I don't know if this helps but here it is installed unmodified and my car hasn't been to the dealership since I bought it in may of 08

my s3 takes such good pictures you can actually see a part number molded into the rubber on the right

To those who have installed the PMM and have put some miles on it...how many miles until the mount settled, and what difference did you observe when you first put it on to when it settled...is the difference noticeable?

Look back two posts Dood. They've already said its an oddity since gen 1's seem to use two styles of tmm. If yours looks like the one above you may be clear. I'd suggest being patient.

Yeah, we're at a bit of a standstill with the Gen1, you're pretty much going to have to look at your own mount which involves removing it. I wish I had better news but there doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason on what cars used what mount from Mazda.

ordered a tmm insert for my gen 1 last thursday. My gen 1 tmm bolt backed out and sheared a few months ago, and i replaced with a stock mount off of a 2012. So installing the insert should be a piece of cake.

have had the pmm installed for about 1000+ kms, it is for sure more settled in now. when I first had it on there I personally noticed a lot of engine noise in the cabin, now its quited down and much more tolerable in daily driving. is the difference noticable ? I think so, as it is with any mount once it breaks in.

also i feel if you run a catless downpipe the engine noise is slightly more amplified in the cabin.

Ok, so my OEM transmission mount looks like this (this is the factory mount which I replaced because I thought it was failing, actually it was the PMM):



So it looks pretty much like yours. Do you happen to have any picture of the bottom side of your mount? The top side seem to be the same, and the part number printed on your mount is exactly the same as mine: B37F-39-070 (incoming WIN?).
I think I'm going to bite the bullet and order this insert, if it doesn't fit then I'll just order a gen2 OEM TMM for it ($220 here).

The main issue with the Gen 1 is that there is (from what we can tell and what Mazda cann tell us) no rhyme or reason for which first gen car got which TMM so we have no way of telling customers if they can order or not. So even if you had the right TMM on a 1st gen to use our insert, you wouldn't be able to tell unless you pulled it out. But it will work with all of the 2nd gens.

It's still up in the air. We starting designing and protoyping one, but with what we envisioned, it may just be too expensive.

Hope this helps. I have a 2009 and my mount looks like the pic in this thread but more than just the Oem insert was jacked up. I got a pu tmm on here for less than $20 so I'm thinking about ordering the tmm insert and comparing it to my jbr tmm

Got the insert today and no, it did not fit on the gen1 TMM. The TMM bushing is wider on the gen1 it seems, the insert is shorter and not as wide as the space it is supposed to go into.

just installed mt PMM like 2 hours ago... holy jesus in heaven... its like the motor is sitting in the seat next to you its so stiff! cant wait for this mount to settle. there is 10 times the NVH my rx8 had with 80 duro mounts and an ingalls stiffy... that being said the way a rotary engine works is a million times smoother than a reciprocating engine so the difference in NVH is to be expected. i hope it relaxes a good bit.

as far as performance... wow, just wow. i live on a 2 mile gravel road full of ruts and the ms3 used to feel like it was going to fall apart going in and out of my property. now it kinda just... glides... its weird. i always assumed the suspension in this car was super sloppy but now i'm convinced it was 500lbs of motor sloshing around.

cornering is greatly improved as well feels like the car goes where its meant to and it doesn't seem like a suitcase full of bricks is sliding around under the hood anymore.

wheel hop... what wheel hop. torque steer... whats that? seriously the tires just dig in and she shits and gets. my left arm literally doesn't have anything to do under acceleration now...

all in all, beautiful piece of work and function is amazing! 8 out of 10 for me after only about 20 miles. now if the NVH dies down a good bit i would say its a full 10 of 10er in my book.

Yknow I hear people say torque steer is non existent with the installation of motor mounts but under hard accleration especially in the lower gears I will still get some violent torque steer, coming hard out of a turn comes to mind as I get full boost as I straighten out. And im fully mounted with jbr's stiffest.

well i figured id update everyone on my review. ive put around 2,000 miles on my motor mounts so far. the nvh has settled down quite a bit, so much in fact that no one that rides in my car notices it at all now.

everything is still just as firm and responsive. i am more than happy with with both the quality and performance of the mounts.

Sorry guys to revive this discussion in this thread, but I'm pretty set to use my CS tranny mount insert and my question is what other parts do I need to change to use the gen2 TMM on a gen1? Can anyone tell?

Ok, but the holes on the transmission are the same I wonder? Will the gen1 tripod fit on a gen1 transmission?

yes the gen 2 tripod will fit i am using a complete gen 2 tmm with a corksport insert on my gen 1 trans.

Did you reuse the tripod bolts or had to order new ones with the new tripod? The guys from the dealer told me the bolts are different on the gen2.

i reused the gen 1 tripod bolts. The only bolt you have to bring over from the gen 2 is the grade 10 center bolt. i didn't have to change out any batter box bracket just the top and bottom half of the tmm and the center bolt.

So just to be clear, we need:
- the actual TMM;
- the 10 grade central bolt that fixes the TMM to the transmission;
- the transmission case bracket/tripod.

Ok, I just paid for a 3MPS BL TMM and bracket/tripod, about $370 in total, so I hope it worth the hassle just for using the $35 CS TMM insert. But knowing CS for so many years now I'd say it's an incoming epic WIN.

Today I fitted the new Mazda 3 MPS BL (mazdaspeed3 gen2) TMM with the CS insert. The gen2 TMM alone is a lot better designed than the gen1. It also comes with a silicone insert itself and that's what the CS insert replaces.
The TMM fitting on the gear box bracket, that tripod, is also of a better design. It holds the mount better and prevents is from moving irregularly.

This TMM + the CS insert = pure WIN! There is NO, and I mean ABSOLUTELY NO increase in NVH over stock. I'm very picky about this stuff (NVH comfort in the car) and there is absolutely no change in NVH. The stiffness of the mounts naturally increases and the car behaves comparable with when I had a full set of urethane motor mounts installed on the car less the horrible NVH.

I wish CS did a similar insert for the PMM but because of how that oil filler bushing is designed that's not easy. Probably there are some viable solutions like what they find for the RMM: a beefier bushing to absorb the vibrations better than the current PMM does now..

Well, just installed a PMM in my gen2 (used, with 10k miles on the mount per previous owner) and have to say, coupled with a CPE S2 RMM.

1. suspension seems to have no play, steering feels more responsive.
2. Vibrations - on cold start, higher, once warm same as with just the CPE S2 mount
3. Noise - in cabin noise is substantially higher, I should have taken a DB meter to it pre/post (I have one) but it is strange that vibes seem the same and noise isn't.

If you are considering this mount and haven't already replaced the stock unit, don't think about it, do it, if you have another PMM installed already you likely will be just as well with it, but being able to move the stock mount by hand and this mount, well, no way in hell.
