Default Pt Performance Driverside Motor Mount Bushings Failure

Pictures are of a mount with less than 200 miles on it. Everything was torqued to spec and still tight. It wasn't obvious what the loud clunking sound was from until the mount itself was removed. Called pt performance yesterday afternoon, still waiting for a response.

We had that problem with the AWR trans mount for the 6. AWR wound up send out revised bushings and sleeves. The new sleeve had a washer welded to the end, and one end of the bushing was made thinner to compensate that. Then they sent washers to fit in between the two bushings to fill the void between them. This revision kept the bushing from walking it's way out. Mine is still fine, and that was a few oil changes ago. I promise this will happen to all the trans mounts out there if they don't revise this way.

All this talk about r&d and most of the things go to shit and break. Seriously, how can something like this happen if this mount was designed and tested for months? Is it all of them that are being redesigned now or just the ones that break and potentially drop the motor? What actually happens when the mount fails and your motor drops...will ptp pay for it?

Do you have any pics of the bushing right after the install? Was the bushing pinched, or did anything appear to be misaligned? 200 miles is well before break-in, so something must have been wrong.

If others are beyond 200 miles, and this is the only one, then it may be too early to worry.

to people who said the motor will drop....

i don't believe the motor will drop i think if all of these have this issue the motor will not drop out it will just hop around a bit, you have 1/2 inch of clearence all around the bushing to where the sleeve goes in, if the bushing explodes and it eats it all the way out your still not going to break the thick steel plating around where the bushing was pressed into and your not gonna break the welds, you will have a thumping noise pull it out put a new one in simple as that, i had to grind down my sleeve on my perticular mount to make it fit nice and snug as it didn't fit correctly, i had one of the first ones and was one of the first ones installed running i have 5k on the mount now and have not had an issue, like i said this is the only mount i havn't broken lol. I already put my car up on the rack and checked it and it looks ship shape, i drive the fuck out of my car always have always will if something breaks thats just kinda how it goes i have no issue with it, if i did i wouldn't have modified the car at all.

People should stop all jumping to conclusions like OMG THIS IS GONNA HAPPEN, no it might not, and yes it might, you don't know but to automatically jump in someones shit and say that all this r&d and everything and it still failed...could it be a machine shop issue? could it be a bad run of poly or whatever is used in the mount, you don't know how do you know its johns fault? how do you know its the exact same supplier the machine shop is using when they buy the stuff in bulk compared to the prototype mounts, you don't, jumping to conclusions give everyone a bad rep, and with both darkstar and PTP who have had mounts fail in this fashion they are both taking care of it, if you have an issue i have no doubts in my mind that it will be taken care of both companies are stand up people and do stand behind thier products, so take this thread with a grain of salt, there is a possiblity that it could have been installed wrong you don't know that only the OP does, and no one will admit to f'ing up an install. not saying you did OP just saying a coulda shoulda woulda situation.

I think those with this type of mount are in a position that would dictate some level of concern. I don't think downplaying the possibility that they could end up with a rather disastrous outcome because you don't think the welds or sleeve will break is really reasonable on your part. The bushing was not suppose to break either. The best thing right now is probably full disclosure from the vendor and a very precise action plan with exact dates so no one is left guessing or getting frustrated, that is assuming this issue is possibly wide spread.

its a bushing as i said could have been a bad batch from the supplier...shit like thats bought in bulk, poured and set done. As i said could have been an error on install, maybe it was bad out of the box, and his was too wide as well, and the bushing was pinched i don't know i didn't install his i know my personal mount is fine with 5 thousand hard miles put on it, and i modified mine before install becuase i didn't like how it was sliding on, when the mount is put on the motor has to move back to make it line up when the trans gets jacked back up chance he didn't do that and it cut the end of the bushing...theres so many variables here to say automatically its the mounts fault, i would have gotten in touch with john first to see what was going on send him the pictures then asked if it was ok, before posting it publically and creating wide spread concern. Thats the same thing i did when i had a few Avid Racing mounts fail when they first came out, taken care of, they know the problem and the ones that did have the problem and didn't have every tom, dick and harry, coming out of the woodwork that purchased one wanting a new one because of the unlikley case that if failed. thats my input take it for what it is.

As respectfully as possible I would like to communicate to you that your comments are very opinionated based off of your past experience yet this thread has some pretty interesting comments from the vendor himself that indicates there is in fact a design defect here. Yes, these things will happen and I'm simply keeping my fingers crossed that the community might get a little more information because His comment is a little vague.. it's telling enough if you take a moment to look at it though.

The magic word here is revised, which means one of two things. A poor choice in words thus a good reason to give full disclosure.

Or the issue had been caught and possibly the vendor was already privy to he potential of the mount failing. Again, a good reason to go ahead and give everyone in the community full disclosure.

Of course, that is my opinion on giving full disclosure

I think the manufacturers personal sub-forum is a perfectly appropriate place to post about a manufacturing or design defect with a product purchased.

Yes it may be an isolated incident (which is why I called a full business day before and pm'd them before posting) but this is also a community, and I would hate for somone to have a more serious issue because I didn't say anything when I knew of a potential issue.

Guys, a full recal on the mounts goes into effect today. I will be making a post on this here shortly.

As far as what we will cover in the event of a mount failure. We will cover the same that Mazda covers when there mount fails... nothing if you have mods on your car and everything if you stock.

We will be recalling and replacing every mount we have sold or is on the market. I just checked the mount in my car and its still new and we have concerns that there is another problem that is causing this, this is why we have decided to recall the mount. I will explain more of that in the new thread.

Thread closed with the basis that the customer(s) are going to be taken care of.
