Default What is this Speed 3 worth?

Curious what you guys think this 08 Mazdaspeed 3 is worth.

its a red 08 Mazdaspeed 3 with only 58,000 miles. back in 2010 it was flooded (to what extent, idk) but it received a salvage title because of it. It is said to be in great condition and he would trust it to drive anywhere. Exterior looks really good I don't see any flaws to be honest.

Thinking about picking one of these cars up as a daily driver and just dont want to open a can of worms...

Thanks in advance!

I'll be honest, that situation sounds like a bad time. If you or the owner can't determine the extent of the damage, that's pretty much where I walk away. Water damage is not something I really want to mess with and having no idea on the extent of that damage only makes it worse.

Also, 58k miles on a 9 year old car? That's roughly 6400 miles a year. What was the car being used for? Has it been sitting because of damage? Even if this person drove only 20 miles a day, you'd still be way over 58k miles. Keep in mind that low mileage does not always equate to a unicorn and having a car sit for a long period of time, especially if it has damage already, can actually be in worse shape than a car with 100k miles on it. This sounds like too many question marks on an already salvaged title. Move on.

Good luck! I still think its not worth it but no harm in looking I suppose. The brief history you gave in the OP just makes it seem there are a ton of question marks. This class of car is already at high risk for being abused and sold when issues seem imminent so when you factor in undisclosed water damage, low miles that could possibly be from sitting due to damage and the salvage title, it seems like you're asking for more of a headache than you want. Hope it works out though!

Eh, not necessarily. I'm willing to pass on it due to my risk aversion on used 4 banger turbos as a DD. I always assume the worst until I can see otherwise. It's possible the car isn't nearly as bad as I make it sound and may actually be a decent deal if the OP is willing to put some time in to fix it. The brief description just doesn't give enough information which is why I just say "ehh, pass". If the OP is looking for a DD, there are probably better options at face value.

Well had to pass on it. Engine was filthy, couldn't find the engine vin # so could have been a junkyard motor? Idk. Airbag light was on for whatever reason. Missing certain clips throughout the engine bay. Also, car was super super sluggish. I just sold a LSJ Cobalt that felt way quicker than that. So something had to be up.. Other than that the exterior and interior were in pretty good shape. He was asking $5k. Said he'd have done $4500 but I didn't wanna be in at more than $4k so had to walk.

Oh well.

I've never found a vin on one of these motors.

I'd have topped out around 1/4 of non salvage book value on a flood car.
