With the factory downpipe and test pipe you're at the limit. Just don't go too crazy with the boost in the mid range.

So I just ordered my GT3071R turbo and I currently have cobbs SF intake. I need to purchase a TIP to fit the new turbo and I was gonna go with the Cp-e nviscid 4" one. Im assuming the wont fit and I'll have to get a bigger intake also, correct?

Do you know if the smaller battery tray is absolutely necessary for it to fit?

Recently intalled a Cobb Short Ram Intake on our '09 Speed 3 and am very impressed! Seat of the pants power improvement and the sound is amazing. One of the best sounding intakes I've ever seen. +1 for Cobb.

@Raider;
Perhaps we can add a simply DIY alternative to ATP.

I used Spectre as it's easily available and cheap

I bought the following Spectre parts from Amazon for a 3" TIP

http://amzn.com/w/3AG6PWZVU12J6

total cost ~73$

Here's a wish list for a 2.5-3" SRI from Amazon as well

http://amzn.com/w/1WZ4RYZQ9R8GE

total cost ~ 78$

Add the HTP 3" TIP for 125 bucks FTW

http://www.hitunedperformance.com/ht...nlet-polished/

I also added the plastic honeycomb to my intake

http://www.saxonpc.com/100mm-cells-for-100.html

The 1/8 Cell plastic 6:1 ratio
75mm.

this is optional as some have had positive results while other have ran sans without issue

Would the intake box for the ms3 fit the cobb sri in the ms6? My IAT temps are super high and annoying here in FL.

Will not fit, but Corksport makes a box that fits the MS6 and if I remember correctly is minimal modification needed to make the COBB SRI work with it, I'll let someone else chime in

Default 2015 Price Update

Intake Kits and Battery Trays

Intake Kits: SRI, TIP, CAI
Battery Trays to accommodate wide Intake Kits

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Intake Kits: SRI, TIP, CAI

CAI

Cold air is denser than hot air, and will ultimately have more power producing potential. Cold air induction (CAI) provides colder air than SRI / TIPs and can provide 12% more power and torque, but experiences pressure drops associated with the longer tubes used and are prone to easily hydro-locking in deep puddles (MSF wiki). Therefore, SRI / TIPs with air-box are the preferred option. Use a filter cover (CP-E, Outerwears. AMSoil) and / or splash shield (CP-E, Sure) if you are concerned about rain and water droplets, but they will not prevent hydro-lock if your intake is submerged.

SRI / TIP

Points to consider when improving the intake airflow are the future needs, such as BT for the K04 will most likely fail at some point. Although some members progress through different BTs, perhaps choosing a three inch intake initially will prevent having to replace it again later. The only problem with this course of action is that a MAF calibration must be done, which requires an ECU re-flash. See the “Larger than stock MAF housing” calculation below installation time in this section.

TIPs can flow 14% more, but are usually limited by the SRI. The main advantages to TIPs are the reduction of backwash turbulences away from the MAF housing from the blow-by valve and PCV.

However, SRI / TIPs allow the turbo to spike more easily. (Cobb) Note that with no other changes, tilting the MAF more than the OEM 15 degrees causes over fuelling with the ECU removing fuel through large negative LTFT and you exceed your previous g/s readings during WOT. MAF recalibration is strongly recommended.

Larger than stock MAF housing offers larger cross section for more airflow, but has less cooling to the MAF resistors due to the decreased air velocity. In order to develop a scalar for a larger than stock intake diameter, you must take the (New MAF Cross-Sectional Area) and divide (/) it by the (Stock MAF Cross Sectional Area), which is technically pi * radius squared (Djuosnteisn), but you can actually just take the new diameter squared / old diameter squared (ms3blackmica). Say you decide to upgrade to a 3" intake (76.2mm). The stock MAF housing is 66.5mm diameter (2.61811").

(76.2^2) / (66.5^2) = 1.313

Take 1.313 and multiply it by the entire MAF curve. Now you are ready to start your MAF Calibration. This is only an example for a 3" intake. (ms3blackmica)

MS6 airbox link gets 404.

Link to "MS3 for Cobb SRI" works, note this is meant for gen1 not sure if it fits on gen2. It's in the 2007-2009 section on CS, and CS said they weren't going to make a gen2 version. ( Cold air box for SRI comparison logs...finally! )

Link for "CorkSport Airbox MS3 Gen2" goes to a box for SkyActiv 2012-2013 models. I think this should be:

Thanks - I am still criss-crossing the USA and this current link is actually slower than at home. I should get to this in about a month's time.

Funny that Cobb changed their URL. Usually it is CorkSport that is the moving target.

