild/pick up a used ko4 or install your CS but please for the love of God and for yours and your cars safety install the internals, get an AP, get a tune made for your car ( freek offers amazing tunes for $200)
