maf sensor is wet and your filter is probably soaked. I say take sensor out and let it air dry. Your probably still sucking in water from the filter being soaked, so either change out to stock or let it dry or something. You should just use a short ram intake if your area experiences floods and heavy rain, to avoid hydrolock.

SRI ftw.

Our cars see no benefit from a CAI.

Yeah now I know WTF I keep saying over and over in my head should of got a shortram I had this happen to my civic Si but I could not get the Si restarted had to tow it home and I change the oil and it was good. Now I put the stock intake back on and about to change the oil. CEL is off I let the car run for a long time to dry it out. Do you guys think the car will be ok. It runs it is not stalling like it was before and sounds ok.

The main reason you were sucking in water is because of you wheel!!! When it spins its throwing the water through those little slits in your fender well cover!!! If you cover those holes up your cai should do fine. If it does still wet from other sources it will not make that much a difference to cause your car to do this.. Your choice or go sri....

When I ran a CAI, the 1st thing I did was cover up the slits in the wheel well to stop the water splashing in like Qtr said......

Thats interesting, I had the MS intake on mine with the splash guard, and I drove through some heavy ass rain/bigass puddles with no problems. (Florida summer thunderstorms...fun) Did you drive into a lake?

I guess this might just be me... but if I suspected that I had sucked up water through my intake, I would probably stop trying to start the car. Or at a minimum, not try to rev the piss out of it to keep it running.

Well I was thinking it would be ok because the turbo is hot as well as the motor so by the time it reaches either the water would have evaporated

Might want to check your plugs too and see if they're wet. If they are, you might want to compression check your motor.

well if he got water in there it would have dried by now. If they were still wet then his car would be idling poorly because the water would be drowning out the spark...

Once the air enters the turbo, it gets heated up. The difference in air temps, at the filter, is so small that there is no benefit.

I havent had both to give argue if it makes a difference or not but... based on the fact that colder air will be away from the engine, and the fact that air doesnt really heat up significantly going through the turbo unless ur really pushing it...I would say there IS a benefit of having a CAI... I live in arizona and, heat is insane, i want all the "cold" air i can take.

if you look at the temperature raise in boosted air temps copared to air intake temps, you only see a big increase in boosted air temps when ur boosting to over 10psi...maybe if ur pushing the car on the track u wont see a difference, but.. on a daily drive, wouldnt u?

There is a difference though, and if you know your compressor equations, you know that the temperature increase is not linear but exponential. Especially when you turn up the wick on the turbo, you start decreasing in efficiency and that gap becomes wider. Is it a billion degree gap, no, but easily a 10+ degree gap post turbo in most cases, and then some.

I would much rather be sucking in ambient air around the wheel well then suck in more turbulent air that has picked up heat from the engine bay. Plus I live in AZ, what the fuck is water.

the $40k in heroine he shipped in from cuba...

I hydro locked as hell, and in Vegas of all places. It doesnt rain much here but when it does it floods and worst of all, it could look like a perfectly fine day, then all of a sudden in 10 min it poors. Happened to me, came to an interesection that was completely flooded and couldnt go any other way. Tried to baby my way through it, but sucked a little water up. Car wouldn't start, but towed it home and gave it about 8 hours to dry out before I even attempted to turn it on. It turned on, held idle fine, and blew a little white smoke. Did compressions tests and everything turned out fine... I was lucky. Now I have an SRI so I dont have to worry Problem solved
