I've just crossed 60k and I think I'm gonna need toe VVT done here soon. It definitely sounds like I'm starting to hear it from a cold start. Or it could just be that I'm being super paranoid

Just traded in my 07 Civic Type R (UK) with 63k for an 07 MS3 with 51K today. Not sure how to feel..still sinking in, my 3yo daughter likes having her own door however

I have a 2007 MS3 and bought it at around 45k miles. It is now at 55k miles after 8 months of ownership.

2010 ms3 with 65K on the clock, put a 2871 on roughly 3-4k ago and don't DD the car.

I've probably posted earlier in the ten page thread. Can't remember.

Anyway, now at about 121,000 miles. '08 Mazdaspeed 3 GT with mods below, purchased new in Spring of '08. Almost all power mods were added in the first year. All mods are installed by me. I turn my own wrenches.

No real problems. Took in for the warranty claim on the VVT/timing chain check right before the expiration of the offer. They said it qualified and replaced both the VVT part and the timing chain. When I went to pick it up, it was making the same noise! Stupid dealer did not know WTF it was doing, or just wanted to soak Mazda for an unneeded warranty claim.

Turned out to be the accessory belt tensioner pully, which I fixed myself. Got a new VVT part and timing chain I did not even need.

Only other part failure was that the turbo eventually developed excess shaft play earlier this year at about 105,000 and actually broke a small piece off of one of the compressor side vanes when it struck the housing Miraculously, the little piece got sucked through the intake and out of the exhaust without any damage! I'm a luck fuck.

I had the turbo rebuilt including a new CHRA and am still rolling strong.

2008.5 currently at 88k miles.
No turbo shaft play when I first bought the car at 67k miles in Oct 2014

Compression is a bit low but consistent at 150 psi (might be a wonky compression tester)

VVT and timing belt replaced at 69K under warranty

so far running pretty strong despite the 5 previous owners and I'm positive it's been heavily modded before

sorry for derailing this thread a bit but, I was wondering when did you realize that the there was excessive play in your turbo?
Do you pull your inlet and check the play every once in a while or did you felt a (significant?) lost in power?

Also how much did it cost to get your turbo rebuilt?

The turbo started making a whining sound at light throttle boost onset. It was probably making the noise at higher throttle settings, but exhaust noise was probably masking it. When I pulled the TIP the shaft play was so bad that the compressor vanes were scraping the housing! One vane had slightly chipped! It never smoked. It did not seem to have lost much power.

Rebuild was done by Works Turbo (turborepair.com) in Alabama. They charge $350 for basic rebuild. I had to completely replace the CHRA with a new one, which was $150 more, if I recall.

2013 MS3 at around 54.5k miles. CS intake + tip were installed at around 20k miles. First time a tune was flashed into my car was at around 45k miles. So far it has been running well *crosses fingers*

Is the VVT issue only prevalent with first gens?

probrably gonna hit 150K today on my speed 6 engine & turbo is still original, Mods in sig...minus most recent addition of exhaust most mods have been on the car since about 80,000 miles....freektuned OTS+ around 120k

167,000 and still climbing. Bought it in 2010 with 24,000 miles on it. I beat on this car daily, and she has been rock-solid!! You could also say she's seen the strip a "few" times. lol

Compression is still within 1% of perfect factory spec.

I changed my transmission fluid at 111k miles and it looked clean and clear. It was still shifting great and I only changed it because; that's a lot of miles.

I also waited until about 105k miles before I changed coolant. That also looked really good for 100k.

The next overdo maintenance item is my first valve cleaning.

1st turbo blew out 36k

Ringlands on 1st @105k all 4

Brand new stocker +bnr @27psi 405ish +track days = holy block @ 125k (I thought I was going to take it easy LOL.

08 MS# new with MSCAI and MSCBE, 128K,need to clean EGR for the second time, replaced both lower control arms, RMM and a O2 sensor, still get 27-30 miles per gallon and runs in mid 13's. I am going thru 1/2 qt. synthetic every 5K miles and if the car idols for very long it will blow out a little oil smoke.

Have 117,956 on my 2006 Speed6. Have had the car since January of 2014. Original motor, second k04, and been on 50/50 E85 for 15,000 miles now. Got the car with 61,000 on the dial. 56,000 miles in 2 years FTW
