Default Conversion. Kits

Admins, moderators please move this thread if in the wrong section.

Good morning everyone,

I had a few quick questions about some stuff that aftermarket companies provided for a few of my old cars, and would in turn like to find similar equipment or write ups. I’m here to learn what I can from members testimonials or failures while also being guided to what section is which and what verbiage is used since simple stuff doesn’t get me specifically what I’m looking for.

I see a lot of Mazdaspeed owners opt for the hpfp internals and up grade. Is their a reason surge tanks or custom multi pump systems with custom lines and rails aren’t used?

Power steering mooresport and chase bays had stainless power steering and aluminum reservoir adapters and lots. I’ve seen the threads where folks asked, and either for ignored or didn’t answer the questions of the other forum members. If anyone wants to know why I want to do anything like this, it’s because when I finally receive the car from shipping I’m doing full maintenance overhaul. Timing stuff, cooling system, belts, Brakes, fluids, plugs, coil packs if needed, and all the vacuum and boost lines, along with radiator hoses. Both for cosmetic and peace of mind knowing the maintenance will be fully up to date.

And while we’re on the cosmetic topic, are the items for the 2nd gen like engine cover ad cooling plates etc interchangeable with gen1? Can’t find anything about that other than like universal koozies for the reservoirs.

I’m the new guy here and understand what’s coming based on behaviors from other forums,so I already know the flames are coming and some one will post a google link without reading the site saying it took 20 seconds blah blah blah.

Not asking to find me kits, or anything, but the home page search brought me to every other project except what I’m looking for (power steering)

Well for one, the search function built into the site is ass. I search the forum by googling like this - "site:www.mazdaspeedforum.org/forum search topic"

Hit enter and enjoy better results.

We opt for HPFPs because they're pretty much an absolute must if youre surpassing stock boost pressure and I'm sure they cheaper and easier to install than custom multi pump systems and such. Unless you're doing a wild full send build, HPFPs will work more than fine.

And for the powersteering stuff, is there an off the shelf kit, or at least an adapter that would be installed on the pump it’s self to accept a -8 or -6 line as well as the feed line to the rack.

Yes. The HPFP is a cam-driven fuel pump that absolutely needs to be upgraded in order to use a high-flow downpipe and/or intake. The OEM HPFP internals can't keep up with fueling demands at that level. You can add a secondary aux-fuel rail, but that's a lot more expensive than the upgraded HPFP, which is good to about 375-400whp/wtq.

Most people don't bother with a lot of stainless steel lines and/or reservoirs, because the cars are being street-driven for the most part and the OEM parts are sufficient for that purpose.

Make sure that you replace the friction washers if the timing chain/VVT actuator are being touched at all. The plugs need to be gapped at between 0.024" and 0.027" per Mazda's revised service manual from 2010 (also necessary if you're running higher-than stock boost levels).

No. The Gen2 TMIC shroud does not fit the Gen1, and vice versa. The TMIC shrouds are sized differently and angled differently to accommodate the different hood shapes.
Also, I have no idea what you're talking about when you say, "koozies for the reservoirs."

Right I figured as much, but I also just didn’t understand how adding a second in tank would work

Ah the reason I want to figure it out is because in Okinawa, the air is soooo salty and the rain and it’s a tropical island. That’s a run on sentence. Anyway stuff Rots dries or rusts in 1-2 weeks.

Ah, in the subie world, and some other folks I’ve seen it around, put drink koozies aroun their clutch brake steering resevoirs to add flare usually like Perrin and project mu offer silly things and people eat it up because of the brand.

In other words I only find universal stuff for a gen 1. But I also don’t know every single site for Mazdaspeed yet.

Solid answer, that’s what I’m looking for, guidance.

Remember I cam from port injection and needed 2
Pumps and 2000 cc top feed to keep it in the right ratio.

I had more fuel than turbo I like having overhead and I already have a walbro 450 laying around. Figured I could do that 6port deal if I planned on making a ton of power later on during my ownership. 100% focusing on suspension brakes and maintenance on it.
