(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Not going to tell you what it but its damn near the same as diamonds on the rockwell scale. The Autotec units came back at 61 and 53, not very hard. There were damn near the same for the APR units. Now you may ask why is this important? Because of debris issues and pump lock up. A metal that is to soft will let debris get stuck on it. A material that is to hard will break when it gets hit by debris. You have to treat lower grade materials in order to get them hard and the stock units are super uber hard. I will have 500x magnification pictures up here very soon to show you guys what the differences are. We had to cut them apart to verify harness and what type of process that they used for the stockers so ours can be just as hard. Reason for this... how many stock pump failures have you heard of? Not one that I can think of. So, cut, polish, mag, and pictures with a camera at resolutions way beyond anything you or I can buy and what do you get? A $750 test that confirms what I have been saying this whole time to the machine shop... make them out of a harder material and these failures will not keep happening, now they listen. |

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Thats the idea. It should work in the VW pumps as well but I am still waiting for someone to send me one of there pumps for upgrading. I have an Audi pump sitting here and they look damn near the same internally, no testing has been done with that pump just yet. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score It's only a spill valve correction and a PCM update. The "free" CDFP mod should far excede anything Mazda will do for us. From what I understand, their actually slowing down the spill valve's reaction time to give the weak ass pump enough time to keep up with the injectors. The PCM reflash likely does what what it can to keep this from increasing fuel-lag, maybe by advancing a bit of timing. IMO, it's not worth my time when I can get a way better pump anyway. |

I highly doubt that they would take more fuel away. Higher flowing spill valve would make more sence the slowing it down. Either way I suspect that we will start hearing about the pros and cons of these soon enough.

Our pumps will be engineered to application specific. They will have the proper materials, treated, bigger spring (if needed), ti' spring retainer, chome locks and coated like the stockers are. These will more or less be built as if Mazda themselfs wanted this upgrade done to the high pressure pump. Last, price. We hope to have them on the market for under $300 and that will be with a lifetime warranty on the parts. Seems like saving a few hundred dollars for a better part might be worth it if you ask me.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Will do and thank you. The new batch of tool steel has been ordered and the retainers and locks are on the way. Last thing is getting the material treatment done and coated. We think that the material treatment can be done at the same time as the coatings, we shall see. This would drop the price another $20 to $30 per unit. That would be great. I will keep you guys updated as we continue to get these built and tested. So far it looks like we may have the proper clearance, treatment, and weight ready for these. Now its just time to start the testing of these units, more on that later. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Currently, I'm mostly interested in the free mod. I've got a rail on it's way the house, and I just want to know how much I can get away with opening up the orafices for the injectors and the rail inlet. Does it need to be machined smooth, or can I do it with a drill press? Should I make it a straight-through hole, or tapered one way or the other? Will it be alright with a stock cdfp backed by a Walbro, or should I wait until I upgrade the cdfp? Should I open it up just a little for now, and more when I upgrade the cdfp? |

| Not Ranked : 0 score That's why I'm asking for his advice. He obviously either has the answers, or knows exactly how to figure them out. All the things I mentioned are what he is testing anyway. I don't think increasing the size of the injector opennings is going to have any ill effect on the injectors output, but I'm thinking the restriction in the inlet might act as a wall to prevent back-pressure and keep the rail pressure a little steady so the rpr can do it's job, so that one might be touchy.

Next you will need a CDFP in order to get the most of of this. There are other areas that need to be cleaned up and taken care of as well. I will have more details on this as we move forward with the updates on the stock pump testing.