For marketing reasons, if Cobb’s SRI was 3”, they would have made sure that we knew. They neatly covered themselves by stating that MAF calibration may be required. Of course it is required. Due to the physical nature of a MAF (two suspended wires), I have found that just tilting the MAF slightly more or less throws out the calibration somewhat. Just the manufacturing variances leads me to recommend getting the Cobb AP first to be able to calibrate the MAF and for more power followed by a 3” SRI / TIP to not limit future BT choices. To answer your question, Cobb’s SRI is probably around 68mm (2.677”), therefore, smaller.

So, I'm kinda new to the forums so please don't rip my head off. But I just installed a k&n intake on my 2nd gen speed3 with the OEM TIP. Just wondering if the COBB TIP will fit this intake directly or if there is another TIP that will fit it.

Installing internals + AP this weekend, should I go with the HTP or JBR aluminum 3.0" intake system? Will be getting a tune.

No plans for a new turbo in the next 6 months but might snag a GTX2867R later this year, so I was leaning towards the JBR aluminum to be able to change out the coupler later. Searching a bit and a lot of the preference to the HTP intakes seems to be from over a year ago, and Jamie has great customer service so lookin' for some advice.
JBR likes this.

I am going the same route here... Ordering my HPFP Internals, and APV3 this weekend. I'm really looking into the JBR 3" Alum Full intake. I will not be modifying the car any further than this. I have RMM already installed. Last mod is Springs and Shocks, this summer sometime.

JBR- Any other things I need to be aware of before I make the purchase? Making sure the New intake replaces the stock TIP and Intake box?

Nothing more is needed. Our TRU 3" intake includes everything you need, TIP and MAF too. They're on sale as well and shipping is included.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,

Updated my version THE OFFICIAL INTAKE THREAD!!

CorkSport Air Box for MS6 is no longer available; removed “available from” link.

CorkSport Air Box for Cobb's SRI is for Gen1 only; updated titles appropriately to reflect. (This is what confused me, the CS for Cobb and “yes” jet-lag affected me more this trip for some reason.)

Replaced Gen2 image with non-Skyactiv box

Thanks @aackthpt; Is the OP ready to update now?

I also note that you haven't covered a couple of ECU relocation solutions in the battery tray section.

One is
CorkSport 2010-2013 Mazdaspeed 3 ECU Relocation Battery Box

The second isn't really a battery tray per se but it does the same thing as the rest of these, moving the ECU.
Mazdaspeed 3 07'-13' ECU Relocation Bracket - Trackmasters

I presume you're looking for only commercial bolt-on solutions. There have been a number of DIYs on this, including custom bracketry (notably a few from Enki), super velcro (mushroom style), 3M VHB tape.

Are you kidding? With my weak currency, I am always looking for good value. Please provide the links and I will update the stub.

I have an example of a DIY intake but I don't provide one. The post is under the hardparts section and should probably be linked as an example only (considering my EFR setup is quite different from the usual setup).

I was talking about ECU relocation solutions, not necessarily DIY intake stuff (though there is one of those presented in OP). The OP covers ECU relocation to allow the bigger intakes as well as intakes - it is a fair bit down. You did a lot of work with this, with the bracketry mounting the ECU upside down over the battery for example, although a later thread looked like you wound up with something similar to JBR's 51R battery box.

ECU relocation is something that has been harder to wrap my head around as a relative n00b looking at intakes. Even after reading instructions and tons of threads there are still unanswered questions, things like to remove the white thing on the wiring harness do you have to cut it or does it somehow unclip or something? Can it be put back on? In relocating the ECU are we removing armoring from the wiring and therefore exposing ourselves to more risk of some sort of problem/failure? Among other things.

My local NATOR guys seem to generally favor the solution of using double sided sticky tape to mount the ECU on top of the battery box or fuse box or something, mostly (as far as I can tell) because it's nearly free. I'm not sure of the details but I imagine there is something here already on how to do it. I'll inquire and post here if I find something useful.

It unclips. Once the battery box is out of the way, it should become fairly obvious. Double sided tape should work pretty good, just keep in mind you need to check it now and then to make sure the tape isn't dying a heat related death and coming apart.

An ecu flying around the engine bay is bad news.

Hello there. I'm a noob and hope I'm not thread-jacking but this is the intake thread I found. I just picked up an 08 ms3. I cannot for the life of me tell what intake system I have. Without knowing what I have I cannot determine if it's ok or if I should get something different. I noticed the the red hose (pictured) comes out differently than most of the others I have seen. I hope you guys can help me make sense of it. I will attempt to put photos below (crossing my fingers). Thank you in advance.

Thank you Blue Speed. I wasn't sure. I thought I remember issues with those?

Also, now I know I am threadjacking, last night I took our my TB and cleaned the crap out of it. Today my car is supper sluggish, hesitating, as if its on limp mode. I am worried that I messed up something opening the butterfly. Could someone kindly tell me how I can "reset" or "calibrate" it? I am worried I pushed the butterfly too far closed it too far or messed up it's alignment. I'm also getting a P0234 overboost condition. Any other ideas? I'm all ears :/
