Are longer spacers and studs all that's needed to fit these to the Mazda5 rear rotors?

How about 12" 2pc rotor for the back with proper mounting brackets for the 4piston caliper and still retain the oe handbrake

If Edge is getting the kits who I think they are, I was involved with doing the measuring, and initial install, etc. With the 4 piston Powerlite caliper, you can get a 3/8" ID x 1/2" OD x 1/2" Tall spacer to work with the Mazda 5 12" rear rotor.

Now as far as he e brake, I strongly suggest that anyone who does this kit utilize the transmission to help hold the car, especially on a hill or driveway. These calipers utilize 2 mechanical arms that just pull the pads against the rotor. These calipers were designed and used on open wheel cars in Australia. That's why they are not even in the Wilwood USA catalog.

If you search the Gen 2 pic thread, I have some posted.

Maybe Edge can get the right sized mounting bracket for use with the Mazda 5 rotors? I would LOVE to have that! JP@edgeautosport.com; EdgeAutosport.com;

It would cost an individual person less money to just buy the 4 longer socket head bolts and 4 aluminum spacers as opposed to trying to machine new brackets. You have to remember that Wilwood states 11" as being the largest diameter rotor this caliper can be used on. So I don't even know if the person producing the kits would even want to machine brackets with the 12" Mazda 5 rotor in mind. It is something I just did to verify. I informed the person that did the machine work that the calipers did fit, but that is the last of us speaking about it.

The only good thing that came of that is the fact that the 2 piece rotors I had made were in fact 12" for the rear.

I'd think the spacers would have to be a high grade aluminum as would the bolts need to be high grade.. Now i'm wondering though, if upgraded calipers with 12" rotors would move the brake bias too much to the rear?

All the hardware I purchased was high grade. Anyone that has access to Grainger, Fastenal, or McMaster will be ok. I saw no difference in the brake bias with the 11.9" rotor in the rear.

One thing to note to Edge, if you have a rear kit in your hands now, measure the rear brake line that is in there. The original size was 16" which was too tight. I changed over to 18" lines and let him know. So you should have 18" brake lines for the rear.

did you buy the spacers through one of these companies also? Do you have part #'s you can throw out for us?

Got the socket heads through Fastenal. Actually ordered the spacers from a manufacturer of nothing but aluminum spacers as I was not happy with what I found at the above listed places.

Another side note to throw out there to you guys. The calipers in the rear over a stock Mazdaspeed 3 style rotor (stock, DBA, etc) may create a low speed hum. When I say low speed I mean when the car just about comes to a complete stop. I cannot tell you how long that may/will last for. What it is is the brake pad rubbing off the colored finish that is on the hats of the rotors, and sometimes a little at the very inside edge of the rotor. You have one of two options either deal with it until the finish is rubbed off and down to just rotor face or do what I did and put a 3/8" washer which kicked the caliper back 1/16" and eliminated the him (squeak may actually be a better reference name).

This stuff is coming back to me slowly. Remember it's been over a year for me when I did all this.

I searched and can't find your pics.. link?

Jason
Do you remember company name and/or material specs that you would recommend?

Here is a pic of the rear with the stock size Mazdaspeed 3 DBA 4000 series rotors. If you look closely at the inside edge of the rotor you will see that gold finish that I was talking about causing the low speed squeak. Like I said I shimmed it by 1/16" of an inch and that rectified that.

The only question that I have will these fit behind stock 08 wheels or will spacers be needed. I'm in need of brakes very soon and these would be clutch

You will need 5mm spacers in order for the stock 08 wheels to clear the wilwood calipers.

Is that for any of the kits including the OEM and two piece rotor options?

The 2 piece rotor assembly is actually 5.8 pounds LESS than the factory rotor PER ROTOR. That's a huge rotational mass weight savings. We haven't done a ton of brake comparisons so maybe I shouldn't be as surprised but I'll say I was definitely pleased with this.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Thank you!

Looks like I did say the correct kits but that is what it's limited to for MS6 currently. We'll let you know on the caliper kits soon.
Edge: So does this MS6 4 piston BBK come with the LW 2-piece rotors?

Yes thats going to be for all the kits because the caliper dimensions are all the same width wise.

Here is a pic from when I did the install last year of the front with stock style rotors. As you can see because the stock hat is so small it looks different compared to when you have a 2 piece rotor design with a larger hat. There is still a minimum of 2" brake annulus.

new topic for this thread,

How's the fitment for 17" wheels? I understand the whole width thing but that's irrelevant at this point; will the 6pot stock rotor calipers fit inside 17" wheels? I'm doubtful that the 13" setup will fit (maybe, still good info to have) but will the calipers fit? Same question for the rears, but these really shouldn't be an issue

The 6pot BBK should fit with 17" wheels no problem. They are just barely to big for the 16" wheels we have our slicks on...

That looks like you have at least 1" of unswept area on the rotor huh? The rusty color...

Yea there is about 3/4". That is what I referring to about the small hat size of the stock style rotor compared to a larger hat on a 2 piece design. So it makes the rotor look like its less "eaten up" by the caliper. But like I said my brake annulus is still at least 2".

Thanks for posting, are these the 4 or 6pots? Can't quite make it out in the image unfortunately.

I was all over the Corksport 4 pistons, but these at $275 less expensive makes an extremely compelling argument.

That and the fact that Wilwood has been making brakes for a long long time and CS is just jumping into it... I don't doubt the CS quality, but the Wilwood's have a pedigree...

FYI - got my MS3 Rear BBK yesterday!

Is it gonna look lame having the StopTech logo on the front and the Wilwood logo on the rear?

I'm debating on spraying over the Wilwood logo so the calipers are all black.
Bumpin' for opinions...

Honestly it all depends on you. Only suggestion I might make to you is to go to a vinyl shop and just use black vinyl to cover the rear Wilwood logo. That way if you ever go to resell them you can just peel the vinyl off. Can't just peel spray paint off.
