Ok, most across-border PO boxes/receiving services charge a nominal fee, I pay $5 a package, regardless of the package/item cost, and any item u have shipped to Canada with a value of $10 or less declared you pay nothing, so there's no need to ship everything to the US, just big ticket items from legit companies who aren't willing to fudge the international shipping customs form (which I wouldn't ask of any of the good companies here on MSF). It's not just taxes/brokerage that gets u shipping into Canada, it's the shipping fees, which can be 3-6x as much on average.

First step, throw away all of the shipping info from the boxes, and try to reduce the number of boxes (debox, combine items) to as little as possible, if there's paper instructions/warranty sheets that you want, ship them to yourself via reg mail into Canada. You want as little evidence as possible that makes it easy to identify the parts (ie: google searching to find out retail value, CBSA officers are pretty good at that shit) or makes it obvious that the parts are brand new. You can always scuff/dirty shit up a bit, take off company applied stickers, etc.

If you're asked what you have to declare just tell them you have roughly $200 bucks worth of used auto parts. It's better not to be in an obviously expensively modded out car for this. Anything under $200 they usually don't hassle or charge you anything for, a little more if you've spent more than 1 day in the US, a little more if a week, etc..



If you do it right, the MOST you will EVER pay is your provincial sales taxes (ie: in BC it's 12% total, it differs slightly province to province), unless a lot of your parts are made outside of the USA or Mexico and they can prove that they are new, you may need to pay duty. Actually duty is rare though, usually when people say they had to pay duty at the border they're talking about provincial taxes.



If you ship to Canada from the US, especially with UPS, you ARE going to pay taxes on the entire amount that is declared on the international shipping invoice, plus up to about $90-100 in UPS (Fedex as well) in brokerage fees. You can get around brokerage fees by self brokering, but you need to be near a CBSA (Canadian Border Service Agency) and a UPS (or Fedex) international shipping depot to make it easy/fast enough to be worth your time, as you need to grab the paperwork from the UPS/Fedex depot, drive it over to the CBSA office, pay the provincial taxes, then go back to the UPS depot and pick up your item after providing them with the proof you paid the taxes. Brokerage fees are a big scam.

I hope this helps, PM me if you are unclear on anything. Just remember, most people don't know how much a motor mount can cost for performance applications, or a RSB, etc., especially if you tell them it's used.


Oh yeah, make sure there are no easily accessible texts/emails etc on yer phone or laptop about purchasing a bunch of new parts... Lots of people get screwed by the info the leave easily acessable on their personal devices..

They are as thorough as they feel like being depending on how they perceive you and depending on their mood.

The checking your phone/personal device things is a very very low chance event, as is actually searching your car (they won't rip it apart unless they have solid suspicion of ILLEGAL contraband in the car).

I only mentioned the above because if you happen to pull up to the border crossing with bloodshot eyes, a bad attitude, smelling of pot, yer gonna have a bad time.


If you're chill, friendly but not over-eager to please, and don't have a bunch of obviously brand new shit in your backseats don't worry about it.


Just say you bought the parts from a buddy you know from a forum (or from craigslist, whatever), just don't stress over it, the max you're going to pay is provincial tax on the actual value of the parts.


I predict you roll up, they ask whacha been doing (picking up some used parts), where you did it (insert location), what you're bringing back (no need to be specific, used car parts is good enough), and the value (just say 'roughly $150-175') and the CBSA will probably just tell you to have a good day and you're done.


I only went into that much detail to include the full spectrum of possibilities for buying/receiving/shipping parts while living in Canada and buying from the US.

So relax, don't worry about it, follow the few simple steps and don't act a fool, go across like you've been doing it once a month for the last couple years.. GL, let us know how it goes.

How about battery trays? Just upgraded turbos and stock battery doesn't fit with 3.5" intake anymore...
