New Product: Max Flow Pump Internals

I have all the right tools. To be perfectly honest, I'm not very confident about doing this. I usually have no issues installing this kind of stuff, but this fuel pump is unique for me. Working on the fuel line makes me nervous. I read the instructions very thoroughly and started the install but didn't get far (didn't even get to the part where you remove the stock fuel pump internals). Having a devil of a time getting to the pump (my hands feel ridiculously large). Basically I'm just afraid of screwing something up and rendering the car useless. I'm no mechanic and far from being an expert, so I'm strongly considering paying to have this installed.

I realize this is a rather lame issue, I just thought this would be a lot easier than it looks like it would be.

Making the room and getting the pump out is the biggest hurdle. Maybe someone near you can lend a hand.

Yup, that's where I'm at, getting to the stock pump.

I don't mind paying to have this installed. Better that than me completely botching it.

Take out the battery box, sri and tip. Extra steps but makes a huge difference in terms of room to work

I was thinking that my sri was in the way, I just don't have the skills to start taking this stuff out on my own. I have a general knowledge of this type of stuff, but I'm far from an expert.

It is not as hard as it appears to be. I felt the same way and just went for it and was surprised.
No idea what car you have, but on the ms6 there is no need to remove anything, hardest part I ran into was getting the hard fuel connection out of the way so that the pump comes out smoothly. after i did this the third time it took me all of 20 minutes.

2010 MS3. I already have the sri installed, which only made it more difficult.

Finding a shop is proving to be a challenge. Worst case scenario is I don't install it and therefore won't be getting that sweet sounding CBE . . . o well.

got these installed three weeks ago or so, here are some thoughts.

first off i love the packaging. some may say it's gimmicky but as someone in a marketing/sales field i think good product packaging cannot be overstated. the box they came in is definitely going to be reused.

install was easy though i was a little confused at first by the tappet being already installed on the spring retainer. i figured out eventually that it was fine but it does render the special tools included in the package useless. CS you guys might consider adding some info to your instructions about what to do if the tappet and retainer are already together so noobs like me don't get panicky and think something is going to go wrong.

overall i could tell the pieces are solid and have had no issues since getting them installed. fuel pressure is good across the board and definitely happy with my purchase.

You locked the tappet/retainer together after installing in the retaining nut, right? You didn't just slide it on after putting the spring on and call it good right?

The tappet and retainer were already locked together and seated so I slid them onto the piston as they were. They locked into place on the end of the piston. trust me i tried for like 30 minutes to get them apart so i could do it with the tool but they were locked in, did some reading and determined it was good to put them on the piston and carry on

Despite your instructions warning of the risks of fuel pressure and such...you guys really should add the instructions to pull the fuel pump fuse and run the car until it dies to relieve pressure (unless there's a good reason not to do this). It's terribly dangerous to have fuel coming out at that sort of pressure and spraying all over the car/garage/my face.

...Or you could just leave the car running and pull the spill valve connector, then shut it down.

Every fuel pump install I have done, whenever I pull fuse and run the car until it dies, I get sprayed with fuel. Whenever I forgot to pull the fuse, it never sprayed fuel. Not sure why...

I pulled the fuse and had almost no fuel leak at all, let alone spray. It sounds like it's dependent on a lot of variables

Protip: Let the car cool off. Even with < 50 psi in the rail, a hot engine will cause pressure to rise quickly.

I just expect fuel to blast everywhere, whether it does or not, and therefore I just wrap it in a towel as I loosen.... works pretty well to catch it all. Plus molotov cocktail afterward!

Yea I let my car sit for 4 hours with the hood up before I did anything, seemed to help a lot

Ordered mine a few days ago... I can't wait for the molotov coctail.
