Default What intercooler to use for BT

Hey guys,

I'm planning out my big turbo install parts list and I would like to know if there is anyone using the pg fmic with a big turbo set up?

Any input will be appreciated.

Definitely upgrade the core if you go that route. TurboXS has the biggest IIRC.

Yeh, I'm planning to run meth since I already do on my current set up. How good are the Turbo xs intercoolers?

are you going to be meth dependent? imo, get a somewhat smaller IC, meth does enough cooling.

No, I am just currently tuned for 1/3rd meth right now and I will keep it that way for now.

Also another option is to use an upgraded tmic cooler especially if you run meth. I will be running my ets. The core is decent, bigger then some of the kits out there. Just make sure you get a decent sized core. As mentioned above tr8 would be great. tr10's are pretty damn big.

Pretty sure you have to chop up your bumper a fair amount to fit the TR10.

I decided to go with a TMIC after i planned on running meth and couldnt be happier. Helps with sleeper status (if you care) and I didnt want to get salt and all the nasty gunk that gets on the roads up here when it snows.

Yea dropping boost temps below ambient is a total patch up job. Liquid to air doesn't offer that big of a difference. Boost temps will be nearly identical with an upgraded air to air intercooler and it can and will heatsoak. It takes significantly longer for water to cool back down. Get the biggest heat exchanger you can fit if you go with this setup. On the plus side w2a is relatively inexpensive but you will have to do a moderate amount of fabrication and have more parts that could potentially fail.

In the spring when I do my BT I will be doing a upgraded tmic with my current meth setup. I can eliminate heatsoak in a couple of seconds with meth. Getting rid of the stock tmic pressure drop is my main reason for upgrading, as well as better flow.

Meth is some badass stuff, definitely worth it imo.

"Don't be too hasty to create a margin of safety on detonation based on an unreliable device. Water Injection is best used when boost levels over 6 psi are desired but no intercooler is present. Do not allow a situation to exist where the water injector is used as an excuse for improper air/fuel ratios. All things considered, you would be far ahead never to have heard of a water injector."

Looks like it implys that the equipment is prone to failure, as is anything with a pump...wta for instance. Spraying 100% meth reduces my bats on average 40 degrees and bumps my octane.

Nothings perfect but when it comes to cooling boost temps, meth does it very well.

you also have to understand automotive technology as changed alot since when the book was made. ive personally talked to corky bell, you can also reach him since he owns a company called begi. i briefly asked him about maximum boost, and he said that although he stands by what he said at the time, alot as changed since then and technology has made some of his points obsolete.

in the last paragraph imo it sounds more like hes saying if you cant get enough fuel, dont band aid it by wmi injection.

however on the relevant topic he pretty much says.

"Water Injection is best used when boost levels over 6 psi are desired but no intercooler is present. "

my advice isnt to delete a intercooler completely, but if wmi is used, i would advise to run a smaller intercooler as you will have less of a pressure drop, and with wmi there really is no need for the extra air to air cooling.

oh and running a big intercooler requires modification of the crashbar. i had to cut mine at the flanges since those are what hold the core up. another food for thought
