Default dead battery/immobilzer problem

Hi there,

Lately it's been extra cold here in CT (0-20ish) and my car has had some rough starts (cranking very slowly but starting) some mornings. This morning the car cranked a few times and then nothing. I tried it again and nothing, and then it wouldn't even crank. Normally the engine start/stop button just needs to be pressed once to turn the car off but I had to try it a few times to get the car to turn off - during this time the interior lights were flashing and there was a clicking sound coming from the dash. I have absolutely no idea what that means, if anything.

I had to go to work and was fortunately able to get a ride from a friend but upon getting home and jumping the car, still no dice. The dash lit up like it normally does when the ignition is in accessory mode but the CEL flashed a few times. I checked the codes and theres one for PCM and one for P1260. I cleared the codes and jumped the car. All the electronics light up (tech package so nav works, radio etc) but the engine will not start.

I have two smart keys and while they will unlock and lock the car, neither key works to start the car. Both have fresh batteries.

Is this something I can diagnose/repair myself or is there a trip to the dealership in my future? Car is out of warranty.

Thanks in advance.

my guess is your battery is dead.

our 2011 speed 3 has the same symptoms.. drove it 40 miles, did some work, got back in, backed up, stalled it and now no start.. red key thing on the dash when I depress the clutch.. just replaced batteries in both remotes..

charging the car battery now overnight.. tomorrow it will start or go to the dealer.

Did dealer find a fix? I have the same symptoms after letting the car sit for a week. Same codes and jumping yields no results

Hey, as it turned out the battery was "dead flat" and needed to be replaced, as in it could no longer hold enough of a charge to start the car. AAA replaced the battery and the car started right up. I also didn't have any more rough starts so my guess is that the battery was in bad shape for a while.

Hope this helps!
